Default Dying your hair wacky colours - your experiences with fanbase reaction?

So I'm thinking about dying my usual red / brunette hair (I've been drifting from these two for a while)... to blue and violet..

It's something I've been wanting to do for a while now, but I'm scared that my fanbase will react badly to this and I'll lose all my regs and basically be hated and not make as much money...

My niche is hairy, so I get a lot of "natural"-loving guys come see me and compliment me for being so natural. But I feel like having wacky hair and brown pubes will be a bad combination that won't work in my $$$$ favor.. but who am I to say? I've no idea!

Do you girls have any experience with this kind of thing?

Did dying your hair wacky shades negatively affect your business? Maybe it actually impacted it for the better? Or - not much of a difference?

I'd love to know before I go ahead and take the plunge.

My hair has always been a wacky colour so I won't be much help with this one.

But I do feel your pain though. My fanbase is obsessive about my current haircut and hair colour and to tell the complete truth -- I kind of resent the fact that I am stuck with this look or I'll lose money.

maybe get a wig with your natural hair color to wear? Then some night you can premiere your wacky hair, and tell everyone that it's a wig and see what the reaction is?

Can you try those colored loose clip-ins or temp weaves? I think bolder colors look great, on cam, personally. It provides a more stark contrast. I feel like my already very dark brown hair gets completely lost in the frame when I dye it jet blue/black. Like, I have to use a very high gloss product to show off the body and curls. It just feels so flat to me but I've tried going reddish and I hate the maintenance of coloring my hair. It looks awful as it grows out, too. I'm envious of girls who can pull off blues and greens and such.

They LOVE change! I go from pink to purple, brown, blonde, long and short. I can tell when its time to switch up. My money will start getting "boring'' as soon as I change they are back to for more. They love it, they also know its part of my personality.

Haha! I love this idea!! XD

Tempting - I am also very encouraged by what you said. I think maybe it might keep things "fresh".

If I do this, I'll be going the bleach + 'manic panic' dye route, which would mean frequent upkeep, therefore more colours to choose from when the old ones wash out... I really love the idea of constantly updating my appearance, and of course I could go back to brunette or red when I wanted.. *excited*

Just make sure you do the coconut oil in your hair for several hours or overnight in your hair before doing the bleach. I was able to bleach my hair three days in a row because of this without it making me bald. Plus, I grabbed the joico protein treatment knock off from Sally's, and Aussie's Three minute miracle.

So I would: Coconut oil overnight, bleach in the morning. Wash out and immediately put in the joico, wait 5+ min and wash out, and then do Aussie's three minute miracle for as long as I could in the shower/bath. Let dry and then do the coconut oil (if you're going to bleach again.)

I'm pretty sure, if it wasn't for living at a place for a year previous to this that had WAY overchlorinated water, my hair would have been in better shape. It didn't start to get raggedy though until I'd toned it three or more times (I lost count) and then bleached it again. So I cut off a bunch of hair (which I've been wanting to do for ages) and have been rocking a shaggy, longer than my shoulders look.

Oh, and get Blue bleach (I'm pretty sure it's blue bleach, someone chime in?) I got purple bleach, but blue bleaches 1-2 levels more. If I'd have done that, I would have only needed to bleach two days in a row-- not three.

I've done my hair "wacky" pretty recently and I've gotten a good response from it overall. Of course there will always be the few that don't like it, but oh well. I get compliments so much more on my hair now! I freaking love it. Too bad it's fading away though and will soon go back to blonde :/
I feel like I'm getting more favorites and making more as well with the change. If it weren't such a hassle to upkeep I would keep this color for far much longer. It definitely helps to stand out from the crowd of traditional colors.

I honestly think if I changed my hair at all, I would lose a lot of business. I get SOOOO many compliments on my hair. I think it depends on how your customers normally react to you, what do they compliment you on the most? If you go for the "natural" thing I would personally be hesitant to do anything too crazy... that's just me tho. Would a crazy hair color fit your usual persona on cam? Or would it be completely out of place? Those are the things I would think of.

this summer I half shaved my head, and a couple months back I bleached my hair and dyed it fushia. I've always dyed my hair but never bleached it until now, so this is the first time the color really 'pops' on cam. My $$$$ hasn't been negatively affected in the sightest, it's only gotten better. My regular guys still come back, and new guys still book and rebook. It took a couple of my best guys a minute to get used to it, but now they get it. It's still me. Everyone else who makes a comment just thinks it's cool.

I think any cam chica who portrays a cam persona of living life on her own terms can do whatever the fuck she wants with her look. Guys aren't all that simple, they recognize we're more than a collection of body parts

I think it is really going to depend on how much of your business is ABOUT your hair! A lot of guys LOVE the really bright look, but if your niche is being totally natural, it may affect you negatively.

I also feel frustrated by it, because I am a redhead, and ALL of my cutys talk about how much they love redheads, that redheads are kinkier, that they love natural redheads the most, etc etc. If I dyed my hair blue, you can bet your ass it would negatively impact my earnings.

However, if your hair ISN'T a major part of your persona, you should be fine....

Or you could do what I have decided to do, and BUY a bunch of good quality bright colored wigs! Then you can change up the color depending on your mood, and be less likely to be recognized IRL...better for your hair, too...

I've always been light brown or blonde on cam, but two weeks ago I became ginger! I got loads of positive comments from regulars, and attracted a lot of new customers too. Tonight I dyed it again - now fire truck red! Hope it goes down well tomorrow - I love it.
At the end of the day, you could always change it back.

    Do it!

If you're going to bleach your hair, invest in a hair stylist. Do not try to bleach your hair at home. A stylist will do a much better job, and unless your hair is short, you're likely to miss some spots when dyeing your hair a crazy color. And.. as someone that dyes her hair different colors frequently, I've found that it's best to switch colors gradually. For instance, rather than go from bright red to blue (which will result in a weird purplish color) go from bright red to pink or bright red to orange. From pink, you can go purple, from purple you can go blue, etc. all without having to rebleach your hair in between. I highly advise against bleaching your hair several times, even within a few months. Coconut oil works wonders, but everyone's hair is different, and it's better safe than sorry. No one likes straw for hair.

My hair is naturally blonde, so I do change it up every so often. I went from blonde to blue to green to purple, and the only reactions I've gotten have been positive ("Make this kind of clip with your new hair" "I love your hair so much"), etc.

Having been a frequent color-changer in the past, I would agree with the gradual change in tone.

However, I would NOT go to a salon. I have never had a bright color done at a salon that actually lasted, compared to what I have done myself. Then again, I have been dying my hair myself since I was 13, and at this point I probably know it better and have the experience to do it myself! If you do DYI, buy proper gloves, have a separate bowl, and buy combs, clips and a dye brush.

My biggest recommendation is not to wash it for as long as possible after dying, and try to wash with color-specific shampoo and in cold water. Avoid any "natural" shampoos containing baking soda like the plague!! However, if you screw up and want to strip the color without using a drugstore "stripper", then bust out the arm and hammer and it will be gone pronto.

If I were contemplating a hair change, I'd probably ask my customers what they think. Maybe bring it up in free chat, and privately ask a few of your regulars. I'm not saying you should solely base your decision on what they think, but I think they could give you really good input.

I've been at this for many years,in fact I started doing it really young so my customers kinda feel like they watched me grow up on cam.Alright that sounded creepy but you know what I mean...lol
I don't think they are focused as much on those little details as some like to think.I am not at all saying they dont notice the details tho....
I mean it depends what type of customers you have also I guess.

cuz I have some that will point out if i've shaved my damn eyebrows.Meanwhile my own husband won't notice if I've dyed my whole hair.

But to get to the point, hopefully you've gotten your customers addicted to YOU. Not what color your hair is today.
So I never give any thought to what my customers like or want. I do what I want, because I know no matter what I do they will still be there. And I think for the most part you can help yourself in that area by never falling into the rut of becoming stuck with 1 particular look.

I've had many looks over the years, that's just my personality. If your constantly changing it,it won't affect them.
And I'm pretty extreme...It could be very dark black makeup goth type crap one day
And the next day a pinup look.

And yes they will tell you which they like better, but I've noticed no matter what it is they'll still show up for a show.So just be fearless.

On that note tho. I have long natural red hair,so I rarely dye it anymore cuz they do like my natural hair.
Those manic panic dyes you were talking about sound heavenly, but I guess for some of us they are not.

Me for instance I dyed my hair with black and red streaks because it said...washes out within a month
It's been about 14 months now. It's still there.
And I have never even bleached my hair and then colored it.

So that's just me slapping some dye on it and not even bleaching it out to make it more effective...thank god?! haha Or I might be stuck with it 2-3 years.
Dye doesn't really come outa my hair even if it's suppose to wash out,it's almsot gone now,but only because it's grown out and is slowly being cut out lol.

Yes, Manic Panic sucks. I recommend Special Effects or Raw Color. You can buy Special Effects on Amazon and Raw Color is available at Hot Topic.

And, like Sinistress said, your customers are addicted to YOU. Your changing hair color is just a way to keep things fresh and new to keep them coming back!
