Default Need a new image...Help me out fashionistas!

Okay, I talked with a consultant last nite about my escort biz, and she brought up something I really dont ever think of, in my pics Im wearing pretty basic underwear. Like, though most of it is VS, even that is the basic stuff If you all have seen my posts on here about my personal sense of style, I lean towards band tshirts and jeans, vans and plaid...love me some plaid. I do avoid all of that when meeting a date, but I need to do an overhaul here.

For one, I want to step it up with my escort biz, but also just in my personal life, would be nice to be able to go out and look fierce and all that fun stuff. Part of my problem is Im super self conscious about how I look, I need to lose weight, so I try to just buy whatever doesnt make me look awful..and I dont have much money. But Im making a solid effort into getting a few quality pieces from a few quality designers, but thing is...I dont know what the fuck Im doing so hoping those of you who love this kind of stuff might be able to help me out.

So my idea is...at least 2 quality items in a few categories to start out with... I need toget some pics done, so the lingerie is a priority at the moment. Heres what I have in mind:

Lingerie - 2 bra/panty/garter sets from Agent Provocateur / Felina (any other suggestions welcome! Esp if not as expensive but is good quality and looks expensive!)

Heels - If I can get one or two very classic hot looking designer heels, to start out with that would go with a lot of outfits. Louboutin seems to be the holy grail, will strive for a red sole...any other brands I should look into as well?

Outfits - Im just lost..on my dates I usually wear black, something that comes just above the knee, but shows off my waist, kind of sexy conservative...so far the guys do seem to like that, but I just want to be able to get some ideas on something designer I can check into, that screams quality. Again, sticking with the "classic" look since I cant go wild with a told of outfits to start...something that woudl be great whether Im going out to dinner /evening wear, and also something appropriate for daytime. If it helps, Im a pear shape, 35-28-45, 5'10" with a 3' inseam. I really know nothing of labels when it comes to clothes...

Jewelry - would like to keep it simple, suggestions for a necklace and earrings that will go with just about anything, eventually a nice bracelet, watch, maybe a ring. I have nothing nothing...well, I have a cute guess watch with butterflies on it oh well. But yeah, only brand I really know of is Tiffannys, but I dont want a key necklace, just looks weird to me. But yeah, any suggestions for those pieces would be awesome too.

As far as price range...like I said most important to me right now is the lingerie and the shoes, so I can do my photoshoot. Im making it a goal to buy at least one or two things every month..equal to at least 2 dates...so I guess $600 goal a month. Biz has gotten a lot better here, so if I do particularly well, Id be wiling to spend even more than that.

So yeah, Im totally inept, those are the things I coudl think of..if you can think of anything Im leaving out please do let me know!!! If you have any suggestions for stuff for me to check out, please link me! One thing Ive found in my research is to also try ebay so as not to pay full price, your thoughts on that would be great too..I dont wanna end up with a cheap knockoff.

OH almost forgot...a handbag...I need one of those things too. Thanks for any help ladies!!!!

Ooh thanks, the only designer I reco on there is la perla, really curious about any other suggestions on there thta are good?. Like, I live in Miami and have a lot of these stores here where I can check things out and shop in person, so I dont so much need to know where to shop, as much what type of designers/items to look for, cause I dont know one label from the other

Awe thanks!! I do like my shape, just that ts super hard to shop for cause Im too disproportionate for clothes off the rack. If something fits my butt, its waaaay too big for my waist....and with my legs, most things look ridiculously short on me. Thats kind of why Im not really into shopping and know so little, cause its really frustrating and I just take whatever fits right.

Ive only owned one corset ever...that was like 10yrs ago LoL It did look great, and I love them. Only thing is....it would only be good for pics, like I cant really imagine wearing it out on a date. Kind of thinking bra/panty/garter sets would be more flexible to start with...but then I might not be thinking out the box here? Actually come to think of it, it would be a good shaper under clothes...hrm.

Pinterest.com is a great source of inspiration for me! Go to categories>women's fashion

Also, if you don't want to pay for Louboutins just yet you can buy these sticker things that you can put on your less expensive heels so they have the red CL look
There are two kinds, one is basically a sticker, and the other you take it to a shoe cobbler and they put it on the shoe for you

Here's a store that sells the stickers on eBay: http://stores.ebay.com/Shoe-Bottoms-Online
For the ones that need to be professionally applied search on eBay "red vibram sole"

I too have pretty extreme proportions, and what I have learned is that a $500 dress that I bought off the rack doesn't look as good as a $10 dress I bought at the thrift store that I spent some money on professional tailoring. Proper fit makes everything look better!

There is a really great book about shopping second hand, but most of the book is actually about fashion and how to spot quality fabric, workmanship, etc. It was really fascinating to me some of the stuff she writes about. For example, one of the ways to find out if a something is good quality, one of the ways is if it is striped the pockets, hem, everything matches and is congruent with the stripes, something that I would have never payed attention to before.

It's called "Secondhand Chic: Finding Fabulous Fashion at Consignment, Vintage, and Thrift Shops"
    http://www.amazon.com/Secondhand-Chi.../dp/0671027131
I found a copy at my library so but am considering buying it because it's such timeless advice!

I need a book like that!!!!! And consignment shopping is actually not a bad idea, I didnt even consider that, but come to think of it, we have a *ton* of them in Miami!!

Holy cow louboutin stickers! lol I never would have guessed!! Of course though, me being me shot stright to the pink stickers. I already have plaid Vans with pink bottoms, Id go crazy with that on my heels LoL

Def though, will check out the second hand shops here...esp the ones on SoBe. Before I lay down hundreds on one thing, I can maybe actually get a bit of a wardrobe going here....

Yeah go for it! I actually have a YouTube channel where I talk about my thrift store finds and it's so fun! If you want the link I'll pm it for privacy reasons if anyone else wants it as well

ive gotten discount ap on ebay. obviously this is something you need to check regularly and it may take a few weeks before you get a great find.

theres a lot of discount professional attire on ideeli and hautelook.com. the sales change every day so this another thing that you will have to check regularly till you find the perfect outfit. it shouldn't take long though.

personally I think that cl is tacky and more of a social statement than actually good fashion. putting red stickers on shoes is just bad. don't get fake designer shit either. it would be better to go to a department store, maybe take advantage of a sale, and get a reasonably priced outfit (under $200) and then have it tailored to fit you perfectly. same with bags...just find something practical with good quality leather instead of something random with a designer tag. if you are trying to impress really quality people, they will be more impressed with quality fabric that fits your form perfectly than a red sticker on your soles and a monogrammed bag.

as for lingerie recommendations, i prefer ap, chantelle, simone perele, and mimi holliday. la perla fits horribly and looks terrible underneath clothes. look into the waspies ap makes, they are like corsets but smaller so they are still sexy but not as constricting.

I had a bustier and a pair of Agent Provocateur garters and a few thongs from La Perla given as gifts and in quality it didnt rival decent department stores too much. Unless theyre your target audience, really only other women would eye for that kind of thing? Id say if this is your first trial of revamping your image, dont put a bunch of $$$ down on labels and look for structure, design, simplicity, and colors that fit you and your skin tone / image best. If AP and La Perla have very unique designs that you know would fit your body like a glove and project your image in a way that you cant find elsewhere, go for it?

Otherwise, really no one is going to be eyeing the stitching with a magnifying glass... so maybe use more of your $$ to have more options? You may start to feel stuck in "I spent 500 on this outfit" uniforms and be overanxious if someone tugs at a ribbon or something.

Garters, nylons, new heels, and a matching bra/panty set where lace or silk (or the appearance of it) or something is featured and the structure of the lingerie looks tailored to your body is more than enough to look more expensive or that youve done an overhaul at least. If your skin is radiating, you feel fabulous, your hair is laid for the gods, the bra gives enough umph, and your posture is strong - really that ups the expensive quotient substantially already. That's my perspective at least? Lingerie is often balled up and tossed aside or just on display for photoshoots ykwim?

Also if you feel disproportionate - like was said above, getting items tailored makes a world of difference. A dress that is $500 but fits oddly looks cheaper than a off the rack dress that fits like a glove.

One thing that is really hard for me but I try to force myself to do is pay close attention to what women who seem to always be put together wear? And by that I mean women who look like me, especially in shape and height and age. And to be really brutally honest

One way to do this is to look up the measurements of celebrities you like? Now theyre often underestimated but you can get a general idea, and to pay attention to their candid (not photoshopped) pictures, and see what they look like in motion wearing either certain trends or classic pieces.

Im not a fashionista though lol but when I'm trying to be a poser fashionista then Ill keep these things in mind.

I used to just buy labels and hoped that if I spent a lot on an outfit then itd project that it was expensive and put together and that I was therefore expensive and put together - but that can be a trap. Plus you dont really develop a sense of style if you focus on the certain brands only when there are so many others out there. You just become a page from a catalog?

I agree though that your measurements are hot, play that up!

....Shoes I have no idea unfortunately for shoes this philosophy goes out the window.

Thanks SO much for all this advice!!!! And yeah, I feel a lot better about the cost factor, because that is kind of whigging me out. I mean, to be honest I never pay attn to labels at all, I dont know what most of them are and for the love of god cant begin to imagine how to even prounounce some of the labels.

I asked my best friend about the consignment shop shed told me about on SoBe, and she said that she closed up shop to sell privately and shes also a stylist, so now shes only working one on one instead of just running a shop, and so shes going to give her a call so that we can go visit her. I have heard that about getting clothes tailored, actually its something someone mentioned to me many years ago when I complained most clothes dont fit me off the rack. So Im going to look into that too.

With purses, even though Im not really into labels and know nothing...what I do know is I got a leather kenneth cole purse about 10 years ago, and of all the purses Ive bought since then, this is the only one that has lasted and looks just as good...and I use it as my everyday purse, so I figure there is something to be said for getting a more expensive purse rather than cheaper ones.

I still dont want clothes/shoes/purses with the label or label design all over them cause I dont know, stuff like that, it looks like the item is what gets the attention, not the woman in them. I still though wouldnt mind a pair of CL's...yes, I know its a status thing, but I dont know, I really do kind of like the Decollete, and wouldnt mind having one piece that makes a statement.

I think you're all right about the lingerie...Ive heard a lot of negs about la perla, seems its just expensive but not very functional/flattering. Ill focus on AP though cause I havnt heard a sing bad thing about that and will look into some of the boutiques around here to see what they have too.

So...what Im looking at to keep myself from overspending, is to limit myself to $1k for a couple sets of lingerie (bra/panty and garter set...maybe also a waspie, I love the look of those), 2 or 3 outfits and a pair of shoes (not to inc the CL...Ill save that for when I make more money lol) Does that sound reasonable?

Ooh and yes roast, I did start looking at celebs, namely Beyonce since at least her lower body seems to be a bit like mine, to see what type of clothes she wears... I feel so silly though to be so lost about this. I can tell you, my worst nightmare is a guy taking me shopping for clothes. I wouldnt know where to start LoL

I have this and love it. so gorgeous. in the club i don't wear it because costumey shit looks better but if i was an escort this is all i would wear.

i also have this which is more fun
    http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/mimi-hol...=Lingerie+Sets

this will probably be my first la perla buy but i'll just assume it'll fit horribly and i'll return it
    http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/la-perla...=Lingerie+Sets

beware of elle macpherson. beautiful sets but they run small and are kinda stiff.

agent provocateur is having their sale right now. snatch something up! this is on sale and will be (relatively) comfortable and not weird under clothes. http://www.agentprovocateur.com/us-m...c-waspie~black i think ap waspies run small (i have a pretty tiny waist but i still dont fit into their xs) and their bras run kinda small or true to size, but if you are used to vs sizing you will think they run really small. i usually wear a 30 band (tight) or a 32 band (loose) but my latest ap bra was a 34 and its really tight. but tbh i'm not impressed with anything they have right now, the only nice bras they have mimi holliday or chantelle has similar but better. 2011 and 2010 they had some great unique stuff.

I really like eshakti.com for dresses and blouses. They will make anything custom to your measurements. Some of the stuff is really retro, but they do have more classic ensembles as well.

Wow Charlottze, when I saw the front page I was like eh toooo retro, but they have some really nice dresses for daytime... Very cool too that you can do custom sizing and styling for just $8 more...

I love that Simone Perele set! Im going to have to check out Nordstrom...actually just in general, I need to start visiting the mall again LoL I went for Christmas to buy kiddos gift, and realized Id not even been in a mall in like 3 years. Seeing how Im 5m from a regular mall and 5m from a luxury mall, I really should at least walk around, do some window shopping to help give me ideas.

re: consignment, keep in mind, large cities (especially cities known for its clothes-whores,) are great for finding designer clothes on craigslist, massively reduced. I only do it once or twice a year, but I look for bulk lots from people who've lost weight or are just replacing their whole closet's worth of clothes.

I ended up getting a bulk lot of jeans (that fit! omg, such a pain going to the mall) for $150 that included like 50 pairs of pants from Lucky, Gap, Victoria Secret and a couple other brands. Some I've ended up giving away because they don't have the perfect fit, but most I've kept. This doesn't even include the shirts that were in the deal. For the price of 2-3 pairs of jeans, I got over two trash bags of clothes.

I know you're looking for something more than jeans/shirts, but craigslist in miami is probably pretty bad ass for good looking clothing.

Indeed!!! Never would have thought of that, Im going to look into that too Fiendish!!!

Truly, thanks so much for the great ideas ladies...this whole thing isnt as nervewrecking now as I originally felt

BTW in the midst of all of this, found out Ive been wearing the wrong bra size I always thought I was 34B, turns out Im 36C...no wonder all my bras hurt and I get side spillage...might seem like common sense, but my boobs *look* so small and have no fullness to them that its laughable Id be a C. Apparently... But anyway, important cause now when I get new bras, my clothes will fit and look better too....

U dont have to have a 1000 pair of designer heels to look hot...I believe u said before u were n ur mid 30s..Thats a hard age bc uve fallen away from the young 21/22 trendy crowd but ur not 45-50 yet...Its important to pay attention to trends but imho buying a nice 100 pair of shoes if chosen carefully can look just as good as the 1000 pair that imo is a waste of money unless ur making 1000 every night u go to work...I am over 30..and I stay current with most things..Feel free to pm me...I had someone the other night guess I was 10 years younger than I am even tho I didnt believe him lol..

yeah, Im mid 30's, but look more like mid 20's, and with the way I dress just makes it worse, cause I look more like a college student than anything I dont look old enough to dress "mature" or "my age" but not really trendy either...I think my personality has a lot to do with that too though.

Yeah, biz is starting to pick up big time, and Id like to step it up and be able to attract and pull in more high dollar business, so Im willing to put the money I make back into my biz to make more money. Def do agree that I dont need to blow wads, the advice Ive been getting has been great for achieving that. I would like a couple things that make a statement, but not looking to spend big $$ on everything...just a couple things here and there, like someone advised me, mix it up with high and low, for an overall polished look.

I have so much to concentrate on this month, kiddo's sweet 16, plus getting pro photos is a priority....but would like to set aside about $1k /mth for a couple months to put towards getting some things. Considering that Im really starting from *nada* I cant drop tons....just want to be able to have nicer lingerie, a couple nicer outfits, shoes, accessories, jewerly..see where Im going with this? I seriously have nothing. Like, I pretty much rotate out the same 3 dresses I have between dates...which are nice but when it comes to a guy seeing me more than a couple times, I end up in a panic lol and I have one pair of heels that I always wear cause they are the nicest ones I have. Thats it. After I get a few more basic pieces, then Ill strive to add at least one new thing a month.

Its not only for work though, I just feel like I need to update my look period, so its for both work and personal reasons... I love my band t-shirts, but I have the feeling they arent doing me justice LoL Plus it would be nice to not get hit on by college boys all the time...

Don't get anything that doesn't feel like you. No matter how amazing and hot it looks on you you will feel like a freak. For shoes get something you feel comfortable walking in. I stick to Stuart Weitzman and Pour La Victoire. Red bottoms are for hos. Dresses are easy. I missed your measurements but you don't need to get anything tailored. Stick to something like you are already wearing. Black(ish), knee length and sexy but not slutty. Undies are easy too. Go snag some things from the end of the Victoria's Secret semi-annual sale before it ends. Bras are all 15 and undies 3. Seriously..you do not need La Perla or AP. Both brands fit me like crap besides the custom silk that AP had a few years ago in europe. Neiman Marcus outlet, Saks Off 5th, Nordtrom Rack, TJ Maxx and sample sales are my best friend. You can get A LOT for 1000 a month. You do not even need to do that once you get a little collection going. My day style is exactly like yours. Maybe even more "whateva!" I even take off my makeup in front of clients on longer dates. I am pretty thrifty when it comes to shopping. Nobody ever knows. I tend to dress classic and don't really do trends. PM me if you need links to anything. Amazon is always amazing for good deals.

    Definitely do PM me please!!!

And yeah, I think tailoring might be an answer, only because my measurements are so wacky its very hard to find something that fits properly (35-28-45) but there are a lot of little tailoring shops around here, so at least to take in the waist cause that's an issue....I have a size S/M top and a L/XL butt. I like my shape, just hard to find something to fit without it being stretchy and super figure fitting, plus my legs are long so they also look inappropritely short on me and all thats not my thing...so the dresses I wear for dates are A-line.

I would look a bit wacky/awkward maybe even in something too trendy, Id like to find some classic looks, that I can change up with the right accessories and stuff like that and wont drop out of style. I *really* wish though that I had the gift to find things when shopping and know how to put things together...I just gave up on even trying so long ago, but will give it a go here. Oooh! but I just checked, and theres a Nordstroms Rack close to me...so Im going to have to check that out... And ohhh yes, I needed a new convertible bra, so I went to VS a couple days ago and walked right into the semi-annual sale. Along with a $30 gift card, I ended up only spending $1.50 on a super hot lacy convertible bra, and matching panties, and my date was all wooooow! LoL So Im planning to head back there tomorrow to get some more stuffs. It has begun....
