lol this is pretty funny and cool!
I had a very messed up childhood, which contributed to some messed up teenage years. I pretty much spent the first two decades of my life full of self-loathing and feelings of inadequacy. I was really smart, completed high school in three years, got my BA at the age of 20 while working full time to pay for college. Classic over-achiever, but internally there was a lot of sadness and pain. I started cutting at the age of 11, developed an eating disorder in college and starved away 40 pounds, never experimented with drugs but self abuse was a major factor and now I'm a full blown alcoholic. I was verbally and emotionally abused by my step-father every single day since the age of 8, my father abandoned me at the age of 12, my mother never protected me, so by the time I was 18/19 I was sleeping in my truck parked on the bad side of town just to not have to go home, I'd sneak in after my mother and step-father left for work to shower, change, go to work or classes, sleep in my truck, repeat. It was awful.
God, that was depressing.
aw courtney *hugs* I'm sorry you had to go through that. I love that song so much emotion. I like the nine inch nails version too.
This, if only because I was playing it the first time I ever drank alcohol in my life, hahaha.

That's ok, you are like the flower that grew from the mud!! That is a harrowing story but these experiences have probably made you a very strong person. Hugs from Christine.

for me it would probably be "Strange Little Girl" by the Stranglers...I was always the one with dyed red hair, black clothes and a Siouxsie and the Banshees t-shirt, wanting to get away from everyone and be alone and smoke clove cigarettes...

Good Charlotte, anyone?
I went into high school having been beaten down by the "popular" girls in middle school. I was legitimately friends with several of them, but there were 3 who hated me and that made me basically a hanger-on that followed them around. Those 3 were EVIL - like, I seriously thought I'd NEVER get a boyfriend because they had told the whole school I was a lesbian.
Between middle and high school, I went on a shopping spree, totally turned into a skater punk type, and fell in with the hoodlums and a group of other kids who didn't "belong "in any one clique in high school and I suddenly belonged, but never wanted to be popular or "preppy" ever again
Though I do have to say, I got a little bit of revenge: one of the most popular dudes in school joined the band I played in, and after he graduated I brought him to my junior homecoming as my date. Twas quite amusing to hear "Oh my God, HE'S your date?!" Why yes, yes he is![]()

Graduate- Third Eye Blind
I went to high school in a lower income gang ridded area. I attended a charter school in the area that took in kids that had been kicked out of public school. The school had no library, science labs, or computer labs. My mother sent me there convinced it was a better school. But it was not, and I would say over half my class was being passed along. There where also fights in classes atleast a few times a week. I knew the education I was getting there was substandard when we were still diagraming sentences in 11th grade. I also attended a well funded summer program in a upperclass area and realized how far behind I was even the worst students there. I actually had to get another student to show me some computer basics. So because going to the regular public school in my neighborhood would be just as bad I left school after 11th grade. I took my GED passed with high scores and went strait into college. It felt good to graduate and take control of my education. I can honestly say I probably would not have even gone to university if I had graduated from the charter school. I also spent the first year in college taking pre-requisites that I would have had to take even if I had graduated as my class was also just getting into algebra 1 level at 11th grade.
Basiclly my education was crap until I went to University. Getting my GED felt good, and graduating from university was the best way to recover from a crap education.

Good thread. Not sure what mine would be,I was into all the tortured teen pop punk but really I didn't have it so bad. +1 on good Charlotte I loooved them.
Few years later I thought it was all so lame but now those songs are catchy and nostalgic!![]()

Lana del ray "This is what makes us girls". I grew up in a pretty average lifestyle. A few close girlfriends, drinking, and boys. Nothing too crazy. I love her though, she has such an amazing voice.
