Default Bringing an old pair of shoes back to life.

Just an idea I thought I'd pass along to anyone who has a pair of shoes they don't want to wear anymore due to being scuffed, chiped, and all around abused looking. I had a pair of 8in silver heels laying in a trunk that I hadn't worn in years. The silver was just breaking off and showing the white shoe underneath, but otherwise they were still in wearable condition. So I brushed on a layer of industrial strength glue around the platforms and covered them in silver glitter. Surprisingly, they look fucking fabulous. I would imagine this would work with any color... Just match the glitter to the shoe color to blend in specks that show through. I'm going to buy some spray glue as well and coat them or maybe some clear spray finish from an art store. That should keep all the glitter in place while dancing. Just be sure and tap shoes together like crazy to shake off the excess.

Great, although I'm not really so hot about glitter..wondering if some type of paint would work. I love the idea of bring some thing back to life or keeping it going. Many times my shoe maker would say "Oh, that's too old (to fix)

scotch duct tape makes patterned and colored tape. It works great. I have a pair with pink paisley pattern tape on the platform and heel.

You should use mod podge an mix with the glitter of your choice. Layer thinly and add a second coat. It both seals and glues and is far better than regular glue! So funny you mentioned doing this as it had caught my eye today on Pinterest haha! Use the high shine too. Best of luck! Ill be doing this to my platforms. And acrylic pair can be painted on the shoe first, then after drying, use mod podge to seal

I also found a sealer by krylon called glitter blast. it was like, $4 at Walmart by the craft paints and glue. Stays clear and holds the glitter down pretty good. Didn't see the message about mod podge in time... But this should do the trick too.

(Duct tape fixes everything! I'll have to try that next time.) cheers to us and our fabulous recycled shoes!

I've painted 2 shoes with modge podge and glitter, definitely layer 2 coats and keep the glue/glitter mix thin, the first time i tried it my ratio of glitter to glue was too high and it came out a little clumpy, but still pretty! I got the spray sealer by modge podge too but I haven't sprayed the shoes yet, honestly i took both pairs to work and didn't have any glitter loss or rub off anywhere on the shoes so they might not need a sealer but better safe than sorry I guess. Also remember to match dark colored glitter with black shoes, light colored glitter with silver or clear.

I also like to spray paint my old shoes new colors, I completely tape off the upper plastic with blue painters tape to protect against over spray. You need many thin coats of paint to get the new color to shine and a top clear coat of luster.

aaand when it comes to the soles of shoes, bleach and water will almost completely clean foot stains from white soles. Just don't soak the shoes if the heels are clear, water will get inside and mist up permanently. Dip a scrub brush in bleach water and take care not to overly soak the soles so water doesn't get inside. I personally hate white soles because they always look dirty, so I pick up a packet of RIT fabric dye and dye the soles a darker color to hide the foot stains. Mix it up in a cup or bowl and paint the soles with a paintbrush.

When the ankle straps break, I cut them off as close to the sole as I can, and use HeelStraps as a replacement http://www.heelstrapshop.com/product...2357ce81abcc82

    Hope these tips help!

Is it okay to put just the mod podge on the shoes first, then sprinkle the glitter on, then when that dries to do the final layer of mod podge on top (as the sealant)? Does this chip easy, or should this hold up for a bit?

I have black heels and got water on the inside of them. I have no clue how to get it out without destroying the shoes. X(

I loooove the duct tape idea! I'd be too worried about the glitter. Seems like no matter how much glue and tapping, there'll still be fallout (?) It'll be on the stage...then it'll get on me..and I haaaaate when there's glitter on me!
