I absolutely hate the fact that once you have done porn, you are effectively disqualified from ever working in schools.
Like others said, it sends the message that if you fuck up ONCE - once in your WHOLE LIFE - you will never be forgiven for it. It is similar to the issue with criminal records - once you have one, you are unable to work in many jobs and industries, and most companies don't want to hire you. So what is left? Oh right, crime. One of my exes was a career criminal (smart choice on my part, I know. I was young and stupid) but it was so sad, because what he really WANTED to do was to change his life, and work with young offenders, so they didn't end up like him. But he couldn't, because he had a criminal record. So he just kept on going. SO SAD.
But what is worse, from my perspective, is the idea that doing porn means that you have "fucked up", or is something that you should he "forgiven" for. The reason that she was fired was because it was decided that her colleagues and students wouldn't be able to respect her, knowing that she did porn - which would prevent her from being an effective teacher. That is possibly true - but what gets me is the idea that working in the sex industry should mean that you are no longer able to be respected!!! The idea that being naked online, or having sex for money is so terrible, so shameful, so disgusting, that no one could ever respect you again!
Well fuck me. That just ain't right.
I don't see anything wrong with porn. I don't see anything wrong with us choosing to work for ourselves, doing something we love, that is legal, and makes others happy. I will keep saying it, but I want to change this. I want to make porn a legitimate career. Maybe one that a lot of people wouldn't want to do, like being a mortician, or a taxidermist (hey, people think that is gross too, right!) but that doesn't mean that you are immediately branded as damaged goods for doing.
And like someone else said, where are the repercussions for all the other players in this little drama? Where is the punishment of the students who are illegally downloading porn, underage? Where is the backlash on the sites that are allowing CHILDREN to view porn? Where is the backlash on the other teachers, who are apparently downloading and circulating porn around the school staff? Where is the anger at the teachers who bullied and sexually harassed this poor woman?
Silly me, none of that matters, because she was just a dirty, stupid whore who shouldn't be allowed near children in case her disgusting sluttiness is somehow contagious. Ugh.

OMG THANK YOU! It does not take a genius to figure out whether or not someone has worked as a webcam model. Plus, um, 1099s? Earnings statements? Direct deposits into your account? When you file your taxes you are creating a paper trail. It does NOT take a lot to figure out where your earnings are coming from. I've had the same checking account for almost 7 years and when I went to open a new savings account with the same bank I was told that "independent contractor" wasn't clear enough when I filled out the employment section and they denied my savings account application; with all of these anti-money laundering laws that are being set banks are getting REALLY particular about knowing where your money is coming from. That means that someone, somewhere is going to know you get naked for money. Maybe stripping is different if you work in a club that doesn't report your earnings, but as cam girls who make our money electronically there is no escaping it.
I think it is unfortunate that certain professions make one ineligible to be hired purely based on their porn/camming/naked background. That being said, you'd have to be a complete idiot to think you've found a way around the system and that you can never be caught. Not showing your face on cam is completely irrelevant and has no bearing on whether or not your cam history will come up when background checks are done on you. To think you're in the clear just beacuse you only show from the shoulders down is, I'm sorry, stupid.
I don't think it's right but the fact remains that if you cam, you're not going to be able to work with kids. If you cam, you're not going to be able to work a government or high profile job. It WILL be discovered and you will be disqualified from employment due to morality clauses. I don't think it's fair but it's be realistic, that's just the way it is. There are still straight jobs that will hire you, but if you expect to get a high profile job or one with kids you are not being realistic. No one cares that you were just doing what you had to do to pay your bills in an honest and legal way, employers in these industries only care about how your past will tarnish their reputation. Sad but true.
I never plan on working a straight job again, I'm spoiled by being my own boss and when I transition away from camming I'll be transitioning towards other working from home/independent contractor opportunities. That is your safest bet. To assume that you can get any ol' vanilla job you want after camming for money is incredibly naive.
It just blows my mind that some people who pose nude are okay, and most aren't. Okay so I can't think of the name right now but she keeps doing christmas movies on ABC FAMILY, but yet she used to do porn. Look at the Kardashian who posed nude, but yet everybody loves her (although she's a hate or love kind of girl). Am I missing something here?!
It just blows my mind!

Oh, and a note to anyone thinking that just "not showing your face" or "only showing it in free" is going to prevent this happening. Nope.
It may make it less likely that you are immediately recognized, but it won't stop it happening.
As Courtney just pointed out, you still have a paper trail to your name. You can still be found through background checks.
If you are doing this, you also better make sure that you do not have any scars, tattoos, piercings, identifying marks, or a very distinctive body, including your pussy. I could pick out any of my exes' naked bodies from a line up without too much trouble - and you can bet that someone can do that for you, too.
On top of which, if you are showing in free, you are revealing yourself anyway! People can still recognize you! People can still film free chat! And just because you aren't naked in a clip, doesn't mean it isn't porn. When it comes to situations like this, the mere fact that you are streaming on a porn site means that you are making porn, and all they need is that shot of you in free, in clothes, on a porn site, and you are done.
In BC, there was a fairly well-publicized case of a teacher losing her job after she took sexy bikini photos on a boat - because they were intended to be "sexy" and (I think) were for some competition or magazine. She was just in a BIKINI, and they were not going to be sold, or used as non-nude "porn" but she lost her job anyway.
If you do this, do it under the assumption you will be found out. Better safe than sorry.

The thing that gets me is...I dont even see this line of work as a bad or negative thing to do. Like, being in the adult industry isnt a mistake to me or a bad choice or something that I wish I didnt have to do...Its something Ive been doing for 12 years now, I love the industry, I love the independence and financial security it gives me and Im very grateful for having the opportunity to be in it.
I read a blog post by a stripper who was RVing (cause, all I ever read lately are RV blogs) and in it she muses, that it wasnt the stripping shes ashamed of, but the views of society against her for what she did, thats what made her feel ashamed...not the job itself and I would have to agree. I will never consider my time in as a mistake, a bigger mistake to me, would have been to do whats socially correct, work 3 jobs min wage and living off of gvt assistance and / or hook up with some guy to take care of me and help with the bills..you know, be a normal single mom. Screw that!
Anyway, I think its horrible that a woman cannot move on from the adult industry, which is nothing more than a job, and go into another profession without this following her like a dark cloud. Our job has no reflection on our ability to do another job well. None. And to be honest, knowing what goes into being in this industry, how hard working, focused, thick skinned and determined one has to be to make it in this industry...Id hop on it and feel fortunate to have someone like that working in my company.
and YES why are all these jerks not even somewhat concerned that these kids are watching porn? Wheres DCF?!!!!!!!
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!

Word. Already TWO guys who I know IRL (who know me by my REAL name) have found me on MyFreeCams. The one guy blurted out "You used to work at _____" (name of the local newspaper), and the other guy kept calling me by my first initial until I messaged him, telling him to STOP doing that.....

Yep. I was already found out by my family, and no one who knows them knew I worked in adult. They found out on their own. And this is with a completely different hair color and a different voice than they were used to. And that does not even include the # of people who have come in my room (I don't know who they are) that have said "hey you're from ______!" (<--- my real location)
Seriously, like all men look at porn. You are bound to be seen! People can still recognize your body. And if someone suspects if you, they may watch you for MONTHS just to make sure its you- looking for subtle details or mannerism that you do. Its easy to figure out.
And yes, there is a paper trail with camming! A huuuuge one- even more so than with straight up porn or dancing. 1099s, bank deposits, payoneer accounts, 2257 compliance forms, etc.
And the reason why its OK for celebs to do is because adulty stuff in entertainment skyrockets your career. In education, health care, politics, and leadership positions? Opposite effect. If you all want adult work to be socially accepted to badly, you should be prepared for a huge influx of millions of women doing it for extra cash on the side when not working their vanilla job. Now try competing with that.
People will find out. Someone hates you? Anonymous message to your boss. Applying to work at a school? Background check. I'm not going to say you can't get ANY job (fast food will definitely still hire you) but there's a pretty good chance that at some point it will be found out and it will get in your way, no matter what steps you take against it. There was a girl just a few months back who posted here saying that a strip club came up in her background check for a job. I don't believe it prevented her from getting it as she claimed she'd been a house mom/makeup artist there or something but the odds of you getting found out by SOMEONE are decently high.

What do you mean? Its you! Thats like asking "even if it is you, how can they prove it?" They don't need to prove it. Any employer can fire you at any time for whatever they want, through loopholes. I just watched a TV eposide a couple days ago where a teacher got fired because the student said she had sex with them, even though she didn't. If its an employer, all they have to do is some digging and they can find your 1099s, and things like that.
If a random person who knows you finds you, they could easily record you, upload it to youtube, find your employer or HR director's email, and anonymously email it. People are vicious and jealous. It happens I'm sure.

Ah yeah, and the paper trail. Altough over here it works very different, we have no 1099's, no effective IRS no nothing and they hardly ever do background checks, A few places simply want a "certificate" that shows you have no criminal record, the rest just wants the qualification.
But we just can't remain anonymous and faceless. After all the first step into the camming industry was giving out my personal details and uploading my face holding my ID next to it.
ETA:
Just from my own example, being very inconsistent on SM, low average, few hours worked, I still frequently made it to the first page, and the first row of my category. Now SM is a huge site with huge traffic, advertisments. Let's say a guy who knows me and watches porn, will find SM sooner or later. If he loves my type, he will check that category, probably go from room to room to look around. If that night I'm sitting in the first 5 in my category it doesn't even take 10 minutes from him hitting SM he will be in my room. If he is not sure, he will opt-in for the notifications when I'm online and continue watching me, untill he is sure.

No, it means: 1. If a model looks like you and someone suspects that model is you, the person or institution conducting your background check can just look up your 1099s, bank records, IRS records, etc. and find our if YOU were accepting money to get naked online.
2. Even if they don't find a cam model who has the same look as you, when you agree to a background check you agree to all of the above being done. Like GR said, private sector companies don't need an excuse to fire you. Depending on what states you live in some employers can fire you just because.

this makes me so sadand angry. this society is ridiculously prudish. anything that tickles in my no-n0-naughty-parts must be evil, especially when it comes to women!! BS. can't believe we as women have come so far and still have to deal with this. i've always wanted to be a kindergarten teacher or work with kids. i don't feel that what i do legally with other consenting adults in a non-violent manner would make me unfit to be around children. its the whole whore-bashing thing that keeps rearing its ugly head.."a woman is trash, and disgraceful unless she is sexually pure" crap. what are we, stuck in the 1900s again?

Best is, the most hateful and the prudest would be the most annoyed if no more "dirty whores" did porn.
What about the men who pay escorts, phone sex operators and web cam cam models? What about the men who are into dommes who have them humiliate themselves on cam or take pictures of them doing it? I saw a blog where a domme posts pictures of men who have written on themselves with marker, wear chastity locks, and walk around in their wives' dresses and heels for her. Their faces are blurred or masked, but if someone recognized them, would they get fired? But, the woman providing the service is unfit for work outside adult entertainment? Get real.
It offends me that doin porn means you can't work with children. Does this mean I'm disqualified to be a mother, too?
What if you were having sex with your boyfriend/husband, and a so-called friend cracked the door and recorded it and leaked it? Then what? Would you still be fired because you were taped unknowingly and without permission? (this never happened to me btw lol)

Basically everyone has already said what I would have added!
I also want to know, what about the people who PAY FOR OUR SERVICES?! Surely they are unfit to work/parent/etc too, right? I bet that principle has watched porn... I bet the husbands of the other teachers (or the teachers themselves) trying to get her fired have watched porn....
Just so wrong.
xoxo ~ Sarah

The men get fired too. But as someone who consumes a sexwork product, its easier to shift focus onto the creator of it. If women liked looking at porn more, it would be the same situation.
If you made a homemade sextape and it leaked, yes you would be fired. Its porn.
Celebrities & the entertainment industry- its different than vanilla careers. Celebrities lie and say their tapes were leaked, when in reality, they leak them. You have to have all parties in it sign a document releasing it, but thats what they don't tell you. If someone literally stole it and put it on the internet, the FBI would almost instantly track the person down in a flash using the IP address used to upload it, and then that person would be in jail & it would be all over the news. Why doesn't this happen? Because celebrities leak them themselves for PR exposure.

Porn stars shouldn't be doing porn according to society, but if they stop doing porn and try to adopt a more traditional career, they STILL won't be accepted by society, because they did porn in the past. So what's a person to do in that situation?
i'm certain that not everyone will agree with my position on this, but IMHO if you are going to perform ANY sort of adult industry related work, you should maximize your earnings in every way possible. The reasoning behind this is as follows ...
Any straight profession that involves the 'public trust' i.e. teaching, health care, banking, law enforcement etc. ... and anything which requires a professional license ... is subject to 'professional conduct' standards. And while adult industry work is not illegal, 'public trust' employers and state professional licensing agencies do consider adult industry work to be 'unprofessional conduct'.
It appears that America is now in a permanent situation of too many applicants for too few new jobs. As such, employers are in a position where they can reject 90% of the applicants for a job opening for no specific reason whatsoever, and still find a qualified employee to fill that job opening. A history of adult industry work is simply something that employers don't want to 'take a chance' on. And lately, after the court ruling about the beautiful dental assistant who was fired because she was 'too attractive', just being stunningly beautiful without a history of adult industry work is enough to make potential employers avoid 'taking a chance' on hiring the stunningly beautiful job applicant.
iMHO any girl who is looking toward a future involving a 'public trust' job or a profession requiring a professional license should think twice before creating a 'paper trail' of work in the adult entertainment industry. And if she does decide to work in the adult entertainment industry, since the potential 'damage' is equal if she works one day a week or full time, she should maximize her earnings ... to compensate for potential negative future backlash.

Yup...just like how they are deflecting from the issue of children watching porn, they would deflect from guys who are clients/customers and focus on the women providing it.
Fucked up? Indeed.
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!

Yep. Basically, if you work for someone as an employee (or even an independent contractor), well its not YOUR company. You don't get to choose someone else's company's image. Therefore, you don't get to choose if you, an ex-sexworker, gets to stay hired on or not. There are always loopholes to get someone fired, whether legal/ethical or not. And "unprofessional conduct" is always a clause, therefore a solid excuse to fire an ex-sexworker.
Now, if it was your own business or your own company, you could be an ex-sexworker and still work there of course. Because its your company. You own it. You control your company's image and oversee the hiring.
Sad but true facts of life.

This has been in the news so far 3 or 4 times since last year.
Different cases all the same .. including the woman that modeled lingerie I want to say almost 20 years ago (dont quote me about the years that passed) , fired from her gig as a guidance counselor
LOL @ the comment "Of course FOX news reported" <--- FOX is so humorous to me , I found it more funny when reported it is news entertainment and ppl actually believe 100% what they say. JMO
^I think that's totally valid. And I agree with mostly what everyone has posted. I think we all know what the reality of the situation is. I think we all just acknowledge that it's complete bullshit on behalf of those people who pass judgement and deprive such women of new opportunities...
I've just never understood how our entire society has managed to adopt this Puritanistic view of sex and sexuality, when sex is responsible for the survival of our species and is one of the most remarkably beautiful and pleasurable experiences that life has to offer. Completely blows my mind!! Because Melonie is right, it is not just sex workers who are discriminated against, but beautiful women who are considered sexually desirable. We should be praised and revered as the fucking goddesses that we are. Sorry if that sounds egotistical... I'm just so sick of seeing this stigma EVERYWHERE lately! A stripper died at work and it was a fucking joke to the journalists and talk shows reporting it. Fuck, I'm proud of every confident, self-assured woman in this industry for not being a brainwashed sex-fearing zombie. I hope the teacher goes back to camming and metaphorically shoves her dildo up everyone else's asses that were implicated in her termination.![]()
