    Default Second hand smoke

Hi ladies! Do any of you work in clubs that have heavy smoking but don't smoke yourself? I work in Nola clubs and always come home smelling like an ashtray. I understand I'm in a bar/club and I expect to smell smoky but my main concern is all the second hand smoke I'm breathing in and the effect on my health and skin. I eat very healthy, drink plenty of water and exercise. I don't drink alcohol at work. many of my customers smoke next to me and inevitably it gets right in my face....sometimes they ask if I mind but I feel like it would be bad business for me to ask them to not light up....plus it probably wouldn't make much of a difference. Recently I've developed a little cough, maybe it's just allergies and I'm paranoid but I was wondering if anyone had tips for canceling out the ill effects of second hand smoke and keeping your skin looking healthy and clean. Ive been dancing for about a year and will continue until may. All the clubs in my area allow smoking so switching clubs isn't an option.

Well, I'm not dancing atm, & non-smoking is the norm @ all clubs here in Chi, but..I have 2 roomies that smoke like chimneys..yes I have a smoker's cough a little, (worsens my allergies too) I also have bronchititis, which worsens around 2nd hand smoke. I try to open the windows as much as possible, yeah sometimes my coat smells like smoke, ugh

I have the same problem and was wondering about this too, but then I found this thread: http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...20hand%20smoke
It seems like Vitamin C keeps getting mentioned. I also second the idea about showering as soon as you get home!

The club I worked at in OKC was a smoking bar with poor ventilation. I could be within 10 feet of someone and they'd know that I had worked that day.

The only thing I found to get rid of the smell is a shower as soon as I get home, and plastic bags for my clothes as soon as I walk in the door. I also kept my dance bag in the trunk of my car.

I was JUST going to post about my concerns with second hand smoke. My lungs are beginning to really feel the effects of all the second hand smoke from working 3 days a week. I hopped on the US CDC website (http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_stat...ealth_effects/) and take a look:

"Nonsmokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or at work increase their risk of developing lung cancer by 20–30%."

"Nonsmokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or at work increase their risk of developing heart disease by 25–30%."

The numbers may be lower for dancers since many of us don't work what is normally considered full time. But nonetheless...I'm sweatin' and workin it on stage and all that cardio certainly affects my breathing. I feel like I'm breathing it all in deeper especially when it's busy. So maybe the numbers for increasing a dancers risk of developing lung cancer and heart disease are around 15-20%? Hopefully maybe eating right, hydrating and the physical demands of our job lower that number as well

::sigh:: For a job that offers zero health insurance...I'm truly considering switching to a non smoking club simply over this smoke issue. It's always been a growing concern but now I feel the physical strain its taking on my lung and quite frankly I'm worried.

I have nvr been a smoker & my club also tends to get super smoky. It's probably the nxt reason after the length of my commute to/from work that I rarely work more than 3-4 days a wk. The smell & the accompanying cough are insane, & I easily go thru 4 bottles of water or more a nite (I bring one from home & just top off as I need to) just to keep the cough/hoarseness under control.

This was probably the #1 factor why I stopped dancing. My state doesn't allow smoking indoors, but a lot of good clubs in other states do, and it was really hard on my body- especially my throat. I don't think there was ever a day when I didn't wake up with a sore throat in the morning unless I took a shower before going to sleep. But most of the time I was too tired to shower after the club & before sleeping.

...try a combo golden seal and eyebright tablet for your cough (it will clear up in no time)! Smoke aggravates even the tiniest throat tickle, so it's not a fun environment to work in when you're ill/recovering. As for your skin goes-I would suggest rose hip seed oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, or an avocado oil and honey mask (organic if possible). These are all great for hydrating your skin.

Be careful! Second hand smoke kills just like smoking does. Check this out for additional info http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancerc...condhand-smoke
