So I'm fairly new at pole dancing and every time I do a split grip spin, I have shooting pain up my wrist when I put pressure on my lower hand. Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong, or how to help it?

Switch off your grip alternating your top hand, so you don't overwork one side. Hold your bottom hand with your thumb facing down if you're holding it low, or up if you're holding it high. You'll do a lot less damage to your wrists the straighter you can keep them. You can wrap your hand/wrist(s) when you're not working to keep them aligned right and keep strain off them.
Thank you so much I will give that a try this week and see if it makes a difference.

I got this same pain and had done what Chefkitty said as per my pole instructor said. I ended up with what's called "golfer's elbow" and had to get trigger point therapy and go through physical therapy.
Yes I was doing the moves correctly. But I still got those shooting pains and it HURT. If the pain does t start going away, I suggest stop doing split grip moves. Prevention is the only thing that has kept it from recurring.
