i can't take any hormonal BC, or i can't even get out of bed im so sick..i've heard they have an IUD type thing that's non hormonal..i've been doing spermicide and pull-out for 13 months but i'm wanting something safer..im curious too! they do have low estrogen ortho tri , it still gave me stomach aches, nausea, no sex-drive

I've been on Loestrin and Lo loestrin (which doesn't have a generic, if that matters for your insurance). I took Loestrin a few years ago, and I bled for nearly 2.5 months straight before calling my OB/GYN and telling her I needed a new prescription. I was an emotional wreck during that time too. I took Lo loestrin after my IUD insertion failed in September, and it has made me skip periods for the first time in my life, then get mid-month spotting or heavy breakthrough bleeding, depending on the month. It has also increased the number and intensity of my migraines from one every week or two, to one almost every day, and they get really bad. It killed my appetite and made things smell and taste odd. I thought I was pregnant, which is pretty much my worst fear. Apparently, skipped periods and weird side effects are very common with this pill though. Regardless, I'm switching to Yaz after this month, and my SO is saving for a vasectomy. I'm so ready to stop dealing with birth control pills.

Seasonale is discontinued??? NO!!! Damn it I LOVE my Seasonale!!!!

Please be careful and don't stay on it for too long. I've been on Yaz, Yasmine and Diane and I was so sick. Many girls have serious adverse affects to these pills. There is a whole forum dedicated to keeping ladies away from these brands. I don't want to scare you by listing a bunch of awful symptoms.
To the OP I think Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo(sp?) is a low estrogen brand that I've heard a lot of girls have been happy with. Maybe you want to look into an IUD like Simone said
My experience seems to be completely different from tuesdaymarie. I think it really just depends on the person. I have been on low estrogen birth control for a couple years now and it works very well for me. I can't do a lot of hormones because I get crazy mood swings when I mess with them too much, so it is good in that way. Also, I used to get ovarian cysts and have not had any since I switched to my recent form of birth control. Periods are light and usually last me about 3 days max. I never spot or have breakthrough bleeding. I think it is: Lo ogesteral or something that sounds like that?

^Yeah, I definitely think hormonal birth control is different for everyone. It's crazy how so many women can love a pill, and then you have just as many whose lives it ruined while they were on it, etc. I always want to look up new meds because I'm a control freak about it, but in the end, you really have to try it and see how your body reacts to it. I'm starting to think I'm just not cut out for hormonal BC in general at this point.
I'm hoping to only be on it for 3-6 months. My SO finally has a little bit of extra money, and I think after watching me flip shit and throw things when I got into a "discussion" with an incompetent insurance agent about HPV testing (which is required for a well woman checkup to get my BC prescription renewed, which is supposed to be covered in full by my insurance) being "experimental" since I don't have HPV and therefore not covered, he's ready to move in for the snip.
I was on ortho tri cyclen for a while, and didn't have any major issues. I changed to loestrin after, because I am an idiot.

TRy mircette or marvelon and their generic versions. Switching to low estrogen was great for me less water weight gain and bloated feeling. I found mircette from a few girls recommendations on this site reading really old reviews too. With mircette i stopped getting the horrible mood swings in the beginning of my cycle i was gettong from being on orthocept. I think the mood swings were because orthocept had a muh higher amount of estrogen. And as with all pills try to take them at the same time every day to maximize the effectiveness.
My experience with low estrogen BC was similar to tuesdaymarie's -- nonstop light bleeding for two months.![]()

Every sort of hormonal BC I ever took caused severe side effects with me. Migraines that made me scream, bleeding that caused anemia, and one that even had me break out in hives all over my body. And that last one was supposed to be one that was low hormones. Allergic to spermacide & latex. It's like my body *wants* me to have a baby haha. Luckily, I used a copper IUD and loved it. Slight cramping and spotting the first month, then my period was light (2 days, light spotting) and that was it. Worked well for five years. Unfortunately for me, it became dislodged and I did wind up pregnant - but that was related to complications of me being sick. If it wasn't for that, I'd still have it in and whole heartedly recommend it. It's good for up to 12 years I believe.
Hi! This is totally my first post but I figured I should reply since I actually have info for you. I'm not sure if Seasonale is actually discontinued, but the generic most definitely is not. I'm on it and its called Introvale... so if you want to stay on (essentially) the same pill you still can. As far as lower estrogen birth control goes, I was on lo loestrin for a while and I didn't have terrible side effects. I did have random spotting though so I switched to Seasonale to make sure I was protected
Good luck!
