Default Calling all VETERANS: If you worked before 2008 please inquire!

I been on the forum for about a month now and I been researching to get better insight of the sex industry. I started dancing in early 2010 in Portland, OR where you only need ID and to be 18 years old to dance. There is an abundance of clubs to choose from such as peep shows, fully nude, topless, lingerie modeling, (you name it!) Which totaled to about 50 clubs and adult entertainment in the whole metropolitan area. I felt like that was to slight advantage compared to the southern states (I'm noticing) but I complained about money then and felt I could do more.

As a beginner I made about $200 a night before I learned my own hustle and niche but around the same time the recession dragged out longer than expected and after learning a hustle and picking up regulars I still was only making $200 a night which was decent in my eyes (then). But I would have so many veterans and mature ladies tell me if I just would've started dancing as early as 2008 or even better is 2005 things would be different! I've heard that it all forms of sex industry from escorting to stripping!

Has things really changed? Is there hope of having $500-1000 nights anymore? If so, can it be possible with working 10 hour shifts and only getting VIP's? Is there hope of me bringing in decent money on a consistent bases? ladies let me hear you insight about the biz over the last decade!

NOTE: I am currently in Kentucky and I heard Lexington is where money can be made which is a two hour drive for me and I can only work three days a week. I just want to know if its even worth it anymore or should I get a regular job.

yes 500-1000 is very common. agree with the poster above me. its not hard if you're really hot and in a city and club that's doing well.

Some areas are more lucrative than others, but everywhere is certainly less lucrative than it used to be. All you can do is hone your hustle to ensure that you consistently made good money. There's no sense in comparing how it used to be to how it is now because that won't change anything.

I started in 2007 and was averaging $300 a night in OKC. I made more in major cities in 2011 and 2012. I think you can pull money out of anyone if you try hard enough.

I worked at the Spearmint Rhino in Lexington in October and didn't make shit. Plus, girls were rubbing their naked pussies on the dirty stage. *shudders*

Got to Dallas, NYC, Philly, etc.

I have been on a break since 2009. When I started, I was lucky to make $200 after house fees. The older girls I worked with at the time had been dancers a long time. They told stories of making $500 a night doing table dances for $5/each back in the day before there were private contact dances.
In 2007 I was averaging 300-500 a night strictly selling dances. When I stopped (2009), most of the girls I had been working with were complaining that their earnings had been cut back up to 60% since 2 years before.
It's a cycle, the cashflow goes up and down. I sure it's better than that when I go back in February

Thanks for your input, I totally agree with cash flow going up and down. Last time I really danced was summer of 2011 and by then I was over it! But I do want to return and I figured a new town and new face can play to my advantage!

Ehh, there is really no point talking about what it was like before and what it might be like in the future. Best to focus on your hustle skills and finding where you make money now. It does go in cycles just like the economy - even if the overall tendency has been downward since the 90s. LOL

Don't listen to chics talking about how it used to be or how much things suck now. Focus on maximizing your earnings NOW.

I agree. And the economy will never be like it was. Why? Because now everyone has the opportunity to go to school, intern, and get network in order to get the job they want. Sadly, in years past, your income bracket played a huge part in if you could attend school or not. The internet did not exist... at least not optimally, in order to supply information on how to obtain your career of choice. These days, schools (and loan companies) prey on those in lower income brackets. So basically now everyone is competing for the same jobs, only a large chunk of those people have massive loan debt and a smaller chunk do not have any debt at all. So the competition for all jobs (especially good-paying ones like dancing in order to pay for school/loans) is just too fierce for the economy to return to booming mid-90s-early-00s status for every single person. Too much supply these days, and not enough demand.

Though this is off topic, what I do think will happen in the future is the growth of entrepreneurship and small businesses strengthening the economy. People relying on other people rather than on greedy monopolistic child-labored businesses to buy products they need. People will start opening their own businesses offering skills they are talented at, and products others will need. I say this because this is what I have seen in major cities for the last years, and these major cities tend to be the first to pick up on trends. Or maybe I'm delusional and its wishful thinking, take your pick.

The only way you will consistently make that kind of money as a dancer these days is if you travel or move to specific areas to work when its "season" in that area. Move to an area where your body type & overall look is prized in clubs, and the work a lot. That's all you can do.

I started dancing during the rise of the tech boom in the mid-90's . You really don't want to know how much thing have gone 'downhill' in the exotic dancing industry from that point forward.

But even today, there still isn't any other legal occupation that can provide the same earnings potential as exotic dancing !!! Well, that's true if you accurately count the 'cost' of devoting 4+ years to obtaining a college degree instead of earning maximum money by serious, full time dancing during those same 4+ years instead, plus accurately counting the 'cost' of tuition / student loan repayment etc.

There is money to be made but keep in mind that the sheer numbers of what can pass for a stripper has grown. Clubs used to have high standards back in the so called "glory days" but now any little fat ass doughball with a vagina, wal mart bra and panty set and church shoes can be a stripper. Being hot matters, but you have to be on top of your hustle.

The bottom dwellers are a bit of a nuisance, but there is no getting rid of them. They are a fixed part of the strip club ecosystem.

A conversation I just had with my boyfriend:
Me: "Back then in the 90's you had to be HOT. I heard they would put you on a scale and weigh you. If you were even a tenth of an ounce overweight they'd put your ass on the fatty list."
Boyfriend: "Well that scale must be broken with all the fat bitches they have stripping today. I'd take skinny chick with bad 90's hair ANY day"
