    Default Dancers of color....

    Hello all.

I've been lurking this site for several years and I am a retired entertainer. I've read many posts on this site pertaining to the perception of black women and have noticed that this site really does ostracize black entertainers. The blatant racial undertones are veiled yet very prominent.

I'm considering beginning a website for strippers of color where the true feelings of the black stripper isn't swept under the rug, overlooked nor would they have to face getting banned for expressing their experiences.

Surely, none of you will feel slighted by this as it's common knowledge that the black stripper's struggles aren't like others.

Just to be clear, I've worked ten years in this industry in the states as well as overseas and I'm certain the black women who are members of this site would appreciate a forum that gives them more respect than what I've seen on this site over the last five years.

I felt compelled to respond to a post regarding WI clubs where a poster made certain to imply that IF a stripper is black that she NEEDS to be EXTREMELY beautiful and professional as if black strippers are anything but. That's offensive as well as other posts I've read on this site and frankly, the black women on this site just swallow the digs and overlook those instances. I've only seen one post from a former moderator I've worked with who is black stood her ground.

Anyway, this is a nice site, however, it's been beyond clear that black strippers are stifled. I hope to change that soon.

    Thank you for reading.

I don't think the poster of that meant it quite that way..I think she just meant it would be harder for a woman of color to get hired at a certain type of club? SC's aren't exactly hotbeds of 'equal opportunity'.. I haven't read them, but I do see many support threads for women of color on this forum.

^ i second that whirlez.. i know i'd rather have the sometimes harsh truths then be lead on for fear of being offended..we're all women, we're all in this industry, why can't we all just come together, support each other and get along?

I read the thread and I can see what the poster was trying to say. Unfortunately, there's some truth to what she wrote, but i also agree that all of our struggles are different might not be a bad idea...

One time I was working at this shithole in the Philly 'burbs. It was time for me to leave but the manager came up to me and said "Can you please stay? We don't want the customers to leave because they only see one type of girl here". I looked around and noticed that it was mostly black girls (of varying skin tones and body types. 2 could have passed for Italian, one was paler than ME!) I got annoyed and said "You mean you think there are too many black girls and you think the customers will hit the ground running if they see that?" -_- Dead silence. I left. And incidentally customers didn't leave. It was old farts that dropped $$$$.

Unfortunately racism does exist in this business whether it's directed towards black, white, Spanish, Asian, green, whatever.

+1. It's not so much fellow dancers on here making digs at black dancers as they are trying to paint an accurate picture of what the black dancer can expect when trying to get hired in certain clubs. It's a sad fact that some clubs won't hire black girls unless they're hot as sin, and even then they have quotas on how many black girls they'll hire. Isn't it better for black dancers to know that? The response is in the same vein as when bigger girls ask about hiring, and other girls chime in with saying that they can only work day shift at club x or straight up won't get hired at club y. It's not meant to be offensive or insulting, it's just how those clubs work. THAT is the offensive part, but again, it's useful information for those dancers to know.

While I agree that black dancers face obstacles that white dancers simply don't face (that is an undeniable truth) I don't necessarily see many girls on here being disrespectful towards black dancers... if they say it's hard for black dancers to get hired somewhere, it's probably true.

As far as you saying, "a poster made certain to imply that 'IF a stripper is black that she NEEDS to be EXTREMELY beautiful and professional' as if black strippers are anything but."

That's not implying that all black dancers are not beautiful or professional. Some are, some are not. Just like dancers of any race, it varies. However, (and I've said this repeatedly on these forums) if a black girl wants to get hired at an upscale, predominantly white club, she IS going to have to be very beautiful and professional, sometimes more-so than the "average" black dancer because she already faces the societal "disadvantage" of being black. And I mean this in no offense. Is it fair? No. Is it the truth? Yes. I have even gone so far as to say that to get hired at the high-end white clubs the black dancer must also be slender. She will have a small chance at getting hired if she's a thick girl because a lot of the high-end white clubs prefer slender dancers. That is just the way it is. It is extremely unfair, but it's business: if there is a club in which the clientele doesn't particularly prefer black women, obviously the demand for black women is not going to be high; if you have a bunch of black women in one club where there is not as much of a demand for them, it would create a surplus and the black dancers won't make much money. I've danced at many of the predominantly white clubs in the Detroit area and right now that is the problem: MANY black dancers are being turned away, and a lot of the ones working now aren't making much money (with the exception of a few, which happen to be the most beautiful and articulate ones).

Before anyone goes nuts and calls this a racist post, I'm not meaning it offensively in any way. I'm mixed myself (3/8 black to be as precise as possible), so yes, it does anger me. I personally don't really have to deal with it because people in strip clubs don't view me as "black," in fact I get asked if I'm Indian, Middle Eastern, and Italian way more than I get asked if I'm part black. My two best friends are strippers as well; one is black and dark skinned and on the thicker side. She has a very hard time getting hired at a lot of the clubs I work at.

It's wrong, it's upsetting but it's the way it is. In a perfect world, race wouldn't matter. But sadly it does.

Not sure what posts you've been reading for the last 2 years but maybe I'm missing something? I've never felt any racial inequality on SW at all, in fact, I've only felt love, appreciation, and respect here. Perhaps maybe it's just in the clubs? This site? I haven't seen it. I have heard that strippers of color face a different atmosphere within club life because the demand is more in the favor of white women. This doesn't surprise me since western civilization holds white women in such high regards. Why? I don't get it but that's just how it is. I find women to be beautiful period and I don't think any particular woman should hold the title of most attractive but that's how things are for now. That's the way things have been but they are changing.

I personally consider myself to be a very attractive woman of color and doors have always opened for me and I happen to be a larger woman at that. I personally haven't felt the wrath of the "color ban" at clubs because I don't strip but I've heard of it. I also know I wouldn't be accepted at the strip clubs because most of them also don't accept BBW. I do occasionally fantasize that if I did lose weight that I would be accepted with no problem lol. I hate that things are like that but I also know that they are going on demand. Surely if the black woman was on the pedestal instead of the white woman, things would be different as clubs would only have 1-2 white women. Please know that you are not alone. Black women are not the only women looked over for work. Asian, Hispanic, fat, etc, they get the stick too with the "Oh, we already have an Asian girl...try X across the street..." I think that once women start taking back their true places in the industry instead of a man, things will change. They are the ones setting the standards and have been for years. It's just extremely hard to erase hundreds of years of mind control and brain washing. Have you ever considered web camming? I've had only positive experience so far and my statistics and personal life tell me that me being black and big has never been an issue of attraction. I can't tell you how many men of different backgrounds have pursued me and spent money on me and millions of other women of color. Standards are always being broken. Please know that SW isn't to blame, the race issue is much deeper than SW.

I agreed with your entire post, but this stuck out the most; completely true.

    Paulap,

I am the original poster that set u on your quest. I did not mean my post to offend anybody, just meant exactly what several of the posters here explained. I do not appreciate you quoting me grossly out of context. I do not think black dancers are unattractive or unprofessional. But I do think that your feelings about sw are valid and perhaps you should pursue more dialogue within this site to educate all. How many times have you learned something new/unexpected from randomly reading through sw posts, I always do!

You're not going to please everyone no matter what you do. This goes for dancers of any size shape or race. Some customers may complain you're "too black". Others will complain you're not "black enough". I've seen this happen in both instances with my black friends. All you can do is go to an audition prepared like you would at any club: Looking your best inside and out. Not all clubs are going to hire you. Even at my present 104llbs and 32DDD boobs I've been turned down.

Paulap, you definitely have a point. I've been a member of this site long enough to see what it is you mean and what you read in that thread is nothing compared to what has been written on her by other members. I want to say that SW is a great site despite all that and mostly all are very helpful when giving advice.

Quite a few former members have started a few sites ( I can recall 5 different ones over the years) geared to dancers of color- there was/is even a private group on here with that purpose. I certainly wouldn't discourage you from starting one, but from what I have seen, there just aren't enough of us to keep it ongoing. It starts off very well, but as people stop dancing, move on with other things, etc.....the participation dies down. I think about all the different clubs I've worked at, and many of the dancers there, even if they knew of a website would not join for one reason or another. When it was brought up, they had a feeling of "the game is to be sold, not told". Which is a very lame argument in my opinion.

Do what you want but I wouldn't dream of making an all white girl board and I fail to see the need for a board aimed at dancers of color. We're all in this together. We ALL get insulted from time to time. We all have similar feelings. Don't ostricize yourself.

I don't think this site ostracizes black dancers at all.. I think it's been very helpful and it seems a majority of the people here have been kind while being honest about how black dancers are perceived, when black dancers inquire. Occasionally there will be a girl that has said something which made me kind of side eye, reading, lol, but that's life; whatever. I believe though if you have a certain personality and confidence it probably doesn't matter, yes there will be the racist but you shouldn't see yourself as a 'black dancer', I don't.. I see myself as Roxie on a mission, **** all the other nonsense; and how you see yourself is how others will see you.
