Sad Hurt my upper back on stage..

I was "booty poppin" and when I came up from the position, my (upper) back tensed up and It about knocked the wind out of me. Has this ever happened to any of you? And if so, how did you handle it? Thanks! I'm in pain and could use another dancers opinion!

use a heating pad, and if you can a chiropractic appointment, otherwise you could really hurt yourself in the future.

I second the heating pad and chiropractic appointment idea... my mom used to be a dancer, and when she found out I dance she highly recommended that I see a chiropractor once a month. However, I didn't follow her advice (I kinda have an aversion to strangers touching me so things like chiropactors, massages, etc just aren't my thing) but NOW I realize I need to start seeing one. Something similar happened to me with my back a couple weeks ago. It didn't happen right away like yours did, but from overexertion at work coupled with having to lug my heavy backpack around to and from school, I woke up one morning with terrible back pain, mostly in my middle and upper back. It hurt so bad I didn't work for a week. After several days of the back pain it dawned on me that I should invest in a heating pad, so I bought one from CVS. I almost cried when I started using it because it eased my pain so well. I used the heating pad for several hours a day and within a few days of that, I was able to return to work! Now my back is all better for the most part, aside from general minor aches that accompany my rigorous schedule.

Hope you feel better - defenitely get a heating pad! You'll feel a lot better!
