Default I'm running out of food ideas that won't kill me or make me fat.

My biggest issue is that I am hypoglycemic. I have to eat quite often, otherwise my blood sugar will plummet and I will become shaky, have blurred vision, and, in extreme cases, it can lead to passing out and coma. It's difficult enough to have the time to eat every two hours or so in the morning and early afternoon, but it is even more difficult to find foods that are easily accessible and won't make me gain 15lbs a meal.

My choices are further limited by the fact that I have oral food allergy syndrome, which, essentially, is an allergy to most uncooked or unfrozen fruits, veggies, and nuts caused by extreme pollen allergies and the exposure of those foods to said pollens. I can have most raw berries, but any other raw fruit will cause my throat and lips to itch and swell to varying degrees. Raw veggies are mostly a no, though I seem to have no issue with leafy greens so far. Raw nuts usually aren't as bad, but some are worse than others. I can have some pecans right now, for example, but I have to drink milk or something with them, because even though I'm only mildly irritated by them, if residue stays in my throat... well, yeah... possible eventual swelling, restricted breathing, death, blahblahblah.

At this point, I'm basically living off Rice Chex with almond milk (did I forget to mention I'm sensitive, but not intolerant, to gluten and dairy in large/frequent quantities?) and meats, as I recently had to give up vegetarianism. I've given up soda and hardly drink alcohol or coffee anymore, as they all worsen hypoglycemia. My dairy right now is usually plain Greek yogurt and sometimes an individual thing of milk if I'm on campus and I feel shaky, plus cheese added to some things. I feel best when I have a whole grain bread-based meal, like a whole grain bagel, or whole grain pasta with chicken and veggies, but I'm afraid this will make me gain weight in the long run.

I know this pretty much makes me the neediest eater ever, but if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. I'm thinking of maybe preparing salads in small containers. Something like spinach, boiled eggs, chicken or turkey, but idk what kind of dressing to put on it. Are there any cereal/protein bars or something like that that aren't fake-healthy sugar bars that I can keep in my bag so I don't die? Oh, and, uh, those can't have milk chocolate, because that shit gives me migraines. Fuck my body.

Wow, that's rough! I know in Whole Foods they've lots of different food magazines, even more than the book stores. Can you see a dietcian maybe?

^I've been thinking of making a trip to the nearest Whole Foods. I wanted to get a list of what to buy beforehand though, as it'll be a 30-45 minute drive (without traffic, hopefully). I'm pretty broke at the moment and going through a "Hey you might have MS" thing, so I've put seeing an endocrinologist off in favor of a neurologist, and dietician is even further behind, unfortunately.

I like dried cranberries, sliced almonds, and raspberry vinegarette dressing. Sometimes tomato basil vinaigrette. Kroger generic brand is good for the tomato dressing. Kraft makes the raspberry vinagarette. They also have the oriental dressing that is also good on spinach salad. I only eat spinach salads and these are my favorite dressings. I am very petite and eat them every day for past few years except weekends.lol. Very flavorful and good with spinach. Dole makes a pre-made packaged salad where you just mix it up and has the raspberry vinaigrette, bleu chesse crumbles, almonds etc. lowfat and get couple meals out of it. You could also add chicken or something to spinach salad instead of the egg. I don't put hard boiled egg in my salads very often, I hold out and have as snack and toss yolks. some days I buy a canned Mexican corn with beans ,(I think brand is freshlike or delmonte or something) add half can to my pinach salad, a handful of crushed tortilla ships and lowfat southwest dressing and omg delicious. the beans in the canned vegtables provide the protein and curbs my Mexican food craving. You could even add salsa, but it realy don't need it.

You can make your own beef jerky in the oven, use good quality meat and that way you can control how much salt is used. Also try kale chips, nori (dried seaweed), almonds if you can, avocado if you're at home,.. basically I try to eat lots of protein and fat because they help maintain my blood sugar, help me stay full, and fat especially is vital for organ function.
Oh another thing I like to keep on hand at home is the Tyson frozen chicken breast strips. Easy snack, you just microwave them and dip in ketchup, salad dressing, whatever.

I eat rice cakes when im trying to lose weight. I eat a lot of rice when Im at home cuz I also dont like eating a ton of gluten and rice is so easy and cheap. If youre trying to pack lunches and watching gluten but not allergic to it Id say just use tortillas instead of bread because all the gluten free bread Ive ever come across is nasty and way over priced. You can also get whole wheat or corn tortillas. Im the granola bar queen... the trail mix ones are my favorite but I cant say anything as to how healthy they are. Theyre cheap tho. Luna bars are pretty healthy with lots of vitamins and no milk or wheat but theyre more expensive. Can you eat apple chips? What about sweet potato chips or veggie chips. Ive seen those for cheap and theyre better than regular chips. Also what about fruit cups like mandarin oranges, pineapples, etc. Or apple sauce since its somewhat processed?

Oh, and can you have bananas? I think I read somewhere they are actually a berry so i hope so. They cant be beat when it comes to healthy, cheap, and easy to take anywhere. Also you could make your own chex mix using the rice or corn chex with whatever else you wanna put in it...

If you have to eat frequently then I'd suggest making kale chips (leafy greens), they are a great crispy and nutritious snack that take almost no time to prepare . Making veggie chips at home could be good too-if you can have dehydrated veggies . You can either make them in a dehydrator, or in the oven using a little oil (of choice)/sea salt.

Also, if you can eat leafy greens-Chinese cabbage/bock choy, choy sum etc is low fat, great stir fried with a little oil (you can substitute this for water if you want) soy sauce /garlic/chilli etc and eaten with rice or rice noodles (or any stable you can have).

I have a lot of food allergies too, it can be boring and frustrating-but don't let it get you down, do your research, get creative and even see someone (if you haven't already. They might suggest safe meal plans or supplements to ease your symptons). Hang in there

Re: fruit ideas-- I lovelovelove fruit. Unfortunately, even the natural sugars in fruit exacerbate my hypoglycemia. I snack on grapes and citrus fruits when I'm at home and can easily respond to any fluctuations in my blood sugar, but eating them on-the-go is out of the question. I used to eat a banana with an individual thing of milk on campus for my morning snack, but apparently bananas are some of the worst fruits you can eat if you're hypoglycemic--go figure. Anything that has a lot of simple carbs easily converts to sugar, so those foods also spike my blood sugar and lead to crashing within an hour. I'm not sure how rice fits in with that. I know brown rice is "better," but I don't know if it would be any good for my needs..?

I do make kale chips sometimes, and they're great to snack on. I've never been able to make them stay crispy for an extended period of time though... I'll have to try to tweak my preparation or something...

Have you ever tried quinoa? It is kind of like couscous but it is lots of tiny seeds, so it is gluten-free. I have been on a huge quinoa kick lately and I like to eat it for breakfast and lunch every day. If you have a Fresh and Easy grocery store near you, they sell pre-packaged cooked quinoa that you just microwave for 30 seconds, but it is kind of expensive at $1.50 a pop. I started just buying quinoa in bulk and making large batches at home and that will last me 5 days or so. It doesn't have a lot of flavor on its own, but I like to mix in a little hummus or a little Asian chili sauce and it's delicious and pretty low calorie. Maybe you can try picking some up on your Whole Foods field trip, they will definitely have it! (If you do decide to try making it yourself, make sure you either buy the pre-washed kind or make sure you rinse it really well yourself before cooking or you will be sorry!)

^I found some at WalMart once after several posters on here recommended it, but I wasn't sure if it was worth buying: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ancient-Ha...of-12/17243120. It's $62 for 12 packs. Would Whole Foods probably have better choices?

I second quinoa! It's SO versatile!I used to make this for my boyfriend-wasn't my taste but was his http://vegweb.com/recipes/quinoa-porridge and also can use it as a starch but also a protein element of a meal, too. It's brilliant stuff.
Pricing is weird though-in some places near me it's £3 (about $6) and others it's less than half that price. Shop around and good luck!

It is a good website, that. I am quite a good cook but have learned through trial and error, not following recipes however I've got a lot of IDEAS for recipes using that.

    how's your dietary stuff going?
Found this as I was looking for tips on migraines. My boyfriend responds well to botox for his migraines but I have to save up since we moved to a place where his health insurance provider in the area won't provide it.

anyway, I was reading through this and though of making adult baby food. Sometimes when I'd be starving at a place I've lived previously, I'd have little squeeze packets of organic baby food because they were tasty, portable, and didn't have a lot of calories.

You could make your own by cooking veggies or fruits and condensing it down to whatever texture you want, be it pureed or chunky or still relatively whole.

And if you feel bereft of crunchy texture, something like rice cakes for crunch or perhaps something else?

do you have any dairy farms near you that sell raw milk? You might want to try that because a lot of people who are lactose intolerant are responding to pasteurized milk. There's an enzyme in raw milk that partners up with lactose and makes it easy to digest. I actually love raw milk and have done a raw milk only diet for maybe 8 days (can't remember if it was a week or ten days-- somewhere around that.)

I wonder if ppl with many allergies ever tried to detox their gut system and a body in general. Cuz over grow of patogenic bacteria can give you "allergies" to foods.
For migrains helps apple cider vinegar, you can take it with a juice 1 tb spoon. Also i would recomend to wash a nose with saline solution and 1 droop of iodum.
I always have headaches with the weather is change and a sinus, and sometimes low blood pressure. I before i didnt know that i have a sinus pressure i thought this is a migrain.hehe
Also i have a bad vision and i thought that this is ok that everyhting is blurry around and this fact gave me dry eyes and headaches too.

I dont know where did you read that, but totaly wrong. 90% of ppl do not tolerate a lactose. Lactose this is a sugar and nothing good in that. But Fermented milk-yes, better absorb and actually has enzymes and probiotics, which is eathing lactose and producing enzymes.
