Default Looking for mentor in Houston.

I know im probly reachin' pretty far here, but I am looking for a mentor in the Houston area to show me the ropes and help get my feet wet.

I know I just need to jump in. Ive been wanting to do this for years... but I keep letting thoughts take control and I talk myself out if it..

"I've heard" that the girls in the clubs arent particularly nice to the new rookies coming in. I dont want that to get to me, and I want to go in there as confident as possible.
And "ive heard" that the veterans wont help u out bc u are their competition.

If I dont know what the hell im doing, i forsee myself getting real discouraged toward the begining and want to quit...which I dont want that to happen...im not a quitter.

If anyone is generous enough to show me around that would be great.

Im even too embarrased to walk in a club and check it out by myself. ..is there a cover charge for girls?

Thanks everyone for being so kind.

Some clubs don't have a cover charge for ladies on certain nights, but you may have to be with a male companion. I've never been to an SC as a patron, so I'm not too familiar with the rules.

I'd like to say it's not so much that Houston girls aren't nice and it's just the nature of the industry/the fact that new girls come and go so much, but I do think it's worse here than the average, primarily because of the rampant extras and the culture that has been built around those "commodities."

Frankly, I can think of several more experienced and informed Houston girls on this board above myself. I'm about to undergo surgery, so I won't be working till April anyway. If you can't find anyone else and you want to grab coffee sometime, talk about the clubs, and, you know, not turn out to be a 275lb man who wants to rape/sell me, that would be fine. A girl on here talked to me before my first week, and it gave me some idea of what to expect, at least.

What side of the city are you on, and do you have a club in mind?

Where are you planning on working performer? Getting hired somewhere nicer might be less of a shock to you. I have worked a few nights in Houston and it is clear from the moment you walk in that extras happen. More so clear from seeing/meeting the clients. I am going to start working a day or two a week. Can you believe that dancing is my decoy job?!

    Strippername,
I dont even have a clue where I plan on working.. I JUST moved to Houston. I always wated to do this back home..but too small of a city and EVERYONE would find out..and my mom would kill me!

I fugured I just moved to a new city, no one knows me here, so why not..?

I guess I need to go in to the clubs and check them out, but im do darn nervous about it, ha, not to soud so square, but ive never been to one before... I have no idea what to expect. I feel like ill stick out like a sore thumb and everyone will stare at me, like, "What is that girl doing walking in here by herself?..wierd."

Im dieting and working out now so I can get in shape... I want to audition in July.
(Why the wait? Why July? ...I have a big girl job im applying for and will find out in July if they hire me...I dont want to ruin my chances of getting that great job if they were to find out I work at a SC.
And THEN I will do my audion... (want to make sure I get hired for mybig girl job first)

Ok..just to let you know being a stripper is a "big girl job". It is best to say "vanilla" job if you are going to say things like that.

You won't stick out like a sore thumb. Some clubs may not let you in but just tell them you are checking it out because you want to work there. You don't REALLY need pole lessons or anything. You will learn as you go. What you do need is a good pair of dance shoes and at least one outfit that is to Houstons rules. Full bum covered I think? Latex too but you buy that at the club for a few dollars.

I did not mean to offend u or anyone else by saying big girl job... thats just my personal phrase I use for "corporate america job"...where I have to wear a suit and crap. ..which I hate.

I am well aware that stripping is a REAL job where people pay taxes andbackgroundt think it is any less or beneath any other job. ..or else I wouldnt be eager to do it and audition.

I was a manager at the number one sales and marketing company in the US (and the world I think)... as I understand stripping/exotic dancing/dancer , whatever u want to call it, is a tough job with extensive sales experience needed, which i belive i have with my background. I understand it IS a big girl job... im sorry if I stepped on anybodys toes.

You didn't step on mine but say that in the club and someone might actually step on yours. You can easily have a "paper trail". Just because you plan on being clean doesn't mean the girls around you will. Clubs get raided all the time. You can get ticketed for something pretty simple and their is your trail. You have to know these risks and be prepared for them. So far it seems that your head is in the clouds a little bit. Try some amateur nights.

You might consider limiting your possibilities to the unincorporated portions of the county.

I'm on the south side too. Strippername is right to warn you about the paper trail. Houston is notorious for cracking down on dancers (google the recent Treasures fiasco) for both legitimate and bullshit reasons. You could easily get an SOB violation and have your real name and photo put on news sites, and many people don't realize that that could mean something as stupid as coming within three feet of a customer or, really, touching another dancer and having an officer claim it was sexual/intentional. As slowpoke suggests, staying in clubs that have not been incorporated within city limits may put you more at ease.

If you hover over my name, you can select to PM me if you want.
