Default So what constitutes a dive bar?

I went in to interview/audition at a club in Richmond, VA today and the manager immediately told me I'm "not what they're looking for". I asked him to be more specific [I'm good at being thick skinned] and he told me that I have a very pretty face but they are looking for taller, slimmer, and "toned-er".

I am 5'6" and 160 pounds and am working on losing it; I am well proportioned and can move well but I am a bit flabby. I have already lost 10 pounds in the last month and am planning on losing more. For the meantime, I would not mind working at a divier bar but I don't know how to find one!

Why go straight to a dive bar? Try another nicer club! (Assuming there is one, I'm not too familiar with Richmond). Sometimes clubs are more open to having more diversity of dancers during day/mid-shifts, so that might be an option if it works with your schedule. Some clubs also let you start out waitressing and then transition to dancing.

some girls do really well at dive bars ( as long as its not dangerous/or super nasty)..weird but true! i would try both, they can't be too hard to find. in my experience it takes awhile to find the right club for you because every girl is different..i would definitely tone up and get as healthy as possible but look around and find a good fit for you right now. heavier girls do great in some places, a lot of guys love them

Thanks! I went to one place that seemed kind of divey that said they would hire me but I'd like to browse the other places first.

Most cities (except for Portland, Vegas, NYC, Toronto, etc.) don't have an overwhelming amount of clubs, so it might be worth checking out all the clubs, and working a couple of shifts in each to see which works best for you.

Is it easy to just come and go like that? Like work a weekend at one place, leave and then come back a couple of weeks later? (Forgive the ignorance. )

Depends on the clubs. I've never worked at clubs that had contracts stipulating you could only work for them, but that does happen sometimes. Other clubs make it tricky with a high number of minimum shifts per week, but even then you could theoretically go back and forth in different weeks. Personally, I've always liked working in 2 clubs at a time because certain shifts are better in one over the other, and it just gives me a change of scenery.

A dive is when it's so dead you can bring in your pet alligator to visit and everyone takes turns feeding him leftover Chinese takeout to pass the time. (don't ask)

Haha, T! You know, I think there's a thread in Stripping, "You know you're working in a Dive when.." http://http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?132602-You-know-your-working-in-a-dive-if&highlight=dive

My experience w/dives: The smaller the club=the bigger the bullshit and drama. When I worked at Suzy's Lounge omg! Total Drama Island.
