Default CISPA is back. Camgirls, this effects YOU. You need to protect your privacy.

I am not trying to make this a political thread. But please read about CISPA and decide for yourself. This has the possibility to effect YOU and YOUR income.

Mods: Please leave this thread up, I am not trying to talk politics. This is relevant information that cam girls need to know about. If you need to edit some things around that's fine but I think it's very important that cam girls have access to this information and can then decide for themselves, but they need to know it exists first or else they can't make an informed decision. Thank you.

Edited to add: This is more about censorship than privacy. Please research. I will try to add more info but I don't want to get this thread closed or deleted by being political.

I'm thinking about making a cute crop top with CISPA in a circle with a line through it (you know what I'm talking about) to wear while I work.

So basically this is SOPA part II with a sneaky new name and more mumbo jumbo text so you think its not SOPA?

I thought the government could already look at your browsing history? I guess the difference is, if this passes, they will be *legally* allowed to do it and therefore can pursue legal action and otherwise on things they do not like. I guess the government has a plan for this, obviously they wouldn't be pushing so hard. What are they trying to do? They can already see our browsing history? Do they want to sell our personal data to companies for a profit? Are there a fuckton of cyber criminals they have caught but can't actually pursue due to a violation of the 5th amendment? Are extra terrestrials trying to contact us through the internet and they want to intercept? Does the US gov want to start blocking search engine results as they see fit (actually I heard they already do this). I just don't get the point? But that, in itself, is probably the point lol.

I don't see how this could hurt a cam girl. I'm not for it, but I don't think camming has anything to do with it. Its just like a neutral thing. Obviously anyone who goes into this line of work thinking its anonymous is totally delusional (*ahem* I just watched a new segment where they used facial recognition software at a football game and found 10 criminals just by them walking into the stadium) and will probably find that out that hard way, but I don't see how this could really affect us.

Unless you're a criminal on the run who has decided to opt for camming in order to make an income, you should be fine. I also don't see this passing, because who would opt for this? I guess Republicans like it though, for some odd reason, judging by the votes on the wikipedia page.

"You should be very mad and very afraid because CISPA is far worse than SOPA and PIPA in its effects on the internet. The wording of this bill is mumbo jumbo, vague and broad. Reading through the nonsense, basically the act would allow Congress to circumvent existing exemptions to online privacy laws, and would allow the monitoring and censorship of any user of the internet. Peeping Toms will be wetting their pants. The real kicker (in our asses) is that it will also allow the government to stop online communications which they deem critical or disruptive to them. They can even decide they don’t like what you say about other private parties and shut you down." -Source

The main issue regarding cam girls is censorship, not privacy.

If cam girls and cam companies are censored because of things like: minors seeing shows, bestiality, etc. the entire website can be SHUT DOWN by the government because of one performer.

I doubt that would happen to anything owned by Manwin because its a zillionmagillion dollar industry. But I guess it could actually affect campaigns against the stigma of the adult industry. But then, I'm neutral on that too. Sexwork either becomes accepted and everyone starts doing it (similar to what has already happened to dancing in the last 10 years) so there is far less money in it, or it stays stigmatized and money remains because its ~*taboo*~ so guys continue to spend.

I hope that it won't. The issue is the bill is worded so open ended and left for interpretation that there's really no way of knowing for sure.

Do I prefer sex work to be stigmatized? Yes, because it makes me more money. However, if guys can't access it then there is no possibility to keep making money because you have no audience.
