    Default Win32/Small.CA Virus - Help!

So I have had this notification that I have this virus and I have researched and research and am confused.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed - says I have the virus. I did a Malwarebytes scan - nothing.

I even revealed all my hidden folders so I could manually remove the virus, but the names that I was told the files would be weren't there.

I was quoted it would be $150 to remove it professionally - bullshit!

I read that sometimes there can be a false positive, how would I know if this is the case? I'm thinking this is possible because I couldn't find the files.

Any advice or relevant links to help me figure this out would be much appreciated!

Use system restore to the last date you are sure you didnt have the virus. System restore will erase any program installed up to the day you are restoring, everything else will remain there. I always do that. If the virus took your admin powers you may not be able to use syst. restore, but lets hope you can do it for now

Do not run system restore! System restore won't get rid of viruses that are really in there.
Here is an article on fixing that virus: http://forums.whatthetech.com/index....owtopic=125101

I would recommend downloading Hitman Pro (free version) and TDSSKiller as the virus may be blocking Malware Bytes. Boot in to Safe Mode (no networking by default, but if you need internet boot safe mode with networking) THEN run Hitman Pro, Malware Bytes, and follow it up with TDSSKiller. Run them one at a time. If any say you need to reboot to fully remove the virus, reboot right then. Do not close it, do not say you will reboot later. This is very important. Run TDSSKiller again after the reboot. If it comes up clean, you're all set. MSE may have deleted the virus for you, but it is best to run all the scans just in case. (PS: You must run them in safe mode for max effectiveness)

PS: If you don't know how to boot in safemode you hit f8 on the bios loading screen during the boot up.

I have avast and I ocassionally do a boot scan )it scans my computer when it's booting up before windows starts) I caught and got rid of 4 trojans like that when avast wouldn't detect it with a full system scan when windows was running.
