Not to mention you are a woman. God knows what could happen with some random ass pest control guy in your apartment come unnoticed? Will the landlord be held accountable and liable for that? No shit!

The pest control guy is most likely part of the maintenance staff at the complex, not an outside contractor.
Lesson: always put your cam stuff away when you finish, keep the chain/bolt on your door when you're home, and don't answer the door to random people when you're working. People don't need to know what you do in your home whether it's rented or not (what they don't know won't hurt them OR YOU). You may not be allowed to run a business in your rented home and you may not be technically allowed to do porn (camming is porn whether we like to admit it or not) in your rented home, but as long as you don't let people know, it doesn't matter.
Sorry this is happening girlie, but it might just be a sign that you need to rent a better place where you have more privacy. I hate apartment complexes because you basically have no privacy. I would rent a house if at all possible.
As for raising a stink about the apartment manager's indiscretion in the office, I would NOT do that. That will only cause her to react with more vengeance and you do not need that. I am all for people standing up for themselves, but in this case, you're clearly in violation of the lease so trying to get at her for embarrassing you in front of other people isn't going to help matters.
I would put my game face on, and be prepared to deflect her questions with answers that admit to nothing and say you had just been cybering with your boyfriend who's in Australia for study abroad or something, and then you could throw in that you don't appreciate the staff gossipping and making wild accusations about you in front of other people.

God damn it, what if you were taking a shower or just like to be naked on your own place? These guys just come in like if the were family???
I can't believe it, there is no respect.
It gets me mad and Im not the one going through it![]()
I hope you get your apologies! You deserve apologies!!

The manager or staff is still required to give a 24 hour notice before entry though. But if you opened the door for him (I'm not sure if you did?) then I don't think it matters.
i know for sure, they didnt leave me any notice at the door, and thats why i was not prepared. Well, tomorrow i will act like a good girl, and i will talk to them nicely, i wont raise my voice or anything like that. I will be prepared. Yesterday the guy that had my keys first knocked on my door and i didnt open the door for him, he thought ok she is not at home and tried to unlocked the door, but since i was at home i locked my door with 2 locks so even tho he had a keys he couldnt open, i told him thru the window not to come without any notification !!! well yes Its so crazy cause if i wasnt there he would have came in ..... yea what if i was naked and didnt hear someone coming in, I live by myself and yes it is scary, He was a apartments complex stuff guy!!! I will tell them that i am away from my boyfriend since 1 year cause he studies abroad... and i chat with him on skype... i will be ready tomorrow if they want to search my apt as well, i put away all my toys to my cars trunk!!!! thanks everyone talk to your tomorrow

I just read this now, that's terrible, so sorry this happened! Good luck let us know what happened. I know nolo.com has some landlord/tenant info. Take care, hugs

You're not running a business out of your house. That would be having customers in and out of your apartment for business purposes. F(L)uck them, nosey ass people. Dont allow them to judge you, walk in there anytime you need something done in your unit, let them know and then walk out. " Are you shooting porn?", Mind your damn business. You should have told them, I do not run a business out of my home, and what I do in private is not up for questioning. If they came in there and saw a meth lab or you was bagging up some suspicious material, I could see that a s illegal. Let them know, that you have not broken any agreement with the management company. They're acting like you opened up a strip club or something. My suggestion is that if you feel it would benefit you more to rent a house, do it. If you believe that leaving that particular apartment complex and moving elsewhere is better, than start fresh and be more descrete next time. Ask them to give you a few minutes to get dressed. You dont have to say, you're putting your dildos up, lol. Everything happens for a reason.
Scary scary scary, I really hope everything works out okay for you!
And yes, they are definitely required to give you advance notice if they are sending anyone to your apartment for maintenance or pest control unless it is an emergency situation. A few months ago I was in the shower and I thought I heard a noise, I had just gotten out of the shower and was wrapping a towel around myself as a big burly guy was unlocking my front door. Kid you not, it was pest control going around and spraying the entire building and I had NO CLUE, I almost got caught naked by a stranger in my own home. This was someone who was sent from an outside company who was given a key to my home and the front doors here do not have deadbolts. That is a HUGE violation of the lease, and probably your situation is the same.
If they *do* try to evict you, you have legal recourse in that they broke their end of the leasing agreement by not providing you with reasonable and safe accomodations and if you can prove it, you will not be held liable for court fees accrued during the eviction process and they cannot hold your security deposit. Your local tenant advocacy association can give you more information about that process. Also, this would count as the lease being voided rather than an eviction, which will look much better when you apply for other apartments.

Buy a buddy bar () for your front door, metal window locks () for all your windows, and an external lock () for your bedroom door.
Oh you want to come in my apartment and didn't alert me? TOO BAD you can't. Play them back with their own idiot games.
I just want to tell everyone to check their lease!! I just moved to an upscale apt, I have a clause in mine that says I can run a business as long as its done alone w no visitors. So if u decide to move check your lease before signing

And just a note on that, since I just finished breaking and lease and all that... If your lease doesn't mention anything about it, then that means they can create any rules about it (within reason). Like if your lease doesn't mention what happens when you break the lease, your landlord can legally impose any fine he/she wants within reason, in addition to the amount of time it stays vacant and unpaid.
They can do the same thing with running a business from home. If its not in your lease, they can say its not allowed and then legally evict you. In addition, like I said, if your lease doesn't mention what happens when you break it, they can impose additional fines. Luckily my landlord was too shady to even know these things and thus signed a new lease with a new tenant before she realized she could do these things. Once a new tenant is in the apartment, he/she cannot go after you.
All a lease is meant to do is protect the landlord. And it can give you peace of mind that the apartment is yours for a set amount of time unless you do something the landlord can come after you for.

I know my apartment has a "no running a business" clause but honestly I thought that was more because they don't want people in and out of the complex at all hours...
Luckily the pest guy here won't come in because of my dog... But I still keep the chain on the door AND my bedroom door locked when Im the only one in the apartment camming.
Also... If they do accuse you of being a camgirl or whatever... As far as they know you are not an independent contractor(running your own business)...as far as they know you are working for the site (a work at home job). Maybe I'm splitting hairs but there's a difference between a work at home job and a business.... Technically camming is a business but they dont have to know that...
Then again like glamourrouge said the lease is basically just made to protect the landlord so idk...
If you do end up looking for a new place I know in my city some places are dual zoned as work from here/live here apartments and town homes... So that might be something to research in your area.

Tell her that you are your boyfriend where shooting a personal video for your own private use. Hell most people do that or take naughty pics. Frankly they shouldn't be able to enter without permission.

No they can't impose any fine they want. It has to be written in the lease and clearly explained. If you break a lease the landlord can charge you a lease break fee. It varies on what they charge but most places charge at least two to three months rent. The courts usually will not let a landlord charge you for more then three months since they have to prove in court that they were trying to get a new tenant into the apartment/house.
If running a home business isn't mentioned in the lease, then it falls on local zoning codes. It would also have to be proven that you were running a home business to evict you.
A lease is not just to protect the landlord, it protects the tenant as well. Don't sign a lease if you have questions about it. Get clarification on it first and if need be ask for a more detailed lease to be written.

Exactly....
Just tell them you were cleaning you toys... Organizing them... On a cleaning frenzy.. Whatever... Just don't admit to filming or broadcasting...
They didn't find drugs or anything illegal(or possibly lease breaking) used by itself but if you put these items + filming together it could turn into that.

If a camera or webcam is involved, it legally becomes porn. That's why Lisa Ling's Our America called camming "amateur porn" - because thats what it is by legal definition. And camming isn't even filming! Its just broadcasting live, yet its still considered amateur porn. So filming is definitely considered porn.
If you admit to filming sex acts for your own personal enjoyment, it would become "filming porn for your own personal enjoyment" and all a landlord would think is "filming porn in a building I own is not acceptable, I will evict them!"

There it a law that refers to running a business in your home, but it mostly applys to the traffic that you
would be bringing in and out of your home, Youll just have to pass it off that you run something like a online forum
perhaps, or sell things online.
The porn laws, and filming are unfortunately true, and honestly, i wouldnt want to live in a place that dosnt have deadbolts.
I always got out of the pest controle guy, because they cant spray with children in the house.
If you dont have children, say you baby sit your nephew in the day, for your sister who works.
I was so lucky though, the maintenance guy at my old apartments loved us for most the time we lived there,
he even came in and took a swing on the pole once or twice, a 40 something year old, redneck man, lol it was beautiful.
Keep in mind, Texas buttholes are conservative. Yes, true... But they are also nieve, You make up a convincing enough story, one that
intrigues them, and youll be fine..
Unless you panicked and gave it all away, lets hope not. D:
This whole thread makes me nervous, im in the process of moving, to a even more conservative place, and im already at ends with my apartment manager.
D: Ive already given proof that i own a web design studio though, so lets hope they dont dig.

There's really no point splitting hairs over the definition of porn or whether the LOCAL law (remember what is legal/illegal in your area may not apply to others) considers camming a home business. But actually, if we want to split hairs on it, camming IS a home business legally. Anyway, point being, ruffling the feathers of an uptight apartment manager is NOT a good idea. We can bitch technicalities and injustice until we're blue in the face, but at the end of the day, the apartment manager has the upper hand here. All OP has to do is play nice and spin a decent story, and this can go away. If she goes in on her high horse making a fuss, the manager can make hell by starting eviction proceedings where OP will have to prove she wasn't breaking the lease. It's so much simpler to just put on your nicey nicey face with these assholes and let the whole incident fizzle out.

the whole reason i commented on it, is I AM in her area...
Was she not already going to the office to prove she works from home?
I was just agreeing.
Anyways, dosnt matter.
How did you get approved anyways?
Did you give them bank statements, or where you working somewhere els.
Are you still working somewhere els? If so, just use those statements
IF it comes down to them needing something... Beings theyve already called
you to the office, its safe to assume they do?

I don't cam. BUT, if your place really looks like a studio and you are really called out on your job... well I would just play dumb and kill them with kindness. Like, you had no idea that camming was a business because you work for a big site, etc. That you JUST started and you didn't realized you would have to move.
