Angry So... I now have a business line.. and STILL less than 1mbps upload speed... ?!

This package I've signed up for is supposed to be The Shit.

    Instead, it is shit.

They want £60 (that is around 90 dollars?) a month from me for this?

My parents had these speeds at half the price on a regular non-business internet package...

The guy on the phone that sold me this said the upload speed would be like 8mbps upload. So it looks like I'm going to need to sort this out. Aghhh.
I don't get why the UK broadband companies are lagging so far behind the US when it comes to this shit. It's so hard to get anything above 1mbps here. In fact 1mbps upload is damn lucky.

Unless you've got fibre optic, you're not going to get more than 1 upload. 0.86 is pretty fantastic relatively speaking. But 60 quid a month is a joke. The problem is that if an exchange is a basic exchange which has not been upgraded for fibre optic and has not been connected to fibre optic, it just CAN'T produce much more speed.

What really enrages me, is that fact that I'm paying £45/month for my internet (7 down, .4 up) and phone. Then I watch adverts on TV telling me that superfast broadband is only eg. £10 a month, but it's completely free for the first 6 months, and they send you a free toaster and they wank you off too for free. Aaarrrgh!!!

I was planning on moving in April specifically to an enabled area, but sadly I've had to put that on hold for the moment, and resign my lease for another year.

    I feel the pain. :-(

Oh, okay. I just read this on their website:

"When you first start a broadband line, or upgrade to a faster service, there's a 10-day 'stabilisation period'. During the first 10 days, your line speed will fluctuate while the equipment at the telephone exchange works out the optimal speed for your line. This is based on many factors, including the distance you are from the exchange.

So running a line test during this period will not give you a true result. It may be too high, too low, or about right, you just don't know. You can only get a true result after the 10 days is up. "

Anyone want to guess how much faith I have in the upload speed passing 1mbps after 10 days? Lol.. that's right: None.
If it's more than 1, I'll be pleasantly surprised. How much faith I have in it reaching 5 - 8? I can't actually psychologically comprehend such efficiency right now..

The connection I have is supposed to be a fibre optic business line! At least that is what I specifically asked to purchase on the phone to BT.. and yet there is no mention of "fibre optic" anywhere on my contract. The package I have is something called "BT Business Complete"... and he did say that upload speed should be like 8mbps.

But yes, the way these things get advertised is insane. The ways they try to lure you in is even worse.

The entire reason I moved to this flat is because it was in a fibre optic enabled area. FML. Arghhh. Sorry. Just pretty enraged right now. -_-

Ah! I didn't realise you had moved! Well, fingers crossed. Give it a week and I insanely hope it goes up (they do always say that that can happen sometimes, the "stabilising spiel"). Should you bump into any of your new neighbours, ask them about their net if you get chatting.

You're going to be checking your speedtest every hour aren't you?

Ugh, I feel your pain, Im in Canada and we don't get great internet either!
Although I recently moved and Im now getting 3mbps upload which is better than I hoped for!
Before this I was camming with like..... 0.07 or something.

They should change the terminology because calling anything that isn't dial up 'high speed internet' nowadays is pretty ridiculous!

Why is our UK internet so slow compared to US. It drives me mad, I am not in a fibre optic enabled area and it drives me maaaaad. I'm not in the position to move either

I live in the USA and my internet dramatically sux. I live in the country and we are offered poor internet speed. Many times I wished I could move to the city, but that is not happening anytime soon. In the mean time I am getting T1 internet and that will be installed for me on the 11th of next month. The 11th can't come soon enough for me. Seriously I can't wait

A city isn't a guarantee. I live in a very large US city and because I "live near the edge", the speeds here suck (at least thats what the ISP spins). I can't get a business line here, either, wtf? The speeds were awesome in the middle of the city(but it was too dangerous to live there anymore), and even when I lived in the 'burbs they weren't this bad. I can't wait until this house is paid off and I can move again! T1 is awesome though.

I've never heard of waiting 10 days though.. odd. Hope it evens out!

BT are meant to be shocking, I know someone with a business account with them and they are still slow to sort out outages...I'm with Virgin Media and have 30mbps download and 3mbps upload.

[IMG][/IMG] Of course I am USA and only 50 some miles from where my signal comes from. This is a test running two encoders. I hear the UK doesnt have the best but I honestly have zero clue since I dont live there.
I hate business class bc all i did get was 1 the whole time. I switched back to residential after a month, cheaper and much much faster. I was tired of the master techs coming to my home only to say "unless you pay 300.00 a month for extra upload" My cable company told me business does better when linked to the direct site for what we do. I dumped mine and went back with residential 5.0 promised upload. I'm not sure how it works where you live. $300( i also went with the small business package instead of a bigger business package, like what a school system would use) vs $60-70... and the lower price has better speeds for me. I went back to residential and bought a mid grade package. Of course I am USA and only 50 some miles from where my signal comes from. This is a test running two encoders.

    God luck babe

BT Infinity offer higher upload than cable through virgin - 8mb with the cheapest package and 20mb with the highest. If it's infinity you should be getting at least 8, but it can take a few days for the line to settle so that could be the case, or fault at their end? If you're not on infinity then it's pretty surprising you're even getting that speed hun as the average is up to 0.4 :/

Why are you paying so much scottie babe? We are with plusnet at £15 per month broadband and phone.

Well, I live in US right now but I think i will be moving back to Poland and cam from there. I was afraid about the internet connections... Here in US i have like 35mbs upload speed so i pretty awesome. NO problems at all with the Encoder. But i will tell u this .... Every country has some big well known internet providers like In USA - Verizon Fios or Time Warner Cable, well in Poland We have few of those called "Cyfrowy Polsat" or "Netia.pl" And those companies have some decent upload speeds about 10-15 mbs upload. Well those speeds are not bad at all, but I was like I need more than this, and what i found I searched and searched and searched online, I found a polish website that shows ALL polish INTERNET PROVIDERS !!! like little companies, not well known that provide service just in a certain areas of the city. So lets say the city that I will be moving in is Gdansk, so I typed in on that website all internet providers from that city, and what I am suprised is that those small providers acctually provide like super fast internet connections, but they run on "new neighbourhoods" where apartments are brand new and kinda more expensive" they provide 100mbs download and 100mbs upload !!!!! for like 30$ a month !!!! since the neighbourhood and the buldings are new, they used new fibre connections there!!!

I dont know about where do u live? but maybe u should try to look up the the smaller companies and fins something like that ???
My polish friend in London has like 30mbs upload speed !!!! so there has to be a way !!!
