Hmmmm. I would let the teacher know that how I felt, after all you are paying her.

" You can't use their services to make money from later"??! First of all, the sentence is poor grammar. What if you get hired as a certified instructor after taking classes? That's making money. Is this forbidden too? What if you are so talented that you get hired for an aerial show, such as Cirque du Soleil? Is this not allowed? Let alone working as a stripper/exotic dancer/go-go dancer, et.
That statement is more than hypocritical.

WOW i haven't been on here for awhile and i feel 100000000x better thanks to everyone's input. thanks all!!! i really do like the studio and want to continue classes there because it's so close to me, so instead i've just decided to take them with a different instructor and not mention my dancing just to avoid the issue altogether (even though i truly feel like i shouldn't have to). if i do happen to run into her there and can't avoid conversation, knowing me, i will bring it up and let her know how i feel, albeit as diplomatically as i can.
rock on, strippaz.
Unsophisticated in the finest sense of the word.

haha! oh yeah i never noticed that..damn spell check :p

It depends on the studio. Some are very fitness-oriented and look down on the stripper/sexy side of it, I teach at a studio that is owned by a woman open about being an ex-stripper so it's not an issue - in fact I get students ask me pretty often where I work so they can come watch me lol. I know someone else mentioned BeSpun in LA and maybe start going there instead if you can, a lot of amazing and super-sexy dancers have come out of there - Leigh Ann, Alethea Austin, Amy Guion, Tiffany Hayden to name a few.
I do hear people bitch about being a pole-dancer and getting called a stripper which is pretty common, but I understand where they're coming from and that (usually) they're not looking down at strippers - just annoyed that that's the automatic connection people make.

I have had similar experiences...the studio I went to didn't want to be associated with stripping/strippers.

Yea thats the vibe I got at the stupid pole studio I went to...And go figure the slack instructor(she didnt really care about helping me whatsoever) who worked with me and who seemed to lack respect for dancers ended up working at one of my clubs...She acted like she was better than all the dancers even when she herself began dancing..I ignored her and luckily dont work around her..

@PleasureVictim - I would recommend body and pole http://bodyandpole.com/ I did a couple classes with Marlo Fisken when I was there and she's an amazing instructor, the studio is really nice too. Browsing through their instructors I only recognise 3 of them but I've seen all 3 do 'strippery' performances.

Marlo rocks! I went to the PPC yesterday. One of my instructors placed 3rd over all. (I know thread jack, but she's one of the cool ones. Her idol was a dancer/stripper).
Try Romance and Dance studio in Carson! No stigma there lol I go in Rancho Cucamonga.
