    Default SM/LJ & Background Checks...

Hello, I'm curious, when an employer outside of the "camming world" does a background check before hiring you, what exactly comes up in the previous employment section regarding cam work? Specifically if you have modeled on Streamate and/or Livejasmin, does it actually SAY "Streamate, an adult webcam modeling corporation," or something of that nature, or does it just give the company name or, ideally, a less-known corporation name, so people wouldn't automatically associate it with an ad they saw pop up one day?

I'm sure many girls are curious about this...

If I'm not mistaken, a background check will show the company name as listed on your 1099.

It shouldn't show up unless you have put Streamate or LiveJasmin down as an "employer" on any applications you have filled out. It's not a good idea to list them as your employer, since they are not. You are self employed.

I have not heard of 1099 information routinely showing on a background check. I've seen my own background check (just a basic level one from a leasing company) and no 1099 information was listed.

Of course there are others who will tell you that it did show on their background checks or credit reports. Ideally if you haven't given the information out on applications or listed them as an employer on anything, you should be fine.

Also, LJ does not send out 1099s.
    xoxo ~ Sarah

Thank you so much again, Sarah! I just remember seeing a thread where a bunch of girls were lamenting the loss of all of their dreams of entering the medical or legal professions, or volunteering or working with children, etc. So I figured, aside from the possibility of lingering material being stumbled upon by an employer or someone else who would put them in a compromising position, it had something to do with background checks. Many of them were citing background checks as the issue; that it would "follow" them forever and would be something employers would always see, something they would have to "explain" before being hired. I'm happy to hear that this is not always the case; elated, in fact, as I have the utmost respect for the individuals who do make this their full-time living while they're capable (in fact, probably more respect and admiration than I have for people in most any career), but it isn't the right fit for me in the long-term. I knew getting in that I was getting in to get out, but hopefully in a much better situation than I entered.

The thing to remember is that a lot of employers run a credit check as well as a criminal background check. At least where I live, anyway. And the cam sites will come up as possible employers if they run a credit check.
