Default What to do with a bunch of knock-off purses I don't want?

So I have maybe 10 knock off designer purses that I don't want. I'm not a label type person, I just picked them up while thrift shopping over the last few years but I never wear them. I thought about selling them on Craigslist but I'm scared I would get in trouble. I would like to get some money from them if I could but I am just scared about selling something I know is a knock off. (I wouldn't sell it as real, I wouldn't even put the brand, and price it cheap as a knock-off should be).

    Should I:

    - Sell them on Craigslist for cheap, even though it's illegal? (maybe sell them in a lot all at once?)
    - Donate them to a thrift store and get the tax write off
    - Give them away (don't know anyone who would want them)

    erhm.

Put pictures of them up on craigslist. Sell them as one bulk package.

Don't have to list names. And you can let each person who's interested know that they're knockoffs you got while shopping, or they were gifts.

Am I seriously being judged because I bought knock off purses? I posted here instead of purseforum because I didn't think I would get a negative response here. I appreciate both of your feedback about what to do but I don't think the attitude is necessary. There are 587646543 people that buy knock offs all the time.

Donate them to a battered womens shelter or to a non profit that helps women dress for job interviews. Then it is a tax deductible charitable donation.

That is a GREAT idea ArmySGT! I felt kind of lame just donating them to some random place, and a women's shelter is definitely a worthly cause. Thanks for your input.

Yeah, I seriously dig knockoff anything, as long it's not horrible or anything..there's plenty of designer stuff that just doesn't look good.
I was going to suggest donating, tax writeoff, & fast way to get rid off stuff.

Uuuhm... because spending $800+ on a handbag that will only be in style for a season and is probably an impulse buy anyway is stupid? Sure, some designer stuff is obviously better made and may hold up longer but really, when you just want to own a variety of purses, who cares if they're not all designer brands? It's the style that counts, anyway and that varies over time. It's a stupid myth that bags "appreciate" in value, too. Spending all that money on something you're only going to use once or twice is ultimately a waste. There's no need to be elitist about it, if you disagree.

I think it's an awesome idea to donate them to a women's shelter but if you happen to go the route of selling them online, would you mind PMing me the link? I'm always looking for new (cheap) bags. I wear mine out so quickly it's insane. I have paypal for shipping and stuff, too. Good luck!

^^^ Knockoffs are made in child labor sweatshops (which is why you get them for so cheap) AND steals from the artist's (handbag designer's) trademarked artistic creation. So its more of an ethical issue versus a price one that pisses people off. By purchasing the item, you are funding child labor sweatshops, and funding someone else for stealing someone else's art/work. That's the issue.

I would say the best thing to do is to donate it for a tax writeoff. Just to offset the karma of supporting child labor sweatshops. But that's just me.

Most ALL designer labels are produced under sweatshop conditions. Coach is made in China, as is Betsy Johnson, Prada, Gucci, and many more. Do you honestly think designer prices make everything sweat-free? You're kidding yourself. Don't be naive. If you really care about supporting labor and sweat-free goods, either buy everything used or research literally all companies before you make a purchase. It's virtually impossible to avoid sweat-labor consumer goods (especially clothes/accessories) in the current global market. Get off your high horse.

LMAO I don't give a shit where people buy their shit from, what brand it is, what they buy, or what they do with their cash. I don't have the time or 1 ounce of caring as to what other people do, so you're attacking the wrong person, but ok. I was replying as to why this happens, but never once did I say I personally care. That would require time and effort I do not care to give, and hypocritical considering we work in an industry that is rooted in what many would argue "unethical" underpinnings.

What I wrote is what I hear OTHER PEOPLE say over & over, how its not money-related but ethics related, and its largely based on facts.

And for the record, since you brought it up, even though this does not really concern me in the slightest, yes, I basically buy all of my non-work clothing used.

All the purses I purchased were at thrift shops, so I was not supporting child labor or anything else. If anything I was supported the non-profit causes of the Salvation Army and Goodwill.

Beyond child labor, knock offs fund terrorist organizations, if anyone was wondering. There's an MSNBC documentary about it on Hulu in case anyone was interested.

Again, I purchased them used (as I do most everything I buy) but never wore them so I was looking for the best way to get rid of them.

Thanks everyone for your answers. I don't want this to turn into a debate about knock-offs vs authentic etc. because that's besides the point.

Yeah I was not trying to be offensive to anyone, I just buy cheaper stuff mostly & am ok (depending) with it. I am more correct when it comes to recycling. I do donate a lot of stuff clothes etc.

Not all knock offs are produced in sweatshops, and many designer items are also purchased in sweatshops. Someone may favor purchasing designer items or vice versa, but sweatshops should not be included in their arguments because they are not exclusive to neither luxury items nor knock offs. Both types of products are somewhat produced in sweatshops. Not to mention there are many different producers of knock offs so your knock offs very well could have been produced in an environment that is not a sweatshop. Who knows? Anyone making the sweatshop argument should look at the tags on their clothes and furniture to find out where it was made... I bet a lot of it says "China"! You think those people are making good money and working good hours? Remember brands like Nike (and many other popular name brand shoes) are notoriously known to have sweatshops in China and other non-western countries... while down the street, people are working 70 hours a week to make authentic ipads and iphones for apple (not knockoffs) making a buck a day while their work building is surrounded by nets for the sole purpose of protecting the workers from not committing a successful suicide. And people want to talk about knockoffs having sweatshops? Psh.
