    Default Sugery-Related Tax Deduction...

    Hi girls,

I'm wondering, if you were to get, for example, $25,000.00 worth of cosmetic surgery (not exclusively breast implants, but all of which could be attributed to wanting to look your best for your job...) how much of that could be deducted from your total income tax, if you made, for example, $75,000.00 that year?

If you wanted to go to top-qualified surgeons whom produce consistently natural looking results for the sake of "refinement", but breast implants were around 8k, then rhinoplasty 10k, and, for the sake of argument, fillers and other non-surgical cosmetic enhancements totaling somewhere in the ballpark of the 25k I proposed throughout one income tax year, then with an average 75k income, after paying 25-30% tax, and also putting yourself through school, that wouldn't leave a ton of room for surgical expenditures. Therefore, how much of that enhancement, if done, or, more specifically, portrayed as being done exclusively with the intention of increasing your earning potential in your job, could be written off as a deduction?

I've discovered that I'm comfortable with earning 300/day (1500/week) Monday-Friday, taking off weekends, rather than doing 200/day Monday-Sunday. Regardless of which approach I take to make 1500/week, I'm not *yet* able to exceed that in terms of daily tolerance for being online (which generally does not exceed 4-6 hours), and therefore it comes out to roughly 75k/year. The idea of setting aside roughly 2k/month for taxes, leaving me with 4k out of a total of 6k for the month, then all living expenses + pursuing my education, leaves very little room for some of the little things I have been wanting to get done for quite a long time (C-Cup breast implants + the "perfect", natural-looking nose + a few fillers) and therefore, I'm hoping there's some way to *substantially* lessen the amount of that potential fund that is allotted towards taxes.

    So, is there?

I doubt you could deduct it. But talk to an accountant, have your accountant do your taxes, and if you get audited you can challenge their license.

The IRS recently issued an 'opinion' in regard to hollywood celebrities attempting to write off the costs of plastic surgeries and other things which improve their appearance. The IRS 'letter ruling' takes the position that such plastic surgeries and other appearance improving expenditures are primarily of personal benefit ( even though personal appearance plays a role in the celebrities' business success ) ... and as such are no longer allowed as business expense tax deductions.

The one exception to this is another IRS 'letter ruling', which states that professional sized breast implants ( i.e. over 1000cc each ) actually create a 'burden' in the girl's personal life ( unsolicited approaches by horny men, catty comments by other women etc. ). As such, they offer no personal benefit ... thus are only of value in terms of increased business earnings ... and as such ARE still a legitimate business expense tax deduction. However, 'housewife' sized implants ( < 1000cc each ) are not deductible.

Thank you. That is very useful; if not somewhat disheartening...

yup ... actual IRS blurbabe from

    (snip)"Appearance and Image

Taxpayers in the entertainment industry sometimes may incur expenses to maintain an image. These expenses are frequently related to the individual's appearance in the form of clothing, make-up, and physical fitness. Other expenses in this area include bodyguards and limousines. These are generally found to be personal expenses as the inherently personal nature of the expense and the personal benefit far outweigh any potential business benefit.

No deduction is allowed for wardrobe, general make-up, or hair styles for auditions, job interviews, or "to maintain an image".(snip)
