    Default Yet another Xpole thread...HALP!

I've been interested in buying a pole for years and now I'm finally ready to get one, but unfortunately I'm torn between all the different options that are available now. For the past few weeks I've been researching and trying to find what would be best for me. I'm somewhat locked on the Stainless Steel 45mm Xpert, but I cannot buy it unless I have a 2nd and 3rd opinion. Unfortunately, there aren't that many positive reviews about SS poles. I'm interested in this finish because, supposedly, it cannot rust. I've heard that over time the other poles begin to rust, chip, or fade. Also, that once SS poles are worn in they begin to stick just as well as TG and brass poles. And if that doesn't work then vinegar, vodka and/or sandpaper could do the trick. Is this true, and has anyone experienced this?

To help make my decision a little easier, I'm going to visit some local studios and try out their poles, so I can get a feel of the different sizes and finishes. Even though they're not the ones I'm interested in, I'm sure it'll help me out, especially since the last time I was on a pole was in 2010 at Odyssey 2k1! This is a stretch, but does anyone know which type of poles they use at that club? And since I'm still a newb, is a 40mm too small for me? I'm 5'4", 120lbs and the distance from my wrist to my middle finger is 6.5in.

Also, I watched the X-pert installation videos and I don't know if it's because I have a short attention span, but I could not focus on that video for the life of me. It seems like there's a lot of steps and that it's really troublesome, especially since I'll be removing my pole after every use. Should I go out of my way to try and find an original X-Pole? Are the poles from Platinum Stages easier to install? Sorry for all the questions, but any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have the stainless steel X-pole. I don't really have a problem with it not being sticky enough, I can do tons of pole tricks on it (usually when I'm drunk, lol) and I'm fine! Wiping it down with Windex helps immensely. As for the installation, yes it is a pain in the f&%^% ass! Especially when you do it for the first time! You'll get it though once you have all the pieces in front of you. I bought mine from a girl on craigslist and it didn't come with instructions and I was so worried that maybe she didn't include all the pieces or something, because I was having such a hard time! I have to take mine down after every use, and I find that I don't really use it as much as I thought that I would because it's so much extra effort to set it up. Good luck!

I have a stainless steel 45mm Xpert, which I love. That said, if I had to do it over, I definitely wouldn't chose this particular combo.

Firstly, I found that I didn't need it to spin. While I had originally learned on a spinning pole, I've found with time I prefer it stationary, and now I never use it on spin. I just get too nauseous.

45mm is a bit too pinchy for a lot of tricks that require holding on with your thighs. I originally thought I was willing to make the trade-off for the easier hand-grip, but ultimately I realized I was strong enough to grip on a 50mm, and it was more comfortable on my legs. I would never, ever buy a pole slimmer than 45mm.

As far as the finish goes, I think most folks use SS poles. Mine is really sticky - I'm not sure how it compares to the other finishes, but it's been more than sticky enough! Just wipe it down with rubbing alcohol when it gets sweaty, same as on every other pole ever.

I have a hard time putting up my pole without my boyfriend. Not because it's hard to put the pieces together correctly, but because it takes FOR FUCKING EVER to get it get it level. The magnetic level isn't included, but you're going to need one!

Thanks for the responses! Do you guys mind sharing why you chose stainless steel over the other finishes?

Well, at the time I bought, pole dancing was just my hobby, so financially, any other finish was out of the question. (At the time, I worked at Walmart, haha!)

But even if I were going back to buy it again, I'd stay with stainless steel just because it's what I've always used, and what I'll use everywhere else! I take classes, and every where I go, everyone else is using stainless steel, so I'd feel kinda derpy if I could do all these badass tricks at home, but not at the studio where I could show off. =P

That said, I've always found stainless steel to be grippy enough. When I wanted additional grip, I just put on some grip aid.

I HATE the grip of the ss xpole. I find it so slick... it's buffed - not shiny like I am used to with any other pole. I would get chrome; which is what I think a lot of people here are talking about.

    chrome xpole: silver shiny finish
    stainless steel: silver MATTE finish

Oh, yeah, jeez, I am a moron. I confused the two.

Sadie's right; I have a chrome finish, and that's the one I was attempting to recommend.

I love my X-Pole, it's the Stainless 45mm and I swear it's the best 300$ I've ever spent, they're actually really easy to install just sometimes difficult to get exactly straight so I just always leave mine up unless I take it to a photoshoot or travel with it. When I can get 75$ I want to get the adapter to put it on a slanted ceiling so I can put it in my living room since the ceiling is much higher.

The pole at the club I danced at the most had a lead pipe with paint on it for a pole and it was the slickest thing ever, especially since most girls would wear lotion so I never thought it was slick, but you can always get some grip-aid and clean it well. =)

Awesome. Did you choose that finish? If so, why? Once your pole has worn in, was there a significant change in the grip?

Because of work, I have to constantly wash my hands and now they're extremely dry. I'm thinking of getting some gloves to save my hands and to get a better grip. Any good recommendations?

I tried gloves and didn't like it much, maybe mine weren't very good idk, maybe you could try some good skin moisturizers to put on after you wash your hands (unless you're gonna be on the pole) after I do my dishes I usually put face moisturizer on my hands. Back when I got my pole it wasn't nearly as popular as it is now, I got mine off of someone on EBay because the only other way I could seem to find to order them was out of England which would of cost over 100$ to ship, off EBay I got free shipping I think the person ordered bulk from England and resold here or something idk and I don't even remember there being other poles to pick from except from the mm.

I love my SS x-pole. It has lasted 6+ years with no signs of aging. It's definitely slick, but if you're learning pole moves for club purposes, then that's kind of a good thing (you want to practice on something that's a bit more difficult than your club's pole). That said, it's rough on the self-esteem, since it takes longer to master tricks.

I try to use lotion in between washes, but I sometimes forget or I'll have to wash my hands like 5 minuets later. Babies...

I just called one of the old clubs I danced at and the manager said that the poles they use are 2 inches in diameter, chrome and from Platinum Stages. I guess he meant SS, lol. The girls working there are very good dancers and worked the pole effortlessly. I remember having a little difficulty climbing the pole because I'm a newb, but I was able to do a really fast angel spin without hesitation.

I just read an article about a lady becoming paralyzed after falling off a pole. Even though she was in a studio when her accident happened, it scared me enough to purchase class from Groupon. It's been a long time since I've been on a pole, so I think having a little instruction wouldn't hurt.

Yea I heard of a girl falling off the top of a 16" once breaking her neck and dying and the club closed.... You gotta be careful and know your limitations, don't get overly ballsy, if you don't feel strong enough to do something don't try to force it, you gotta work up to it.

I've never had instruction and only have had two injuries, once because I was stupidly wearing knee socks and was drunk and tried to flip over and slipped right down and busted my head hard on the edge of the round base on my XPole, the other because I was on stage at a club and the club put two girls on stage at once and the other girl walked right the fuck in front of me and I could of either kicked her right in the face with my platform or drop and I chose drop, maybe I should of kicked her in the face idk but I busted my hip bad on the pole when I fell and it took a while to rehabilitate myself.

I've helped many girls learn tricks and my basic rules are never "jump" always pull or lift with your muscles and never "just let go" I was working at a club and was teaching a girl a trick and another girl came over and told her to "just let go" and she about busted her head on the rail on the side of the stage, I jumped over the side and caught her fortunately and don't ever "just let go" was an ongoing joke in the club for years after (the girl that said it was a stuck up psycho drama starter)

Re gloves on the pole, I wear them at work when I'm on stage, since I have nerve damage in one hand/arm & the gloves help w/ grip. They are simple black fingerless cloth weight-lifting gloves from Walmart. I find they work very well to help w/ grip. A girl at work took my idea to the nxt lvl & wears gloves that have a different material sewn into the fingers/palms, maybe a vinyl type material. I'm going to get around to trying them myself one of these days since she had sm good things to say abt their grip on the pole.

OP: get CHROME not SS from x-pole. You will highly regret ordering their SS pole.

CHROME! That's likely what everyone on here is talking about. They only came out with their stainless steel pole ~a year ago.

Wow, omg, poor girl, RIP. Do you know where this happened and at which club? I remember working at Gold Club in Tampa. The club is inside a warehouse-like building and all the poles went to the top of the ceiling. They must of been about 100ft and some of the girls would climb all the way to the top, dangle from the ceiling bars, climb back on to the pole, invert and then do a death drop stopping about a foot from the ground. I hated watching them do that because a lot of times the girls were tipsy. Ugh.

Thanks for the input Lucious. Do you ever have any problems with your chrome like the finish rubbing off, chipping or rusting?

Yesterday I went to Lowe's to check out the different diameters, but they only have 2" (50mm) and 1 1/2" 40mm). I fell in love with the 1 1/2" thinking it was 45mm. My fingers could touch but it would be hell for my legs to work with. That diameter reminds me of the playground poles I'd play on. When I was a kid I used to pretend to be a stripper and pole dance on them, lol. The 50mm is way too big and it reminds of holding a large drink cup from a fast food joint, so it's definitely out of the question. I'm pretty sure a 45 would be a happy medium, but I still want to check it out, so I'll have to find a plumbing store to see if they carry a 1 3/4" since Lowe's doesn't. Or could make things easier and just go to my class. Lol

Hot damn! I had no idea TG is cheaper than stainless steel! And I've been lurking the X-Pole site for a month. This whole time I thought it was $400. Wtf is wrong with me? I think I'll be getting this instead ss or chrome. Ugh, I just wish it weren't that awful gold color.

TG suxor imho. Maybe this is because at the time I lived in an area that was 80-90 percent humidity and 90+ degrees year round, but after about a year the finish started to gradually rub off. This was one of the older models, though...so initially the wear started around the screws and in areas of the pole that I favored for tricks. Maybe that wouldn't happen with the x-joint technology... or in more appropriate weather?

Thanks Luscious, lol I guess I'll get that. I wish I made poll about poles...I think I might do that. Btw, I've seen some some poles, like Dirdy Birdy's, that appear to have two different finishes. Like half brass or half chrome, steel, etc. Or is it just the paint job?

My first pole was chrome from lil mynx, and now I own a titanium gold xpole. I've had it for about a year, and it's been great! Haven't noticed the finish rubbing off yet, but I'm in canada, not so hot and humid all year here. I do find the TG a bit stickier, but just a bit. There's not a HUGE difference between the TG and Chrome, but I feel like I can go longer between wiping down the pole on the TG finish than the chrome. Sweaty hands and chrome finish=nightmare. And fwiw my skills have improved vastly this year in comparison to previous years. I feel like that may be more related to the spinning qualities of the x pole than the finish though. Sometimes when me and my roomates are just chillin we'll have competitions for stupid shit like who can sit on the pole the longest, who can hang from it the longest, etc. It's really fun when it's spinning so I think it just encourages you to play more hence build muscle faster
