Default for what it's worth - US Congress Has Scheduled 'Cyber Week' for the middle of April

I have no idea whether or not this will wind up being significant for camgirls, but for a fact the US congress has already scheduled the review of a whole bunch of internet / computer related bills over the course of the next couple of weeks. One that will be specifically reviewed for changes will be the 'Computer Fraud and Abuse Act'

(snip)"Apparently, the House Judiciary Committee has decided to raise a giant middle finger to folks who are concerned about abuses of the CFAA. Over the weekend, they began circulating a "draft" of a "cyber-security" bill that is so bad that it almost feels like the Judiciary Committee is doing it on purpose as a dig at online activists who have fought back against things like SOPA, CISPA and the CFAA. Rather than fix the CFAA, it expands it. Rather than rein in the worst parts of the bill, it makes them worse. And, from what we've heard, the goal is to try to push this through quickly, with a big effort underway for a "cyberweek" in the middle of April that will force through a bunch of related bills(snip)

(snip)We've seen how federal seizure and forfeiture laws are frequently abused to seize goods, which the government claims are used in the commission of a crime (even if they never charge anyone for the crime). And we've seen, with cases like the Dajaz1 case, how the government will use such tools to take and censor websites on no actual basis. And now the CFAA will make it even easier for the government to do such things. It amends the existing sections to basically expand what can be forfeited, because it's not like the government hasn't abused that one before...(snip)

of course it's a distinct possibility that the SOPA / PIPA bills will again rear their ugly heads as well ... or some of their provisions being rolled into a revised CFAA law .

    I'll keep you posted ...

I'm very concerned about this. I made a thread earlier about CISPA here: https://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sh...t-your-privacy

I think if any of theses types of laws that they keep rehashing to pass over and over get through they will effect camgirls, although I hope that isn't the case

Thanks for the link to your CISPA thread. I missed it because the title line really didn't drive home what the thread was about. At any rate, the recurring question in the older thread was basically as follows ...

I don't see how this could hurt a cam girl. I'm not for it, but I don't think camming has anything to do with it. Its just like a neutral thing. Obviously anyone who goes into this line of work thinking its anonymous is totally delusional (*ahem* I just watched a new segment where they used facial recognition software at a football game and found 10 criminals just by them walking into the stadium) and will probably find that out that hard way, but I don't see how this could really affect us.
I'm not saying that things could actually pan out this way, but here's a possible scenario ...

    A. an accusation is made by, say, a US recording company that copyrighted music is being 'rebroadcast' by camgirls working at a particular webcam host without prior royalty payment being made by those camgirls / webcam host to the recording company.

    B. based on that accusation, the US gov't 'seizes' the domain name of the accused webcam host, and points it toward a new US DOJ home page that informs camgirls trying to log on, as well as informing would-be webcam customers, that the webcam host is potentially guilty of violating SOPA / CISPA / CFAA.

    C. the webcam host can then attempt to go through US legal channels in an attempt to 'prove their innocence' and have their domain name restored so that camgirls and customers can access their website. In the meantime of course, neither camgirls nor webcam customers are able to access the original cam host website = zero customer spending and zero camgirl earnings.

    D. Additionally, just because their domain name has been 'seized' does NOT mean that the webcam host can stop making software license payments, server farm rental payments, internet backbone access payments, support staff paychecks etc. even though the webcam host no longer has an active revenue stream of webcam customer dollars to fund those payments. So the webcam host faces a dilemma of #1 simply ceasing operations and cashing out, versus #2 trying to come up with an alternate source of funding with which to pay attorneys to 'prove their innocence' in a US federal court over the course of the next several months / year ... PLUS try and keep their website 'functional' via continued paychecks to support staff, continued payment of monthly website expenses etc.

... just speculating of course, but every aspect of the above speculation is based on actual events which already took place in regard to a website 'accused' of 'rebroadcasting' copyrighted music...
