Okay so I'm thinking of getting an apple desktop. Is it worth it, or would working on a laptop doing exactly the same thing? I have 2 laptops now, one is an i7.
No, 2 laptops are good enough
A desktop won't do anything because you can connect your ethernet cord into your laptop
Yes, it resolved all my camming & connection issues and changed my life
Yes, but it only resolved my issues with Streamate
I personally bought a desktop to use instead but did not notice any difference
I just wanted to take the poll anyway even though I have no experience with this

May I ask why Apple specifically?
(adding: all the survey questions ask from the point of view of already having a laptop, or am I totally misreading which is possible?)

Apple because I prefer their products. So far I've had HP, Toshiba, Asus, and Apple laptops. Apples rarely failed, and when they did, they were fixed promptly at the genius bar and for free. Toshibas are made with shitty casing (plastic) but are good machines, my Asus failed the first month I got it (video feed would freeze in less than 10 seconds of streaming every time) and same with other girls who have one, HP was nothing special. I prefer Toshiba for windows, but I still prefer apple over Toshiba. I also dislike windows 8 despite having it on one of my laptops.

I was just curious. You're totally allowed to love any brand you love.Being an Apple fan does affect my answer though as the costs for a high powered Apple are so much higher than a high powered PC. If you already have two laptops, one of which is an i7, and you're hardlined in the cost vs profit ratio of upgrading to an Apple desktop at this time isn't really worth it in my opinion.
Unless you do lots of clip editing. That is a different story
Edit: I'm sending you a PM![]()

I would go with the apple. I love the editing eatures and wish I could find one with windows. I voteed 2 is good enough BUT SCRATCH THAT since it is for editing

Sounds like you already have two good laptops so why get a desktop? I use my Mac pro for camming and absolutely love it!

I absolutely love Apple, I'm a total Apple whore, but I don't use my Mac for camming. I tried it and honestly it was not as successful for me as the PC is. The encoder can be tricky on the Mac, and there are no split cam programs that I have found thus far. Also a lot of the logitech drivers did not seem to work well with the Mac. The cam will work, but the extra features like the control panel that enables you to zoom and what not are not available on the Mac. Also, on some sites I was not able to get my audio working for my cam no matter what I tired, and I tried a lot.
I would totally get a PC over a laptop, but for camming I think a PC is better. The only thing I use the PC for is for camming.
But, the issues I had with camming on my Mac could have just been me... so....? If you cam with an Apple laptop and it works well for you, a desktop should work equally as well.

I cam and edit from my Mac Pro (2008 2.8Ghz Quad-Core, 14GB Memory, 4HD bays - though I only use 3 of them) I dont split cam, my Logitech works fine, only ever have issues with video editing when I get low on space.
Based on that my recommendation is (if your using it for clips mostly) Is to scower ebay for a similar machine alot of times editing bays in CA dumb their old equipment there. I've seen maxed out older models (2008-2011) going for $600-1000 that sometimes include Adobe CS.
Max out your Memory, Replace the HDs and go from there. My Mac is a work horse, I have in the last year replaced the power supply which being an apple part wasn't cheep ($200-350) but coming from a mac family I can tell you this is a pretty rare occurrence.
If you buy new max out your Apple Care warranty. Apple's tech support is wonderful.
I will say my Mac sucks when I want to film in the bathroom or kitchen lol. The tower weighs around 40lbs.

sell one of the laptops and get a desktop. Especially for editing you can't go wrong with a desktop as the fans in laptops are inferior, mainly because everything is so crunched together. And go big and the best your money can buy. I got an imac 27' with 3.2 ghz i7. Don't buy the ram with Apple though-they are a rip off for ram. Get the standard machine with 4 gig ram, then go to your local computer shop and get the correct ram (1333 Corsair) and do it yourself. I upgraded myself to 16 gig of ram for less then $100 (apple would have wanted an extra $600). Took me less then 10 minutes to open the machine myself at home and install the new ram.

After harassing you via PM, my official vote is go with the Apple Desktop for your needs.![]()
