    Default Paleo Diet info

This is a good vid to watch for those confused about the facts on supposed "Paleo" diets. Her main "lessons" toward the end are spot on and she does a great job of picking apart some of the realities of our modern diets (good and bad) vs supposed Paleo diets people think they are following which are based more on marketing than fact.

I think she stressed the meat focus of some "Paleo" diets too much and didn't focus on humans being omnivores (vs carnivores) and her early comments ramble a tad off focus, but her info later regarding the fact no one is actually eating what our paleolithic ancestors ate, Paleo diet is a marketing term vs reality, and her take home info is dead on: eat fresh foods where possible, eat a variety of foods, eat whole foods. Full stop

I have some issues with her comments regarding human physiology (she's an archaeologist, not a human physiologist and it shows in some spots) and thought it was going to turn into a pro vegetarian lecture (It didn't) but her essential take home lessons and info on the fact Paleo eating is more marketing and fad than fact, is good info:

But it was not what your paleolithic ancestors ate and hence the term "paleo diet" is marketing ploy vs fact or science. Her take home:

Eat fresh foods where possible, eat a variety of foods, eat whole foods

That's just good nutrition advice, some of which the paleo craze contains to be sure.

Tempest666 - I read your posts about your weight loss a lot and I am curious as to what you did? Strict Paleo (the official version) to lose it? And what are your basic eating principles now? Not counting the giant burrito cheat days of course lol

Thanks for that, Will. Are you a fan of Michael Pollan's "Food Rules?"

Yes. It's overly simplistic but generally good advice. Falls apart a bit when closely examined (as is often the case with overly simplistic advice on any topic), but there's worse advice out there to be sure. I though author at WebMD does a good job of looking at it:

Will, thank you. I also just bought "This is Why Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes - it's certainly a skill to separate fact from snappy marketing campaigns!

For the first year I was a Paleo Nazi, minus my period week. Nowadays I still eat paleo. I avoid all fast food, don't drink sodas and I still work out like a demon.

Paleo made me really sick. I can't handle that much meat and its really hard on your liver and kidney. I prefer paleo diet with just small amounts of fish/seafood instead. Smoothies and salads. Still really low calorie.

Does Paleo diet connect somehow with or another diet pills or it's just a diet?

I tried the paleo diet a few years ago.

I gained about 3% bodyfat, and lost strength.

So then I switched back to a conventional bodybuilding diet and got back down to 8% in no time at all and felt good again.

    It's a marketing gimmick.
