First of all, I’m sorry if any of my questions have been answered before. I’ve done lots of research here on SW and outside, but nothing seems to be working, so I figured I would detail my situation and ask for help. I am very new to this, never having recorded nor edited any videos before. I’m VERY confused.
My aim is to record videos I can post to C4S, ELM and my own profiles on camsites, etc. I want to record a master file in full HD and then edit/convert it to smaller and/or lower resolution clips – like recording a 10 min video at 1920px x1080px and then editing it to a 5 min version in full HD, another version in 720p, and a last one for mobile devices, all from the master 10 min full HD master recording. Also, If possible, I’d like to use the same recording software when broadcasting, maybe through splitcamming, if necessary.
My equipment is a Logitech C920 webcam, and a Dell Inspiron I5 @2.50 GHz with Windows 7 Home Basic.
I have tried recording videos using the Adobe Encoder, but it seems no free editing software handles this type of file and trying to convert it proved to be a pain in the ass, since it’s hard to find good free converters and the results I got from what I’ve tried were really not good at all (changes colors, delayed images, all sorts of bad stuff).
I have tried recording with Windows Movie Maker and, although it seemed to go fine, WMM itself doesn’t recognize the video when I try editing it – it just gives me a black screen with the audio. When I go check the original recording, it’s all good, but I can’t edit it. I also tried recording with Debut, but when I use HD settings it just gives me a single frame and the audio track.
Can someone please point me what I can do? I really just need a reliable HD recording software which I can use with my webcam and delivers a usable HD format (not f4v like the Encoder), and a simple editing software I can use to trim and change resolutions. Any suggestions?
