Default Are any of you guys involved with RSS feeds?

    I was going thru the links in Marys kick-ass promo and marketing thread and I found an article about RSS feeds. I honestly have no clue what they are and what they are used for but I see mentions of them all over the internet just wondered if any of you guys used them and if they help you drum up new bizness at all

    Basically an RSS feed is a news feed. If you subscribe someones RSS feed, you are notified when they make new posts. There are RSS readers such as Google Reader that let you put all your blogs that you subscribe to in one place so they are easier to read and you don't need to check a million websites. They are discontinuing Google Reader but if you just search RSS readers you can find a bunch of free ones and each has different features.

    So for instance, if a customer likes you and subscribes to your feed, and you make a new blog post saying "Hey guys, I just made this new video, buy it!" it will show up in his feed on his RSS reader as a new post, almost like the Facebook news feed.

    Having new content, such as blog posts, is also good for SEO (search engine optimization).

    If you have blogger I believe they include the RSS feed subscription button. For Wordpress it's a simple plugin. You don't need the button though, people can subscribe to you without it, but if you have it it encourages more subscriptions, which is what you want!

    I'm not super familiar with Tumblr, but I think they almost don't need the RSS button because when you subscribe to someone's Tumblr, it's automatically shown on your dashboard just like an RSS reader would do. Either way, if someone has an RSS reader and they want to subscribe to you, they don't need the button they can just put snowystar.tumblr.com in their subscription box and it will be automatically added.

    I just did a quick google search and it looks like that some themes include the button, and some do not. If you are a little bit more tech savvy here is the code you can use if you don't want to change themes:
{lang:RSS feed}
