Well, it's not exactly news. The "If you're a cop you have to tell me" Myth has been debunked many times over on StripperWeb... but today I read about this:

Ugh.

Ugh's right. I have heard of this, more than a few times.![]()

What I don't understand is how a vice department cops mandate is to trawl backpage for independent girls...I mean how much money was this girl worth? Granted it acts as a deterrent, but why are they not targeting agencies where more money changes hands and the crime being committed has a higher penalty (i.e. being a pimp or madam)

It's very easy to "pinch" a prostitute and then press her for incriminating info about the agency/pimp/whatever in return for a reduced charge. The powers that be like to build a strong case before they pursue a warrant for the pimps/agencies/etc.
P.S. Regarding your question about her "worth" the report stated that she allegedly charged $145 for a half hour and $185 for a full hour of her time.

$185 seems awfully low and I knew escorts who charged something like $500 hour (but they were porn models and this was in the 90's). Anyway, I have heard these stories so often and it makes me sick. I remember years ago at this one club these uniformed cops would come in every night and the owner would often comp them dances. Yet I am willing to bet they would have arrested a girl because she wasn't far enough or something like that (this was a clean no touch bikini/pasty bar). I will never understand why cops go after prostitutes instead of real criminals that are affecting society.

It's easier for them & makes them look good?^

Yeah and it bothers me. Personally I don't find anything wrong with prostitution and while I wouldn't engage in it (not my thing)I don't understand this hatred so many cops have for them. They aren't causing trouble or increasing crime or anything else. Notice they rarely go after the pimps or the johns? When I see that I often think they are picking on hookers because they are women and easier to go after women.

Beyond THAT!!!! Wasn't there some ridiculous TV show about male prostitutes... I think it was called GIGOLOS. They blatantly broke the law, had it recorded on tape, and aired it for TV. The law enforcement response to this:
Las Vegas Police Spokesperson, Marcus Martin: ""They can play the line as loose as they want to, semantically, but they're still violating the law." Since the recorded conduct did not occur in front of an officer it does not constitute an arrestable offense, although there could be "repercussions" in the future, according to Martin."

Crazy.
It looks like the guy was targeting her, prostitution should be legal, weed will be legalized before prostitution.

That's fucked up. The exchanging of money could've been enough, he didn't need to go that far and I still don't get why it isn't legalized.

because agencies pay the cops off, and because they advertise for "escorting" services..what goes on between two consenting adults is perfectly legal, so IF they want to have sex there's nothing they can do. yesterday i had a guy come in who owned one and told me that as long as you don't say the worlds" 100 bucks for a bj" or demand a price then its legal..you just have to twist your words correctly to get paid.

They are allowed to do that, sadly. I've never escorted, but even if I wanted to, I wouldn't because of situations like that occurring and being legal. Fucked up.
grrr bastards!
No, sorry, cops are not allowed to have paid sex with prostitutes. Not before a bust, or any other way. They are getting away with criminal misconduct if they have sex for money. They're getting away with criminal misconduct if they have sexual contact with suspects while on duty. Cops aren't even allowed to show their privates, etc. They have pretty strict rules for cops. Which is why it's so easy to sort the cops from the prostitutes/johns. You're talking about corrupt cops, here. If a working girl demanded taking a nude pic of every john from the neck down with her phone and sent them to properly secured foreign mail boxes, she'd weed out all the cops. Especially if they have distinguishing marks in the pics (tattoos, moles). Pretty much everyone has distinguishing marks. Same goes for johns, all they have to do is take nudie pics. It's even easier for them though, the chances of a female cop committing police misconduct and stripping for a bust is about zero. Also, WGs/johns should ALWAYS beware people who insist on talking about money for services beforehand. They like to talk about "$x for serviceY" so it's on tape. They don't like getting cozy first in any way, shape, or form. They also like to control the situation. They don't like moving to another location, etc. Edit: hmm, after reading the article, I'll have to look into the law, I guess. Still sounds like BS to me, but the article definitely asserts that the cops can commit the crimes they're supposedly preventing. Absurd, if you ask me. And frankly, only complete idiots believe the "cops have to tell you they're cops if you ask" myth. Dumbest thing I've ever heard. Cops are free to lie their asses off to suspects about almost anything. They can lie to you about what's legal and what's not, etc. Perfectly legitimate in the eyes of the law.Only suckers pay that, or rich guys who go to the very high end WGs. 185 isn't too far from the going hourly rate. 500 is way, way above the going rate. It's unskilled labor. Most unskilled laborers don't make 185 bucks in 18 hours, and they're actually working, not lying on their backs.$185 seems awfully low and I knew escorts who charged something like $500 hour

Of course. I can pay to have someone rub my entire body in oil head to toe, but if they stop and pay some attention to one spot on my body, all hell breaks loose, laws broken, judeo christian values challanged, blah blah blah. Complete bunch of irrational illogical BS. If it's between two consenting adults, have at it for $$ or free (and we all know aint nothin' actually free in this life...) and move onto MUCH more pressing problems facing humanity.
