    Default vitamins n minerals you take daily?

    i take biotin, licopene, fish oil, flax seed oil, and a pre natal ( do you think a prenatal is too strong for somebody who isn't pregnant? i just hear they give you the extra punch) daily. i was taking collagen til i learned it doesn't work in vitamins or in skin creams due to their unusual properties what do you guys take daily, or weekly?

    nothing right now. thnx for reminding me though, biotin, prenatals do work (food based), one a day for women and iron

    I try to get most of my nutrition through food, since not all supplements even digest or contain what they allege to. Since giving up vegetarianism, it has been a lot easier. I still take fish oil and B12. I'm thinking of adding some Vitamin D since I probably don't get much. I try to make sure my diet has protein (lots), garlic, vitamin c, Greek yogurt, flax, and chia. I had a bunch of people recommend some supplements and herbs to me in my thread about weight loss for the caffeine-sensitive, so I may look into some of those as well.

    I take a multi vitamin that has an arrangement of herbs in it, a lysine supplementt that has extra herbs in it ( lysine helps me prevent cold sores) , an allergy pill, and concerta. my brain is like a Bing commercial if I don't take my add meds.

    At the moment all I take is a multi-vitamin aimed at skin, hair and nails.

    How long ago did you contract the virus? Have you gotten a lot of cold sores? Typically when people contract the herpes virus they have less and less outbreaks over time... like for example, you may have a few the first year and then not got them barely ever; some people never get another outbreak after there first one. Nevertheless, about half of all Americans get cold scores (the herpes virus) and it's estimated that up to 90 percent of all people will contract it by age 50. A lot of people who have don't show any symptoms. Lysine is helpful, and there are prescription meds that can also greatly decrease the frequency and severity of cold sores.

    Taking a probiotic daily is great . Also, Vitamin D is great for shift workers like us that might not get enough direct sunlight. If you drink at work, something to aid your liver is a good idea i.e. Liver Detox Tablets or Milk Thistle etc

    I take B complex, phytospecifc vitamins for hair and skin care, I was taking tonalin but it broke me out like crazy I mean nasty cystic pimples ughhhh, so im thinking about including fish oil again in regimen. My scalp is flaky and dry and has been this way for a while so im thinking its internal, I hear fish oil helps with this? Also is there a such thing as taking too many? I used to take a whole bunch of stuff but then I would get headaches so I cut back.

    careful with the pre natal vitamins depending on your body type. I've heard they're great for your skin and nails and hair but also that they can make you gain a lot of weight, so maybe watch out for that one if that's an issue for you. I take b12, vitamin c, vitamin e and cold fx most days

    I've been taking magnesium to help with my anxiety and it's been helping a lot, I highly recommend it!

    Well for Vitamin D, you should go with D3, its the better one over the D2 (the D3 is more like what you get from sun exposure). Theres no way to know your D level with out being tested, so youre just going to have to wing it. You dont want to overdo it because that can be dangerous. Adults need around 5000IUs of vitamin D. Thats from sun and food sources.

    The recommended safe dose youll find from the FDA is 600IUs. They assume you get most from the sun and food and just need a bit more (600) from the supplement.

    However most people take supplements of around 2000IUs daily and get the rest from sun and food because they work in offices all day and dont get much sun or eat right.

    But like I said because you dont know your level, its kind of a shot in the dark. Personally I think you'll be fine taking 2000/day. To cause vit d toxicity youd have to take serious doses- like 50,000/day for months on end. Youd develop symptoms like poor appetite, nausea, weakness, and frequent urination, as it would cause a buildup of calcium in your blood. To fix it you would simply stop taking the vit D.

    As for taking prenatal vitamins: It can be a little dangerous. They have extra folic acid, and its very uncommon but too much folic acid can mask the symptoms of vitamin B-12 deficiency and delay diagnosis and treatment.

    It also has more iron then you need. Too much iron can build up in your body, causing constipation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

    You also have to check the calcium levels in the vitamins. Its designed as a supplement and not a total calcium source, so it probably only has 2-300mgs. So its not giving you all your calcium, or is throwing off your calcium numbers if youre taking another calcium pill.

    Fish oil has a great deal of benefits- a lot of studies show its helpful for depression and cardiovascular issues (cholesterol/asthma/cancer prevention- however like anything else theres studies that show its not). But it can cause some people stomach upset. They have a few brands that are labeled 'burpless'. They are a bit milder on your stomach and cost the same, but just as potent.

    Also for tuesdays I dont know how caffeine sensitive you are- but theres a very healthy tea you can drink that has tremendous health benefits. it helps in reducing cholesterol, burning fat, treating digestive disorders, strengthening the immune system, strengthening bones and helping to reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Its beneficial for treating skin problems such as eczema and rashes, it may lower the risk of high blood pressure, and cause a significant drop in blood sugar levels.

    I drink it when dieting and lose about 2lbs more a month on average vs when I dont drink it. Its labeled a green tea, although its not quite a green tea and its not a black tea- its made from the plant they come from so its blend- but it looks green. Its got about 50mgs of caffeine in it. (which is about 1/2 the caffeine in a can of coke) Its called Oolong tea. Its hard to find in big name supermarkets but its available on ebay and its reasonably priced at around 4 bucks a box for tea bags, or you can buy loose tea and steep it yourself. You may also be able to find it in health food shops.

    I didn't even know Magnesium can help with anxiety until reading this post and then googling. Thanks for mentioning it. I've struggling with anxiety my whole life, I take xanax (alprozolam) now for my anxiety but it can be addictive which isn't something I want to worry about (plus it makes me drowsy). I will have to try Magnesium.

    unfortunately i can't keep any weight on, i went down to a size 1 pants again and im pissed! i'd love to gain weight, nothing seems to help tho

    theres a chick at my club that started prenantals and increased her boob size by two cups and a couple inches around the waist but no where else. i was amazed. it prob had more to do w her body type than the prenatals but..yea some ppl can gain weight

    Ive tried the prenatal and folic. And also tried them separate. Both made me have spotting and in between periods, that's why I tried them separate to see which one was causing the spotting, and both do. I do not recommend unless you are pregnant. If you want something for hair and nails just take the biotin. If you want to look like you got implants try Alesse birth control. I don't know if still make them, but they are a low something kind of birth control. I quit taking them because it was uncomfortable having my boobs swell so much worried about stretch marks or or theaftermath after not being on them long term. But, my god it was unreal!!!

    yeah same here i avoid the sun like the plague!! i feel like a vampire, i put on spf 30 every. single. day as well as hat and glasses at all times. D3 may be a good idea

    well sounds like they're perfect for you! If you're trying to gain weight have you tried different types of birth control pill? All three types I tried made me gain so I'm sure you could find one that would help! And they always make your boobs grow

    i was on depo a few years ago and it didn't really do anything..recently my body has just gone crazy if im on hormonal birth control to the point where i can't get out of bed without puking, it sucks. im going to give it another go in a bit though!

    I take fish oil too Magnesium is just something new I've tried recently that's really helped! I'm all about the natural supplements vs. prescription medication!
