Default Musical Genre Popularity In and Outside of Strip Clubs.

    According to this site:

Rock, alternative, R&B, Country and Metal all exceed Rap and Techno/Electronic as popular forms music by the most important factor- sales.

So why is Rap and Techno the most popular forms of music in strip clubs? Is it solely due to these forms of music being the easiest or best genres to dance to? Or is it representative of the musical preference of women dancing in strip clubs? That is, women who prefer Rap and Techno are more likely to become strippers than the other groups?

Btw, this is only considering clubs where the dancer, and not the dj, chooses the songs.

Some of the places I have been, the ‘music’ was so bad, I assumed the club somehow got to use it without paying ASCAP royalties. It reminded me to the noise my power steering makes when the fluid gets low.

First the stats are only purchased music & the 2 you point out are probably downloaded the most off the net or copied, which wouldn't show sales. The other part of your question in my opinion , Rap & Techno are party atmosphere genres & easy to dance to. I think it would be silly to ask if that lends itself to becoming a stripper?

    Says you...

As with many things it's never a good idea to assume that your experiences at clubs in a certain area are similar every where else. Most of the clubs I go to in Mass, CT and RI don't actually allow rap music and the girls revolt and threaten a DJ with death and, worse, a small tip, if he plays any long techno songs. In fact, song length is limited in most of the clubs I go to.

I'm sure that rap is popular in some lower-end urban clubs but, after all, they are lower and and urban so I think the explanation is pretty, well, self-explanatory...

what is your definition of rap VS R&B? i don't really care the style, as long as its sexy. neither "ganster rap" or heavy metal is very sexy in my opinion, but the DJs play either for the crowd or by request of the dancers, i've only worked in one club where rap was forbidden

I'm going back several years but most of the clubs I worked at would not play most rap. They would either play alternative or classic rock with some R&B allowed. For me I danced mostly to alternative and by alternative I mean both the grunge bands popular in the 90's and the 80's alternative which was usually more dance orientated.

For the clubs I frequent it's almost always "hip-hop" rap. That's the best I can describe it. Whatever happens to be the most popular "hip-hop" music is what is played, unfortunately. Sometimes if I spend enough money on a dancer, and she is next for stage rotation, I can request the dancer ask the DJ to play a song I like that she won't mind dancing to. Then of course once she steps on stage and I hear the music, I naturally walk up and stage tip

My club lets the girls dance to whatever they want, as long as the songs aren't painfully slow. That means that almost everyone dances to hip-hop/R&B/rap shit that I can't stand. I'm actually one of the very few rock girls that dances at my club, and I won't hesitate to say that my music selection alone has made me tons and tons of money.

Firemaiden- bless your little heart. I wish there were more of girls like you in strip clubs.

^...I wouldn't base your thesis on that-in case you were planning on it .

But in all seriousness, most of these genres are upbeat, easy to dance to (have a good beat), are popular/people know the songs and associate them with "going out", they create a fun, "sexual"vibe and contain very suggestive lyrics . I personally wouldn't necessarily dance to these genres if I were given the chance (but it's probably a good things I don't get to choose ).
