Default Pros and Cons of a Dance Card

I couldn't find a thread this seemed to fit in, so I put it here. I am a Detroit dancer. I stopped for a few months to work full time in tech support and returned to my home club to find that all of the girls I worked with had left, guys were more grabby, extras (which are accepted by club management) are expected by customers and management, and fees had risen. I don't do extras and am strongly against them and am looking for a new club. All of the clubs in Detroit require a cabaret license to work in (all club staff - even bouncers need a license). So my question is, before I spend $200 on a dance card, what are the pros and cons? I have heard that getting a card will show up on background checks (even if the card has expired). I feel I can always say I worked as a waitress if it's ever discovered and questioned, but I am hoping some of you can share your experience and/or knowledge regarding this topic.

Run a search for licenses. The topic has been discussed quite extensively, including pros and cons and odds of it turning up in a background search - generally, the odds pretty minimal unless you're going for a high security clearance job in government. Usually, someone has to be specifically looking for it to find it.

However, I don't believe you could convincingly say you were a waitress with a cabaret license unless waitresses are actually required to have such a license. Like, if the name of your club showed up on your credit report or tax return, you could claim you were a waitress, but not if you have a license explicitly saying you were an entertainer.

Hmm, I couldn't find anything recent. Sorry for the repeated post. But all club employees within city limits have to have a card. Bouncers, kitchen staff, door girls, shot girls, and even valet. I looked it up and even saw some bouncers' cards when inquiring at one of the clubs.

Shanna is right in her first paragraph.

Regarding the waitresses needing one: I needed the dancer license to work as a waitress in a Phoenix club, so it does happen. I think they often just want to cover their ass, so that any scantily clad or nude female in the club is licensed as a dancer. I'm not sure if it's actually a city law though.
Both of my clubs also pay their employees under restaurant guises, so that would be what would come up if you listed it for a credit application (and hence got it put on your credit report, which is often pulled for background checks). Whether the club will even have to give you paystubs or a 1099 is based on if they report dancers' income and/or have to pay you out any money at any point.

There is a lot of info on the license issue... here's the threads that come to mind:

I personally am pre-medical (so entering a very conservative profession) and am not too concerned, just extremely careful regarding club busts; I follow the city rules to a point that I get made fun of, wearing a thong under booty shorts, not letting customers put tips in my garter, etc., all the little rules that other girls ignore and have been busted for in the past. I went over my personal experiences in that "No paper trail" thread; I have had 3 licenses in 2 cities and no issue so far with it; a state government agency has even hired me. Just watch your city ordinances VERY VERY carefully and behave yourself. I would NOT work in an extras club, because any bust could very likely get you swept up in it.

OP - this will vary on a city-by-city basis, so your best bet is to call the club and ask if waitresses have to get the same license as dancers. If so, like Selina's case, your cover up is golden.
