    Travel Moving to SoCal soon

I'm 18, and I'm getting kicked out of my parent's house right now. So I, not having much job experience, am extremely curious to start dancing. I figure if I have to start out on my own and get my life moving, I might as well go somewhere I want to end up. Knowing that Southern California is very expensive, I figured this might be just the thing. Now, I'm a very private and self conscious person, so I wondered if anyone else can relate to that and if they've gotten over it any from dancing. Also, when first moving out there what tips you could give me. Any places I should stay stray of, and maybe a few choices of clubs that would be better suited for me since I have no experience. I also worry that I won't make enough money to support myself. Anything you think might be helpful on getting me started would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It depends on where you're going in SoCal but it generally sucks here as far as dancing goes.

Lots of extras going on which makes it harder for girls who don't do extras to make money, especially in City of Industry. I ended up putting my dancing dreams on hold for the moment and took up camming instead after I scouted a ton of clubs. And not just clubs in LA, Glendale, San Diego (was willing to do the drive), Hollywood, Santa Monica, I scouted tons of places. Didn't like any of them for one reason or the other but then again I could just be really picky about having a clean and diverse space to work in.

Someone who is actually dancing here may have better advice and insight but that's just what I've noticed.

I honestly hate working in the LA metro area, it's dirty & most of the clubs out here are extras ridden so it's hard to make decent consistent money without wanting to punch most of the rude clientele in the throat LoL. I have yet to try Santa Barbara though, so on a lighter note it could be alot better than my past few years dancing experience out here. I suggest you do a search on here & try different places out. Good Luck !!!

Starting dancing as a self conscious person is either going to do wonders for your self esteem or eat you alive. Some clubs have a kinder atmosphere where you mostly hear compliments and kind words, while others are more cutthroat and full of patrons who get their rocks off by insulting the dancers. Even in the kinder club, you will be faced with constant rejection, and when you have low self esteem, it can be hard not to take it personally and tie your earnings to your self esteem. Tread carefully and get ready to grow a thick skin.

FWIW, I wouldn't recommend SoCal. It's expensive, it doesn't sound like you have a different job to fall back on, and dancing isn't that lucrative there. If dancing ends up not being for you, you'll be in a very sticky situation. Think about why you want to move to SoCal, and find a similar place with a lower cost of living. Try dancing there. If it goes well, great, on to SoCal! If it doesn't, at least you didn't waste all your money finding out.

I'll probably be coming out the beginning of summer if all goes well. I'd rather not live right in LA but it just depends on where I get a roommate, so I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
