Default Deranged customer shoots dancer in face, kills himself

I know the DJ in this club. He didn't post details yet, but here is the headline story:

    http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?se...ire&id=9069755

Thankfully the dancer is expected to live, though whether she will be able to work again after such an injury to the face is questionable, I imagine--and if she will ever want to again, after such a horrible experience.

This is why ALL customers should be checked for weapons at the door.

In another news story, the guy was a regular customer, & supposedly talking about how much he had spent on her. But if there's one thing I learned from my own experience with shootings from the clubs, it's that they often get the facts mixed up.

    Oh, didn't see it, thanks.

Really it belongs in Industry Issues or Stripping General, I suppose--since it's not about the customer experience and is directly related to the safety of female staff. And male staff as well; I've had 3 good friends shot from club shit, and one died from it.

Not to invalidate the very real threat to customers in even the nicer clubs.

Clearly, the moral of the story is 'Watch your ass in these places, there are crazy people here.' That goes for everyone. Especially if the club isn't doing enough to protect people, as has been the case in most clubs I have worked.

so fucked up some really sweet girls at my current club came from Rialto (and sometimes still dance there) and i would be so horrified if it happened to one of them. i know people everywhere are crazy, but Rialto is the freakin ghetto where people tote guns on a regular basis so this does not surprise me. I posted it in Customer Conversation because I have limited access to the forums and know I can make posts there. (I learned about the shooting from a friend who works at the club (but was not on shift last night).) I came here and posted it as soon as I learned about it.

Lawdude I didn't mean to imply you did anything wrong in the slightest. You are a customer and posted in the Customer area, so I'd be crazy to criticize you for that. It's not really a big deal where it goes, just so people are aware there's an issue in some clubs about protection.

I don't see anything wrong with having two threads, but if it seems weird we can always merge them.

Funny thing is, the Spearmint Rhino clubs (for those of you who don't know) tend to be very upscale. I heard from DJ friends that this one was exceptional. But you still hear about crazy shit going down at the better clubs too sometimes.

People always seem to expect this kind of violence from "low-scale" clubs, but there are crazy people at every level in society. This wasn't some gang shooting, this was a deranged customer who got obsessed and couldn't handle rejection. That's the scariest thing to me, that this wasn't just some random act, he targeted a specific girl.

Yeah, 'crazy' transcends all boundaries concerning wealth, education, attire, etc.

That being said, if a club has a lot of hardcore type customers and they are known to pack heat, something should be done.

I have worked in two what I call 'circus' clubs (where basically anything and everything can and will happen). Both had a lot of fights. The first one had several murders associated with the club in 10-12 years. The second didn't. The second has always used weapon detectors, and places a higher priority on having security at all times.

Doesn't tell us much too more. There is a video with a few details about the shooter:

I think clubs need to have at least the wand. It would make for a much safer environment.

^This. It's reassuring for staff members and customers alike. No one wants to either go to work or go out for the night and have to entertain the possibility of such preventable, unnecessary violence .

Also, if it had happened at a Bank or a Hair Salon it would horrify people. I hate the way that society doesn't care when sex workers are harmed and that they are "blamed" for their own misfortune (as if we are intentionally "playing with fire"). For example, I was in a café years ago reading an article about a Dancer that had been the victim of a homicide. Two women sitting at the table next to me were reading the same article in their paper when one of then said coldly, "No great loss! She deserved what she got!". My heart sank, this girl was friend of a girl I'd once worked with and was a Mother, a Wife and a final year University student. Sorry for the rant btw

Sad Re: Deranged customer shoots dancer in face, kills himself

I heard this incident on the news. But what puzzles me is that why didn't the door people have the customers searched or even had metal detectors? Certain strip clubs i've been to in the past would have door people or security have a scanner just in case. And this is in the suburbs. I feel scanners & metal detectors should be at all strip clubs. It's bad enough in rialto where police love to stop black people[that's what i've read/heard], but this incident too

I was bitten by a lady with a gov ID badge on the ass while dancing for her on the floor in a small floor dance only club. When it happened I nearly fell over the table, and I had the mark from her tern on my cheek for 6 weeks. It def took a hit on my earnings.

Most disturbingly though, I was the only one dancing on the floor and of the 2 floor security guards neither of them even noticed: (

...if ANYONE has any information about fund-raising efforts on behalf of the dancer who was assaulted, please post details. I'm extremely interested in helping to raise funds to cover this woman's medical expenses. Thank you.

This-often clubs are just trying to keep their overhead low, but even if it is a "fake" wand, it'll probably be enough to make non armed customers more comfortable and deter some armed patrons from coming inside. Not all, but some

What the fuck is wrong with adults who bite other people?! I've been bitten on the ass while on stage, too! I was having a great time dancing for a group of guys my co-worker/friend had in; we were all having fun with me laying out on the rack, being my sexy self and then her boyfriend (of all people?!) leaned into my ass and sunk his teeth into me! Reflexively, my leg went up right into his face and I kicked him square across the mouth with my 8" heels. I'm not a trained kicker or anything but let's just say I have great aim without having to think about it. Luckily, everyone saw it happen and my friend was totally appalled and bawled him out, right there. I was visibly shaken up about it but I didn't flip out because everyone was checking in with me and I felt really validated. But it happened with guys that I just relaxed with because I knew the dancer involved with them and assumed they'd have quasi-decent behavior with me! Suffice to say, my friend broke up with that guy not to long after. I was sort of grateful to her when she mentioned that instance as part of the reason she'd changed her mind about him.

I was also standing on stage, holding the pole when this guy stood up and hit me on the ass so hard, the entire club heard the sound of the smack and I had a visible hand print, immediately after. Oddly enough, I saw him leering at me and something told me he'd be the one to try something. When I saw him stand, I had a serious instinct and held on to the pole really securely. The stage was one that was very high-elevated and if I hadn't been holding on, I could have fallen nearly 5 feet down to the ground. I'm a very small woman and this guy was huge. He could have seriously injured me. The bouncer was awesome and threw him out, immediately. He was with a group of young women who tried to be polite but kept excusing the behavior as "Oh, he didn't mean anything by it! He's just having fun! He's just drunk!". They did not see anything inherently wrong with their friend's actions, at all and thought I was just being some bitchy kill-joy. I think that disappointed me most of all.

This is an example of what I mentioned in the other thread of people feeling completely entitled to hurt sex workers, while we're on the job in our own environments. We can never anticipate who's going to randomly decide they want to assert control over our bodies at any time. We just have to cross that bridge, each time when we come to it, sometimes several times a night.

    Holy shit!

The one time I was bitten (and I mean bitten HARD!!!) it was a female customer doing the biting.

She bit my ass... I had a bruise for two weeks. What is wrong with people?

The 'spanking entitlement' thing has always pissed me off as well. It's demeaning and almost always done by guys trying to show off how cool/studly they are.

So trivial, relatively speaking, as to be meaningless in the context of this horrible incident of course.

One of my least favorite things about working in this business, having to watch guys thinking this is somehow OK.

One of the coolest dancers I know has a great way to deal with it. If a guy spanks her or grabs her ass while she walks by, she turns around and says 'That'll cost you a dollar.' She says it with a smile and a friendly tone of voice. But if the guy doesn't cough up the fucking dollar, she knows security will back her up & make the guy leave.

It's still disgusting that guys think it's OK, and it's still trivial compared to what happened to that poor woman in Rialto. Just a small way to take the Power back.

The club needs to be consistent with it however. I read where this nutcase was a club regular. I know a couple of clubs out here that use the wand for security, but if your a regular they just wave you thru.
