Default Would you do it all again?

I have been dancing since 2004. It has been a crazy ride, good and bad. I would definitly do it all again given the chance. I think I have grown more from being in this industry than I could have ever guessed possible. I started dancing to fix the transmission on my car and 9 years later am still in it. So girls would you do it all over again? Do you have regrets? My only one is not saving more. Do you think dancing has made you a better or worse person. I think over all it's made me smarter about people and their intentions. What age were you and do you think that you were mature enough for the adult industyr? I was 21 and obviously had a lot to learn but I think at 21 having worked since I was 16 I was better off than the girls I see coming in at 18 straight out of high school. I hope you girls share. I just want to thank Stripperweb for being there from the beggining. I have avoided some really dumb mistakes thanks to the wise words from some of the women and men on here. Thank you all so much.

I started 2 years ago and I agree, its made me a much smarter person about who people really are and intentions they have. I started because I needed to find an apartment asap and I couldn't go through waiting to be hired and wait on a paycheck. I was called back and was hired for a job but I declined because stripper money was way way better.

I danced for about 3 years before my dreadful hiatus, and the only thing I would change about it was coming back to my hometown instead of staying with a friend in the city. If I had just stayed there, I would still be dancing, instead of being forced to stop when my local dive was closed. Other than that, I wish I had handled my finances a little better.

Being an exotic dancer had a lot of positive effects on my life, ranging from more independence, self-esteem, and self-worth.
Exotic dancing is like any other job.
If you work in an office, you wear dress shoes and a suit.
If you work in a restaraunt, you wear skid resistant shoes and a uniform.
If you work in a strip club, you wear 7" stilettos and lycra g-strings.

I would definitely do it all again! I can't imagine dancing not being a part of my life over the past few years. I am facially stable and comfortable because of it. It's supported me through my studies, it's made me grow as a person and accept myself and my body, it's given me some very close friends, allowed me to travel and it's given me an insight into men that I otherwise wouldn't have (in a positive way). The only regret I have is that I wasted my hard earned money by letting myself be finically taken advantage of by my ex fiancé (this was over 2 years ago). I was "young and dumb" and it's a lesson learnt.

Dancing has changed my life It managed to bring me out of a deep dark depression, and into one of the happiest points I have ever been at in my life. I would not change a thing.

I'll take an ( admittedly 'spoiled' ) contrary position ... that the actual after-tax earnings potential available from exotic dancing today, in relation to the amount of contact now expected by club customers in order to persuade them to spend big money, is far worse today than when I first started dancing 15+ years ago.

Additionally, between dancers' license requirements creating a public record of having worked as a 'stripper', strip club related 1099 tax info finding it's way into the hands of prospective straight job employers, leaving a 'paper trail' of having worked in the adult entertainment industry that could interfere with a straight career etc., entering the exotic dancing industry today involves many 'risks' that did not exist when I first started dancing 15" years ago.

So to answer your question, under today's conditions I would have to think very long and very hard before becoming an exotic dancer.

I agree with Melonie. I danced in an era of corporate accounts, no contact clubs and no paperwork trails except for the clubs that paid me (and they never used a dancing name). I doubt that I would want to dance today and have to do something that bothers me, like allowing touching on the nipples, only to have a paper trail when an employer from a non dancing job declines me for a job.

However I'm not sure I would have done it again. I would have saved more than I did instead of buying things I didn't need. I enjoyed the money I made but it did wreck havoc on my romantic relationships for years and I often met men who only wanted to date me because I was a stripper and many men who rejected me because of it. One of the smartest things I did though was switch from full time dancing to part time so I could work a corporate job during the day. Not sure what would have happened if I spent all the years dancing full time without a fall back.

This is an industry where you either need to work hard as fuck or not even enter it at all. I would have to think long and hard. Its something I wanted to try and wanted to do though. So I'm glad I got the experience.

i started at 23 and i wish to GOD i had started earlier!! i just didn't have the balls to, and that i regret..so many wasted years i could have legally stripped. i'd definitely to it all again, its made me stronger, richer, smarter, boosted my self esteem..the only other thing i regret is when i first started i let way too many things slide and let customers do things i wasn't comfortable with because im a very sweet "people pleaser" by nature. i just couldn't say no. i also regret buddying up to the wrong girls at the club. there are still things i need to work on, like not exhausting myself so much or letting this industry make me feel old and jaded..but all in all a very good experience

My only regret is not starting earlier. But, I started dancing in the midwest and it's very different from Rhode Island, which is where I used to live. I've been dancing about 4 years, and it has made my life easier. But it would have been nice to have more time dancing before I became a mom. I love that I'm a stay at home mom who picks when I want to work. It would have been nice to do that years ago!

no, I wouldn't. I totally believe it can be awesome for some people but I'm not cut out for it. I hate hustling, i'm an introvert, and I don't have a thick enough skin to take gross and/or nasty comments from customers night after night and not let it turn me into a nasty bitter asshole. I loved it for the first few months, and then the novelty wore off and i was like '...oh shit'.

I kept going for 3 more years because I was stubborn- even though I wasn't enjoying it and wasn't making great money, I saw that other people were banking and was determined to 'crack' it and have the same success as they were having. If i could go back with the knowledge that i have now, I would beat myself over the head and make myself realize that not everyone can handle this job and if you can't, that's okay! And I would tell my former stupid self that if you hate what you're doing, you're never going to make a thousand dollars in a night like other people are, so give it the fuck up and do something that's a better fit for you instead of wasting years trying to make it work.
