    Hi ladies!

Reading SW during my time dancing has been such an amazing help and support for me! I really hope y'all can help get me on the right track and calm my worries for my first Strip Trip!

So... I've stayed in the midwest so far in my career. Comfortable and fairly predictable, I guess. I'm most successful in higher end clubs, and I'm comfortable with a variety of hustling situations, VIP, etc. I decided to spread my wings this spring and start traveling... yahoo!

I was all prepared and excited to make my first trip to NYC (after reading lots of wise advice here!)... and I just found out the location for my first adventure has been changed to Houston! My head is swimming because I want SO much to be prepared and successful my first time on the road!

Here's what I do know. I won't be in a club requiring the Houston license card or latex. I won't need a TX driver's license. The first club I'm auditioning at is Gold Cup.

Here's what I don't know yet and what I'm worrying about...
*What should I expect for the audition process? (I'm assuming it's not the NYC "sway and pose" deal! Lol)
*Are there particular quirks or insider tips I should have tucked into my arsenal for auditions or hustle?
*What other clubs should I have on my list?
*Is Gold Cup still outside the range of the Houston drama I've read so much about?
*Are there any special legal hot buttons I should know about at the moment?
*Is Gold Cup considered a "gown" club, and is the Houston definition of a gown club similar to NYC?
*Are there tip out oddities or conventions I should know about in Houston?
*Are there certain wardrobe/thong rules I need to be aware of? Length, see-through, opaque, size, straps, etc?
*Would you consider Gold Cup (or similar recommendations) high or medium contact?
*Are there biz license or background check requirements similar to Dallas?
*What jurisdiction (county, city, etc) should I contact if I come up with more questions?

So far in my hunt for information, I have read Houston club reviews and looked for every Houston related post I could find over the last 4 months in Stripping General, Club Chat, and Hustle Hut. Unfortunately, I can't get the search to work properly in my browser so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage seeking information. And I wanted to ask here before I started making phone calls to make sure I'm calling all the right places.

Ladies, I'll be forever in your debt for your feedback and for links to threads I haven't found yet!!! I'm suddenly feeling so unsure about this trip and my ability to succeed. And I'm more nervous after what I've read so far on Houston. I'm feeling like a beginner all over again with all the uncertainty, but I know so many of you have jumped to a new city or new state successfully... and I'd love to borrow a little of your mojo

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Not sure how much help I can be, since you're looking mostly for information about Gold Cup, but I was a Houston dancer.

The "higher end" clubs I'm aware of in the Houston area are Treasures, Gold Cup, Men's Club, and St James. Of these four, the very first to knock off is Treasures- it's a whore house.

Gold Cup and Men's Club are both pastie/latex clubs. All clubs in the Houston city limits are pastie and full back bottom clubs that don't require a license, or full nude that do require a license. As far as I'm aware, both clubs have a fairly loose dress code, as far as clubs with dress codes go- one piece outfits/dresses (not necessarily gowns) during the week, and two pieces are permitted on the weekends- but I'm not 100% certain.

St James is a topless club that requires an opaque "regulation" thong. Last I looked into it, you did not need a license there because it's outside Houston city limits. From what I've read and heard from girls who have worked there, it's a low to medium mileage club overall. Also is apparently a good money making place (I've heard on several occasions that if you get off a shift with less than $200, the problem is with YOU). No real dress code besides your shoes and "regulation" thong.

All the clubs I've auditioned at just looked me over in my street clothes, then told me to go put on an outfit in the dressing room where they would come have a look to either confirm or second guess their initial decision. From all the Houston girls I've personally known, that seems to be the standard way of doing things.

There's also Colorado (which has been the discovery ground for a couple of Playmates, and a friend used to try talking me into switching to, but I was happy at my hole-in-the-wall) and Centerfolds.

As for which jurisdiction to speak with, I would first contact Harris County and then Houston (but do check with both and make sure you get the name of whoever you speak with!).
Exotic dancing is like any other job.
If you work in an office, you wear dress shoes and a suit.
If you work in a restaraunt, you wear skid resistant shoes and a uniform.
If you work in a strip club, you wear 7" stilettos and lycra g-strings.

    Naida,
Thank you! I'm so glad I came here first! You helped me take a breath and start thinking rationally again

I was told Gold Cup was outside city limits, but it looks like that was bogus info. I think I need to re-read that Houston info again.

So now that I've been corrected on several items, what else should I know, ladies?

Any clubs outside of city limits (St. James, Joy of Houston, Houston Dolls) require a license now.

Gold Cup is inside city limits and you'll need latex and full bottoms. It's a pretty safe bet. The other clubs you might look into are Treasure's and The Men's Club. Treasure's dealt with a lot of legal shit earlier last year because, yes, it was a whore house. I've heard it's cleaner there now, but most of the money that came in has cleared out and moved elsewhere.

Clubs in Houston are high contact. You can definitely make money as a clean dancer, but you'll still deal with a decent amount of people wanting more. Just have solid boundaries and don't be shy if someone is making you uncomfortable.

This is correct. (As is the other information!)

*What should I expect for the audition process? (I'm assuming it's not the NYC "sway and pose" deal! Lol)

At Gold Cup, you will not audition. You will meet the managers and they will hire you (hopefully!) in your street clothes. Don't bother showing up before 7PM if you want to work nights, as the hiring manager won't be there early, even by 15-30 minutes.

*Are there particular quirks or insider tips I should have tucked into my arsenal for auditions or hustle?

One of the managers (the one who hired me but I forget his name) can be quite a dick. He tried to tell me managers require their own separate tip each night on top of house fees. I left to check out another club and when I went back a few months later, he forgot to tell me that super important fact. Don't let him hustle you out of your money.

*What other clubs should I have on my list?

Treasure's and Men's Club. Maybe Crazy Horse in Baytown.

*Is Gold Cup still outside the range of the Houston drama I've read so much about?

Largely, yes. It's a pretty decent club.

*Are there any special legal hot buttons I should know about at the moment?

We have a lot of screwy laws like the three-foot rule. Everyone breaks them, but that doesn't mean you aren't assuming the risk each time you do it.

*Is Gold Cup considered a "gown" club, and is the Houston definition of a gown club similar to NYC?

They used to have some rule about gowns during the week and daytime, but I'm not sure if it's still actively enforced. I would call and check if I were you. Weekends at night, anything that's legal (full bottoms + latex) is fine.

*Are there tip out oddities or conventions I should know about in Houston?

The house fee goes up from I think $35 starting at 7PM. You have to be ready at 7 to pay that, and it goes up every hour. I don't think it goes above $100 but I never got there late.

*Are there certain wardrobe/thong rules I need to be aware of? Length, see-through, opaque, size, straps, etc?

You have to wear full bottoms and you cannot layer a thong or anything under it. It's illegal, for who the fuck knows why.

*Would you consider Gold Cup (or similar recommendations) high or medium contact?

It's decent for Houston's standards. By that I mean that it's not a club guys go to fully expecting to get fucked for $50. They will expect to touch, but I never saw anything awful there.

*Are there biz license or background check requirements similar to Dallas?

If they did a background check on me, they didn't tell me. I had to give them my license and my social security card, so it's possible. I didn't pay anything for it though.

*What jurisdiction (county, city, etc) should I contact if I come up with more questions?

    Harris County, I think.

The "edit" option is being screwy and I forgot to add: I'm not sure if this is still a thing, but when I was there (within the last year), if you work Sunday, there's no house fee if you show up when the club opens. I think it's pretty low throughout the day even if you show up later.

And you can tip the DJ $20 to stay off rotation. They open up a lot of small stages if it gets really busy, so when there are a lot of customers but not a lot of girls (so lots of stages and the rotation is going by quickly), it's usually worth it if you don't like stage.

Thanks for the update, lapis. It seems that Harris County likes to bounce back and forth on the licensing issue for clubs outside Houston city limits, even though Houston itself has stayed consistent. I've been told that there was licensing before living there, then no licensing while I lived there, and now it's licensing again. MAKE UP YOUR MINDS!

And thank you, marie, for giving Gold Cup specific info.

I would like to say that Houston isn't as bad as it's made out to be, because H-town is one of the nearest and dearest places to my heart, but that would halfway be a lie. BUT, I can say that most of the nicer clubs don't have serious mileage issues right out in the open. Once you're in a dance, you can set your own limits even if the customers expect high mileage. Even at my hole-in-the-wall (which was surprisingly low on extras as far as I'm aware while I was there, especially considering the area and previous management), I managed to make decent money as a "clean", low to moderate mileage dancer. So don't let the city's rep turn you off.

Granted, there's a different hustling style for us clean girls with all the high mileage/dirty girls around. More than once, I had to walk a fine line of letting a customer think he might get extras without saying anything that would legally constitute soliciting in order to sell VIP time. Even when I didn't have to do that sort of thing, just "wanna dance" or typical hustle, I can't tell you how many times a guy got VIP/CR and walked out when he realized I wasn't going to be doing the dirty song and dance.

Lapis, Tuesday, Naida... Thank you! You're FANTASTIC!

Thank you also for the reassurance about sticking to my boundaries for dancing clean. I agree that it changes the dynamics a little, but it always helps to hear that, yes, it's okay to not feel bad about not giving in to pressure!

I have a few more questions after reading what you shared....

    * Regarding the three foot rule, what is the current interpretation of it? Am I allowed inside the boundary for a few seconds at a time? Does it mean there's no sitting on a custie's lap to chat, for example? Would something like allowing a custie to pull the string on my top (on stage or during a dance) be against the rules?

    * Besides the three foot rule and no layering a g-string underneath (whose genius idea was that?), are there any other surprising rules that I might overlook as an outsider or that I should ask a "legal beagle" to clarify?

    * Would something like a hand massage (like we get during a manicure) or shoulder rub be breaking the rules? ( And, no, that's not code for extras! Lol!)

    * Do you recommend a particular store locally for latex or any other supplies? I haven't found it up here where I usually go.

    Thank you so much!!!

I'm really not clear on where the three-foot law is drawn, to be honest. You definitely are not allowed to sit in laps, but like I said before, most if not all girls do. It sounds totally ridiculous, but I am fairly certain coming into any contact with a customer is against the law. Some will say it's just when you're performing, but I'm pretty sure someone trying to entrap you will say you're always performing when talking to a customer, if that's the case. The laws here change, as well as what is actually enforced. So while it is overwhelmingly likely you will have no issues even if you break every SOB law here, if you think about the reality of the situation--that you could get arrested and have major problems for taking a tip that's handed to you (it was illegal at one point; I don't know if it still is)--it's scary. When they did the Treasures bust, don't get me wrong, that place was dirty as was rumored. But in the articles about it, an arresting office said girls were breaking rules such as getting too close. So while I'm sure many of the arrested dancers were prostituting in the club, some of them were just putting a toe over the line at the wrong place/time. I really think bunny8558 might have some better answers about Houston's laws for you, or she might be able to direct you to where she gets her information.

Cindie's will have the latex as well as basic full bottoms that are worn here. Be warned: I have yet to see an ass that those things flatter. When I first met my boyfriend and told him about stripping, I comforted him by showing him what I had to wear. Some girls wear cheekies or things like that, but apparently even that minor thing is illegal.

    TuesdayMarie, thank you

I understand. Loud and clear. I need to be extra cautious and look carefully at the risks attached to my interactions. Something that's tame up here could throw big red flags down there.

I will look up Bunny as you suggested. I've read a lot of what she has posted... scary stuff to a traveler.

And thanks for warning me how "delightfully attractive and flattering" the bottoms are! Lol!

do the clubs actually enforce the full bottoms law or do they leave it up to the dancer to make sure she has "regulation panties" on. Seems weird if they turn a blind eye to fucking & sucking which is actually illegal everywhere but insist on enforcing some bizarre bikini bottom law that is not even in effect anywhere else in America! Lol

    Ladies,

Where do I get the license I need to dance in Houston? Must I go in person or can I get it online ahead of time? Is it like Vegas where I need to bring a sheet from the club that hired me to get a license, or do I need the license before the club can hire me?

Also, are there two different licenses for City of Houston and Harris County?

    Thank you

I've seen girls wearing cheekies and other such full-coverage panties that weren't "regulation," but if you tried to go on the floor in a thong or something like that, you would be sent back to change. If there's a raid, you would get in trouble if you were wearing anything that didn't fully cover your butt. Some clubs have little plastic forms with what has to be covered to be legal, and it's the entire bottom half of the breast and nipple and your entire butt, without even a bit of cheeks showing.

    @Quinn: I'm not sure about the licenses--sorry!

I'm not sure about the club scene here in Houston, know it's pretty plentiful but also heard many of the same things that are listed in this post. I'm actually replying because I am looking for private party dancers. Please let me know if you are interested. I train all new girls so you'll feel comfy and confident. Please visit my site, I really do need good, reliable, professional dancers. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you.

I've never heard that from other dancers or managers, and I've definitely seen/worn heels higher than five inches. It could be a rule and it's just not known (wouldn't be the first time in Houston), but I don't think it is. Which store did you go to? The workers at Cindie's and Erotic Cabaret have not been remotely informed on SC laws any time I've spoken to them. They act like they're selling dildos and platforms to church-goers only and seem oblivious when I ask if they carry regulation thongs/full bottoms. I don't understand working in a costume/sex shop and not being informed about the sex industry, but oh well...
