    Default Getting fit before starting

I don't know if this is the right forum for this question, but I need to get fit and tone up if I were to start dancing.
Does dancing help you lose a lot of weight?
Also, I'm 18 and I do have some stretch marks from growing and some weight problems when I was younger. They're faint and white, however I don't know if that would be a problem. If a guy notices will it turn him off and will I not make as much money?

    Thanks!

no, i have stretch tears, not marks, tears in my stomach from getting pregnant as a teenager and they don't show in the black lights and easily covered with sally hansen spray tan and makeup. dancing has made me lose a ton of fat, but not weight..makes you gain muscle and tone up! maybe just start hitting the gym to prepare yourself ( you WILL be sore as hell your first week) but i'd just start dancing and you'll get fit while earning money

^Dancing will definitely help you tone up and ultimately help you to lose weight. If you are worried that you might not be hired at a particular club due to your weight, then why not work at a dive or lower end club while you learn the ropes and tone up?

Also, the club lighting is VERY forgiving and men are not as critical of our bodies as we are! Tan also helps to cover up imperfections, such as stretch marks, cellulite, etc (I'd recommend a wash off tan like Sally Hansen Airbrush legs ).

    Good luck .

How much extra weight is acceptable? I know it varies and the lighting is forgiving, but I'm at 140lbs (5'7"), when my ideal weight is 120lbs.. I'm planning on dancing when I've shed my weight (been doing a lot of cardio, stretching and watching my food). Could I start sooner rather than later?

Dancing does help you lose weight but it is NOT a substitute for regular exercise and eating right. I hear so many people say "Oh, it's OK! You'll lose the weight when you start." It just gives the potential dancer the impression of false hope and if they don't get hired they'll feel like shit. It depends on the type of club and clientele you're going after. I've been contemplating Delilah's in Philly but I'm still hesitant. Would I have gone in there when I was Miss Porky 2012? Fuck no!

I've stated before I don't want to be "acceptable". I want to be knock out fucking fabulous.

140 llbs at 5'7 doesn't sound too bad. Taller people can get away with more. You can theoretically start anytime you want, but your options will be limited depending on the clubs around you. I always say the fitter and more toned you are the more doors you can fit through. People don't like to hear it but it's the damn truth especially in this industry. A lot of doors were slammed in my face when I was a chub-chub.

Hahahaha ms porky 2012 gave me a chuckle. I'll probably tone up more just for confidence sake! Thanks for the honest reply.

My journey over 2 years. I was fucking disgusting after my BA. I suffered from a case of Perpetual Open Mouth Syndrome and all it got me was gaining 20 llbs and feeling like shit about myself. It took 2 years of hard work, discipline, and making sacrifices.

140lbs at 5'7" can be held alright, but a photo would help; you don't have to include your face if you prefer. My weight has ranged from 113lbs to 145lbs at 5'7". I carry weight mostly in my ass, so I looked okay at my heaviest. But I did not feel okay physically and I was also insecure. My experience was that even men at parties and on the streets noticed me more when I was 125lbs and under. At 145, they still said I was attractive, definitely didn't need to lose any weight, blahblahblah. But the differing reactions at either end of my weight spectrum spoke for themselves, and I know that I am more attractive at ~120lbs than I ever was at 145. It is likely that you will have a similar experience, and while you are probably okay to dance at many places now, you will have more opportunities at peak physical condition. Just make sure if you start dancing now you don't screw up your diet and exercise by drinking all night at the club.

Thankfully I cannot dance for at least a few more months because of privacy reasons, so I have that time to get into shape. I danced once before, and think it is best to just go out there and go for it, & you can get in shape while you make moneys$$, but I'm relieved I can't

Anyway, SO how I've been working out at home and getting into shape is first of all by putting awesome music on(iheartradio app) and changing the station dozens of times a day LOL. Then I work out to the music, and I have a paper that I made a grid on that has things like crunches and lunges on it...(Squats, Stretching, Pilates moves) and I list each day of the week how many I do of them. Helps me to feel more motivated seeing what I did the day earlier and not wanting to ruin my cycle. MY FAVORITE WAY THO, is to play an awesome song that makes you feel pumped or sexy or dancing emotions, and start dancing at the beginning.. Practice dance moves and don't allow yourself to stop moving until the song is completely over. Do this several times a day and you'll Definitely start seeing results! Good Luck!!

Thanks! I'll have to go get that sallys wash off spray tan and give it a try. I've been doing thigh and tummy workouts and also trying to cut back on eating so much. I don't know my exact weight, I might be 160 and I'm around 5'8". I pull it off okay, I'm just not tone AT ALL lol. Most of my weight goes into my thighs, so that's a big problem to me.

I wish I carried my weight in my ass! haha here are recent shots. I'm a bit soft around the edges, can't wait to tone up.

It's there when I sit! The little belly pooch from having a baby. But nursing has helped slowly shed weight, just ready to kick it into gear! But thanks ladies! I definitely feel more excited and ready to start dancing.

I think if you got a tan you could go in now(we all look better with a little color) and work and just continue on your weight loss/workout goals, in my opinion I dont think it will take you long at all to get to your goal. btw The boobs look great

I did 2 hours of cardio a day on the elliptical and stairclimber, then scaled down to 90 mins with a half hour of weights. I do the Roman chair, situps, exercise ball, crunches.

You look good. If you're still self conscious tone up your tummy. Your arms are nice as well.
