I had a split lip this week because of how chapped my lips were. I just bought some burts bees beeswax lip balm from ralphs and it worked just great. I also recommend the body shop hemp lip protector as a staple.

I make my own and it's really nice because it's not only super nourishing and does not contain ANY chemicals, but it's shiny like a gloss
I buy shea butter at the local natural foods store (the only ingredient should be shea butter), and vitamin E capsules and avocado oil. I microwave the shea butter until it's liquid, then pour a few spoonfulls of avocado oil in, then poke holes in maybe 10 or so vitamin E capsules and empty those into the shea butter as well. Then, I stir it up really well and fill an old eyeshadow container (the "pot" kind) with the mixture and let it cool to solidify. It works awesome as a lip moisturizer and all the ingredients are great for skin and lips! It lasts a long time, you can wear it under lipstick/lipgloss, and it probably works out to be cheaper than buying chapstick all the time. More environmentally friendly, too! Try it outWhole Foods is a good place to look, along with local natural food stores. I recommend not letting the balm get too warm (don't leave it in your car or pocket) if you try this.

Two things:
1) Nipple cream - found some at Walgreens in the baby isle, near where the formula is. It's what women use when they're breast feeding, made with pure lanolin I believe.
2) Aquaphor (I think that's how it's spelled) - it's a very, very thick Vaseline.
3) It costs a lot but IT WORKS - Neosporin night treatment. Don't put straight Neosporin on your lips, it doesn't work as well. But if you get this night treatment stuff, I swear you'll be better in 3 days.
4) Another thing I do is, before I get into the shower, I SLATHER my lips w/Vaseline - near the end of the shower, I rub my washcloth over my lips (rinsed washcloth of course!) - gets rid of the flakes and peeling.
5) And of course, drink water. I live in the desert so I feel your pain!
I know this sounds werid but I but vick's chest rub on my lips. I have very sensitive skin and my lips get very dry then it starts to hurt. Chap stick only smooth the lip for a little bit but for the vicks chest rub helps me so a lot.
I have gotten very few cases of bad chapped lips in my life. The last time a girl at work told me to try http://www.blistex.com/index.php?opt...d=65&Itemid=69
It is the one in a tube. I usually only do natural remedies:-/ I used it because I was desperate. I was cured in 2 days and never used it again.

aveda has an awesome lip balm

Aquaphor is the 1!

Burt's Bees and Vitamin E Lotion work for me. Burt's Bees burns me (Chap Stick and Carmex do too, if that's any gauge) but it seems to help. Vitamin E Lotion is much less burny. If my lips get really bad I sleep with Vaseline really thick over my lips -- works for lines around the eyes, too.

I'm allergic to soy, and when I eat some by mistake (as its in every commercial food product it seems) my lips get huge, then crack and peel. It's really disgusting. So far, the most attractive and non-irritating, even moisturizing lip stuff I've found is Stila Lip Glaze. Burt's bees came in weird colors for me (you may have luck w them) and anything slightly tingly was horrible. MakeupAlley says ELF has a comparable product that is cheaper but I haven't run out of the Stila yet (I bought a set on Amazon) to say if it really is as gentle or not. Also, huge variety of colors!

Personally, I like paw paw ointment. Bees wax based products are good too.
