Default Hiring on a driver/ safety person

    Hi!

So, I work indepently and am looking to make my work safer for myself. I aapproached a friend about being a safety check/driver type thing. Basically, I would like him to come along with me to clients and wait around as I work, just so there is someone there to intervene if things go bad and who knows where I am/ who I am with. I would also like someone around to rally the troops per say if I end up on the wrong side with law enforcement. We are meeting Sunday about what his role would be and my expectations. I am wondering if you all can give me some advice on what I should expect of him.

    My biggest question is:

If something goes wrong, should he first try to intervene himself? Should he immediately notify law enforcement? Should he never notify law enforcement? I personally avoid interacting with LE at all costs in all areas of my life, but I am not sure what is the best tactic here.

I already have researched a number of phone apps that I think would be useful. Life360 and the I'm getting arrested apps for android seem to be my best bet for my own safety and communicating with him.

Is there anything else I should be thinking about?

If you want him to intervene, pay him more than you would for just a driver.

Main question you should be asking though - do you trust his judgment? I don't think there's a clear line about when to intervene and when to notify law enforcement - well, if the client has grabbed you and is driving away with you, definitely call law enforcement. But if he's come at you in the room, him intervening would be far more useful than waiting for law enforcement. Afterwards, your call if you want to press charges. Many other situations where he would need to make the call as to what would be best.

Has he ever worked security before? If not, this may not be the best arrangement since it doesn't sound like you can't even train him, so it'll be like the blind leading the blind. If he has, he'll likely be better equipped to judge when to intervene, how to do it, and help you figure out his role and expectations.
