Some people really love it! I have tried the Bikram classes a handful of times, but I just didn't really like it. It was *too* hot for me, and I grew up in Phoenix, lol! It was also the same exact routine every class I went to for 90 minutes. Both studios I went to also kind of smelled damp and weird, lol. It could have just been the places I went or something, I just personally prefer regular yoga classes. But you'll never know if you don't try! Try taking a class or two and see what you think![]()

I did it for the first time a couple weeks ago. I hated it! I've never sweat so much in my life, which was expected, but it was the dizzy I'm gonna throw up feeling that made me decide it wasn't for me.
Some people really love it though so you should try and see for yourself.
Once.
But it was in a carpeted room?! Like wall to wall carpeted. Like a human sweat... old sponge with horrible stories to tell. Smelled like.... like awful. I brought my own mat thankfully but I also went on a busy Saturday morning, so it was crowded and funky. Also the vent in the room was full of dust and ughhh. The perils of Groupon.
I love the idea of it, my skin glowed for a few days, and I definitely went in very hydrated and wellfed - but the smallish details slowly crept over my ability to meditate lol next time I try it Im going to scope out the place to make sure the place is more hygenic, not do a Groupon impulse buy, and go at a low traffic time. If youre at all sensitive to smells or anything, definitely drop the studio a line and ask about the room it happens in?

gold's gym in my city had a class where she just turned off the air in the room - so not a true hot yoga class but hot enough for me - you did sweat more - i think I would die if I tried the real deal

Hot yoga=hot mess.
It smells. Loads of bacteria. Expensive. Not necessary.

It was warm yoga Nikki lol.
the main yoga studio in my town has mostly hot yoga classes. it does smell, and is pretty intense, but sweating is really good for you and getting rid of toxins and such. i have chronic lyme disease..and my dr. recommended a consistent sauna and exercise regimen since sweating is supposed to flush out your system, and it's like the two combined. I did feel a lot better. And sweating is good for everyone, i'd recommend it.

Wonderful in my opinion, but not for everyone.
Carpet is a rule for proper Bikram yoga. I love that the 90 minute class is the same thing every time. It isn't easy the first few times and you might want to leave the room. Don't!!!!

I LOVE hot yoga! The fact that it's the same every time might be dull for some, but it gives you a sense of your progression once you're further along. You may think to yourself after awhile going, "Oh I remember when I could hardly do this pose when I started and now it's much easier." That kind of thing. Going regularly makes your skin so soft too, in addition to the killer body you get. I noticed I was much more relaxed, had better sleep, got great abs, and was overall much stronger. I'm an avid runner and when I do yoga I have ZERO knee pain, one of the biggest benefits of all. I like to go 3x per week.
Downside: It's expensive and the room smells. You get used to it after a few minutes but it's still funky.
I looooved hot yoga. Found a great monthly rate at a yoga place (unlimited yoga for like $80/month). And the room didn't smell, because the floors were wooden (I bought a yoga mat made specifically for Bikram).
Then again, I'm one of those people who will go to the gym and turn the fans off because I love to feel myself sweat.![]()

LOVE it but the class I take is hot vinyasa nor brikham. THe studio is a hard wood (or laminite) floor and it is very clean and does not smell. They are constantly cleaning and it's a newer studio space. Great workout and I can definitely get into my poses better with all the moist heat. I feel very detoxified after every class.
tried it last week, and it isnt for me. Too hott i had to sit down a cpl times so i didnt pass out. it was 90 minutes long and u couldnt just leave.... I felt like i as stuck lol So not for me

Just curious - why couldnt you leave? - I immediately got the vision of the people in the desert with the religious ritual - lol

They say it breaks up the chi of the class and to just lay on the mat until class is over. My fiancé told me he left once when he started when he didn't know and the teacher really laid into him about it when he went back.
Heat is very relaxing - for which I use the sauna. I like regular yoga which is quite relaxing too. But for sweating my a$$ off I'd rather be alone in a sauna lol
