Default Advice for 18 yr old?

Hi I actually turn 18 in 4 days and I've been pretty set on being dancer for a while now, I live in Seattle and heard its a somewhat tough area to strip in so my question is how can I stay super safe around customers/management/other dancers? because I am getting worried that my age and how young I actually look could influence people to bother me/take advantage.
And I have read the stickies for newbies and on safety but thought someone who's maybe been an 18 yr old dancer or helped one could give me more advice.
Second question and not as important; should I buy a prepaid phone to bring to work with me instead of jus bringing my iPhone? Is this what dancers do so they don't risk getting a nice phone stolen? It seems legit. Thanks for any help it is sooo appreciated

Sorry guess this should be in the newbie section- still figuring the site out

"how can I stay super safe around customers/management/other dancers?"
First of all, Seattle has a high prostitution rate in clubs and managem't likes to look the other way. Don't let anyone coerce you into doing anything uncomfortable. You can always end a dance that's getting unsafe. You can carry pepperspray for walking to the club from your car, but always have a bouncer walk you out! And tip him when he does this - he's protecting you. Don't carry yourself as though you're uneasy or afraid. Don't look distracted. Lock your car as soon as you get in it. Don't engage with anyone in the parking lot/sidewalk. As far as dancers go, just leave them alone. They probably don't want to hang out, and a lot of girls in clubs are generally bad company (sorry). Also, you'll need a license to strip in Seattle.
"I am worried that my age and how young I look could influence people to bother me"
Work the babyface to your advantage. There's a shitload of sicko's out there who love young, young girls. Wear some fucking pigtails and wink and imply that you are VERY young when customers ask how old you are! I get all kinds of older weirdos who love the fact that I'm barely legal. Sick fucks. Just don't give anyone your number/general area of residence/where you go/went to school and you're fine. No one will make fun of you for being young. Some asshole will always try to take advantage of your greenness to the industry. It's up to you to take advantage of him, instead. But do it in the cute, giggling manner of a pubescent young girl.
"Should I buy a prepaid phone for work"
Not necessary. Get a handbag for your money that's big enough to also fit your phone in and carry it with you. Or keep your phone in your locker, if you get one. Everyone I know brings their expensive phones to work.

Thank you for the response and advice I assumed looking young would be mostly an advantage to me as far as customers go. My question in regards to your answer is when would I tip the bouncer (when he walks me to my car??) and do you know if the clubs require you to have the license when you audition? That would be my only set back to stripping at this point as they seem to cost around $200 D:

Yes, you would tip him when he walks you to your car.

I would call and ask the club, sometimes they require it before, sometimes not. Here most of the clubs that require it to audition will at least let you know if you have a good shot at getting hired before dropping $200 on it.

Honestly, I'd tip the bouncers even if they aren't walking you to your car that particular instance. I personally find that it helps to have lots of friends, and I know all the guys are watching my back even when I'm not handing them money, you know? I work in kind of a skeezy club, and I know sometimes staff looks the other way a bit too hard. I had a really bad experience in a VIP with a guy, and afterwards I realized it might've been prevented if someone was checking up on me.

I kick the floor-walker a few bucks every night, and in return, I know he's always on the other side of the curtain.

On a more positive note, sometimes they're friendly with customers, and they'll point guys in your direction!

Also, about your phone! I take my iPhone to work, but I keep it with me. Same thing with my driver's license, debit card, and - lol - my gum. I wouldn't leave anything valuable in the locker room.

Is there any way you could start dancing in Portland instead of Seattle?
Seattle just has such a bad rep as a place to dance... I personally haven't been there so I probably shouldn't judge, but if you can make it to Portland maybe it would be worth the extra effort if the money and environment are both better- especially for someone who's just starting out. That's what I would do if I were in that area.

If you haven't already, check out Club Chat and Industry Insight and read up on Seattle/Portland clubs before you make your decision to start.
