    Default Computer Repair

I need my battery in my macbook replaced soon (it's a newer model so it'd be safer/easier to just have Apple install it).. there are also issues with my trackpad going on. I'm good with internal things and simple hardware repairs, but this is likely due to a faulty battery from what I've read.

However, like most of you I have all kinds of dirty things of myself on this computer. Should I hide my pictures/bookmarks really good, or just say, "aw, screw it, whatever" and leave it as is. What do you guys do to prep your computer before sending it to someone for repairs, or even maybe letting someone else use it? Has a repair person ever remarked on something that was on your computer? I'd ideally like to get a computer for work and a computer for personal. I should also probably transfer a lot of the dirty stuff to a usb or external hard drive.

And okay, wow, as soon as I started typing this post my trackpad magically started working right again. Thank you, camming goddess!

I am paranoid so I would remove everything and put it on an external hard drive or two. I would backup my bookmarks on chrome with my gmail account then remove them completely. I have heard stories of people taking those type of files off. Is it likely? No. But that is what I would do just so I wouldn't be worrying about it. Worth the effort for peace of mind Btw I do the same thing with non-camming personal info. I also use Crashplan to backup... I highly recommend them!

^^Ditto this. I would move everything to an external and/or maybe do a clean install of my OS to make sure I got everything.

Thanks!! So Chrome syncs your bookmarks with your gmail account? I have firefox, but I totally need to look into Chrome instead then.

Alright, I know what a saturday project will be. Get a new external harddrive. Work on cleaning out my computer and tracking down my own dirt… I have pictures scattered everywhere, though my videos are rather organized.

I do regular back ups of my entire file system on a heavy duty external harddrive, but that huge thing runs on firewire and needs it's own power source, so it's really not fun to try to access for one video or picture. I need to get a simple portable USB harddrive for just easy access to camming content… so it's not directly on my computer, but still easily accessible when I need it.

There was an article about a bust of Apple employees removing pictures from products that came in for repair... I'll see if I can find it again to post. I am a paranoid person so it didn't help haha.

I know Chrome does it because that is my main browser but my guess would be Firefox has some kind of plugin to export or save your bookmarks? Hopefully someone who knows can chime in.

Remember you need to use a gmail account for that, though.

Either way, if I were you, I'd back up all of my music, pictures and files into an external drive, and delete that from the Macbook before taking it into service. It still has warranty with Apple, right?
