Default Ways to break a bad mood and get in the zone

What are the ways that you can shake off a bad mood and get into the zone for work? Not just the idea of sticking to a routine, or getting pumped up - but if you are just having a shitty day, and want to re-set your mood BEFORE getting into your pump-up routine? It's often one of the hardest things to shake, and can completely de-rail you. More than that, it can throw off your mojo and send you on a downward spiral, when a bad mood means that the usual routine doesn't work, and then the night is bad...and then the next one because you get freaked out...and then BOOM. No mojo.

Here are some of the things that I have found to work/not work:

    Works:
    - Playing with a pet. There is something totally engaging about playing with a furry friend that completely wipes the bad mood from the mind
    - Workout. Specifically - frantic cardio. Sweat out the anger.
    - Meditation. But only after the worst of the bad mood has been burnt off, otherwise I just find it frustrating.
    - Getting a massage and a nice lunch - only if you have the time and money!
    - Journalling - as long as you end in gratitude.

    Doesn't Work (for me):
    - Having a drink. Just makes it harder to focus on the positive.
    - Trying to power through. Starting my routine when I am in a crappy mood just tends to dilute the power it usually has.
    - Napping - then I wake up groggy, and it gets me annoyed all over again
    - Shopping. Crowds. Nuff said.

    What works/doesn't for you?
    -
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

    Hey ManyRoses,

One of the best ways to get yourself out of a bad state is to focus on your WHY.

Gratitude is great, and music can work wonders.

We actually wrote a whole ebook on this on our site, StripAndGrowRich. It's free.

Just follow the link under my post here and subscribe to our newsletter and it comes automatically to your email address.

It's funny, I smoke on a daily basis but always avoid being high at work! It makes me lazy and overly conscious of the way I look/act. Lol I remember once, a friend and I went out to her car during work for a smoke break and when I got back inside I had to go onstage and started having an anxiety attack onstage! No one could tell 'cause I played it off, but it's taught me never to be high at work.

Xanax, on the other hand, is a different story. I hate to say it but if I'm not in work mode, popping 1mg of xanax really helps me get into it. I don't encourage this, most people react different to xanax than me because I take it normally for anxiety. It doesn't make me all loopy or passing out. It just makes me less anxious and thus more apt to talk to people.

Buying new work clothes and getting my hair done also helps.

^ me too! there's NOOO way i could get high at work, i have panic attacks when im sitting on my couch high nowadays! i really envy the girls who can smoke and then just chill and be in a relaxed mood . but anyways..
    what works for me :
i just think and just go. usually i get up, and then immediately take a shower and head to work. doesn't give me anytime to start dreading it
getting my nails/hair done or getting a new outfit works without fail for me
envisioning the things i want to buy
calling a regular to come in to shower me with compliments and money..seems like on nights where i don't earn anything at first, it stays that way. but on nights when i start with a bang, the money keeps coming.
giving myself a pep talk and listening to loud music on the way there.

what doesn't work is spending time with my pets or my bf/family/kid because then i get so bummed i have to leave and work for the next 10 hours
    alcohol or other "medication"

although im starting to get real bad anxiety before work for some reason. its getting worse, so im thinking of trying the Xanax thing

If you try xanax, BE CAREFUL! I don't know if you've had experience with it before, but since you are prone to anxiety, you will find that it will immediately help your anxiety attack. Literally I've tried many anti-anxiety meds and techniques, and xanax is by far the best short-term solution for anxiety that I've found. But it's addictive and the withdrawal effects are horrible. Like, can kill you horrible. I trust that you'd be able to moderate the amount you use. I make sure I keep my xanax use in moderation and I haven't gotten addicted (and don't plan to!), but for some people it's easy to get hooked. I don't want to sound preachy, I just feel on the fence advocating a drug. It's seriously a miracle drug in terms of helping anxiety, but for some people it can be the devil.

yeah i know what you mean..i've tried lorazapam and it kind of made me fall asleep, i don't know if xanax would do that? i'm on suboxone right now, so i know all about how bad things can get when you become addicted benzo withdrawals have also always scared me. its hell going through opiate withdrawals but you're right, with benzos you can die!

If lorazapam made you fall asleep, there's a good chance xanax (alprazolam) might too... it's probably the strongest of all the benzos. But it also depends on what milligram you take. I know several people who say 1mg of xanax made them pass out. I don't know how this can be possible for them lol because if I take 1mg of xanax I can function normally. But since I am very cautious about not exceeding a moderate amount I've been taking half a mg and even that will end an anxiety attack just minutes after I put it under my tongue.

As a side note, if any of you ladies struggle with "stage fright" symptoms, ask your doc if Propranolol might be a good choice instead of jumping for the harder stuff. Plenty of people DO need drugs like Xanax to calm their anxiety. But if you're less worried about how you feel and more annoyed with how your body reveals how you feel (hands shaking, heart pounding, skin flushing, etc.), then Propranolol may be a better option. The feeling it gives you isn't addictive at ALL. It basically just cuts off your adrenaline response when your body starts to go haywire (whereas addictive drugs like Xanax are more like putting a fuzzy blanket over your anxious feelings).

I know I sound like a pharmaceuticals commercial, but whatevsies.

Looking through stripping-related blogs or watching a few pole dancing videos on YouTube.

A coffee while I do my makeup. Makeup is very ritualistic for me, and I always do mine at home.

Also, blatant self-bribery. I try to picture things I want--extras that are fun, never anything like "yayyy I get to go into work to pay rent!" I try to choose something easy to visualize, like a new lipstick I want or a cute dress.

I'm with simone. If I start to cuddle anyone, there's no way you're getting me out of the house.

Also, maybe you girls thinking about Xanax should consider the time-released variety. There's less potential for abuse/addiction, and you take it right before bed, so if it makes you tired, you'll get the heaviest part of it during sleep.

Meditation with breathing techniques for 30 minutes always calms and clears my mind. If your by the ocean, go to the beach, let the water wash away the impurities. Drinking Kava Kava helps as well. Those of you with anxiety have you tried Kava Kava, its a root that grows in the mountains of Fiji and Hawaii that has been pressed into a powder. You can buy it at your local health food store. Also changing your thought patterns from self absorption to love and gratitude frees space in the mind and makes the shoulders not so heavy.

When I have to go to work, I wake up and jump in the shower and go to work. ON my way to work I write down what I made the night before and I figure out what I want to make tonight. I text my regulars and I literally can't wait to get a salad before work that's basically how I go. No sitting at home waiting to leave, watching tv, or hanging out with my bf. If I do any of those, i'll take longer to go and i won't want to.

Sometimes an unplanned day off is just the thing to get me back to new. I'm lucky that my club doesn't require us to make a schedule, so I can go in or stay home as I please.

*I like to read erotica or very racy romance to get into the right frame of mind for stripping.
*I second the exercise suggestion. Twenty minutes of high intensity interval training will banish a bad mood.
    *Listen to fun music.
    *Play tug-of-war with my dog.
*Have sex; either alone or with a friend.
*Watch pole dancing videos on YouTube. The good ones inspire me to want to dance.

    What doesn't work:
*Focusing on my financial situation. I usually just feel worse if I tell myself I *have to* go to work to afford [xyz].
    *Surfing Facebook.
    *Getting stoned.

When I'm already at work and I'm stressed, I do stretching for splits or paint my nails. The concentration puts me in another world.

I'm never in a particularly bad mood before work, I actually look forward to it. But I get anxious and stressed and I like my routine

    Stretching
Cleaning - my room has to be spotless before I even start getting ready. Freshly made bed, vacuumed, etc. nothing stresses me more than a mess.
Lighting a candle while I clean

I'm not big on hot coffee but I'll drink it and just making it is like aromatherapy for me. Although I hate like, coffee scented candles.
Watching funny youtube videos on my phone while I do my makeup

NOT getting on Facebook/twitter and not texting unless its a regular. There's just something about that that brings me back down and not in stripper world anymore.
    Thinking about a boob job
The drive there always relaxes me to an extent
Good music on the way there

If it's a bad mood that continues for days it's time for me to take some time off. Go out on a date, go out with my girlfriends, see a movie, go to a party, vacation... or just force myself to wake up early and have a real day, not three/four hours of TV watching before work. Sometimes it's because I've been at the club too long and I'm totally exhausted and it's starting to feel like it's the whole world and there's nothing else. Sometimes it's physical/mental exhaustion. When guys come in and joke about how great my job must be, I just want to laugh. Stripping is the hardest thing I've ever done, job wise.

If it's a bad mood at work... still working on it. Smoke a cigarette, change my hair or my outfit (I find that helps a lot, even if it just throws the guys in the room off and gets rid of the "that's the girl that no one is dancing with" reputation I've gotten ahold of. Talk to somebody. Stop comparing myself to the other girls. Walk to the gas station just to get out of the club. Call someone to get my head out of the club.

What doesn't work... powering through when a bad mood is lasting days. I just keep doing badly at work and it's a fucking cycle. Drinking at work when I'm doing bad. I just get even more tired and sad and emotional and customers can tell I'm fucked up and steer away.

My biggest trick was just to tell myself "I'll make more money if I go in than if I stay at home." I completely took off all of the pressure of 'having' to make money that night, and would just go in with a bad mood. Usually by the time I'd done my hair/makeup and was in the club, I'd get into the groove. There are rare nights when you go in, hit the floor, and are still like "nope!" - then you can go home knowing you at least made an effort and can take the night off with a clean conscience.

Sometimes you can even make the bad mood work for you and use a bitch hustle that makes you more money than you normally would (best used in larger clubs with higher customer turnover).

What never worked for me was trying to trick myself into not having a bad mood. If I had a work-related bad mood, no upbeat song or fun meal could make me feel better. My best bet was to just go with the mood and try to make it work in my favor.
