What are the ways that you can shake off a bad mood and get into the zone for work? Not just the idea of sticking to a routine, or getting pumped up - but if you are just having a shitty day, and want to re-set your mood BEFORE getting into your pump-up routine? It's often one of the hardest things to shake, and can completely de-rail you. More than that, it can throw off your mojo and send you on a downward spiral, when a bad mood means that the usual routine doesn't work, and then the night is bad...and then the next one because you get freaked out...and then BOOM. No mojo.
Here are some of the things that I have found to work/not work:
Works:
- Playing with a pet. There is something totally engaging about playing with a furry friend that completely wipes the bad mood from the mind
- Workout. Specifically - frantic cardio. Sweat out the anger.
- Meditation. But only after the worst of the bad mood has been burnt off, otherwise I just find it frustrating.
- Getting a massage and a nice lunch - only if you have the time and money!
- Journalling - as long as you end in gratitude.
Doesn't Work (for me):
- Having a drink. Just makes it harder to focus on the positive.
- Trying to power through. Starting my routine when I am in a crappy mood just tends to dilute the power it usually has.
- Napping - then I wake up groggy, and it gets me annoyed all over again
- Shopping. Crowds. Nuff said.
What works/doesn't for you?
