Question Anti Age Hair Product / Thin hair

So my hair feels like it's thinning, I lose a lot, + damage from highlights (been 6 mo. since last time, currently growing out). Been using Garnier 'Fall Fight" leave in spray, shampoo & conditioner (samples of, except for the leave in, it's eh not sure ) I am looking at the new Nexxus serum anti age product..I like/used Nexxus before, this's new, it's in a violet color bottle, they also have shampoo/conditioner..
I see Bumble & Bumble has something new as well, it contains a sea product, which previously I've used in another brand can't think of the name but you can only buy it at salons
Though of the new Kerastace anti age serum as well, it doesn't seem to have super great reviews..anyone into this stuff?

Have you tried using coconut oil? My hair is thin too and overworked/coloured-it definitely helps repair damaged hair, so it might prevent more breakage (leave it in either a while before you wash it or over night ). I haven't used the Kerastace anti age serum, but a lot of their products are good, so it would be worth a try.

Yeah, thanks so much ladies! I keep forgetting about coco oil, gotta try..I also been using L'oreal spray oil, it's a new one, it's gold colored for damaged hair. I like it you can use it wet/dry.
I really should have trimmed my hair also, (I do myself w/pro scissors). I'll just wait til next month

Biotin is a great supplement for hair growth and it is inexpensive - I have been having the same issue - it sucks - mine is mostly in the bang area and then just over all my hair is not as thick - thank god I had a ton of it to start with

    I second coconut oil. My hair was abysmal after years and years of extensions and dye and now, it's still fine but it's a lot healthier due to ;
Coconut oil as a treatment and conditioner (so leave in overnight when you can, leave on for 15 minutes after washing then shampoo out)
Not shampooing very often-generally, I just use water.
Paul Mitchell shampoo/conditioner worked great for me-can you get that where you are?I used the SuperStrength range.
Take some vitamins especially for hair repair-mine are a UK brand but if you cant get hold of any where you are I'd suggest using some made for pregnant women. Sounds mad but I was recommended that by a beauty therapist and it worked for me at the time!
Eat well-almonds and spinach did good for my hair!
Good luck-I've always had fine hair and got extensions to counteract that, but long term it made it worse!Lol xx

Green writing white bottle Sally's line for volume. And coconut oil overnight. Clip in extensions. Little processing.

If your hair is thinning coconut oil isn't going to do a thing. Get some nioxin products they're made specifically for this. Also bosley makes products now for this too. They are expensive so maybe just start with the scalp booster? I believe both make this, you massage into scalp daily. Also get some good hair vitamins I use futurebiotics every six months or so.

^ Not necessarily, it depends on the reason behind the thinning. If your hair is thinning due to breakage from being over processed, coconut oil can help. Not only does it provide lubrication for the hair, but unlike some other oils, coconut oil actually penetrates the cuticle and cortex of the hair. It is most effective when used as a prewash, and is especially helpful in preventing the loss of proteins in the hair and damage caused by friction. Part of the cuticle cell (the endocuticle) absorbs water, while another (the exocuticle) does not. The repeated swelling and contraction is enough to damage the cuticle on it's own, but water retention also results in the lifting and bending of the surface cuticle, which leaves the hair vulnerable to breakage and loss of protein from combing (or any friction or pressure, really, even that cause by other hair). Coconut oil protects against this damage by keeping water from penetrating the cuticle cell, and is also absorbed by hair which further prevents swelling and the chipping away of cuticle cells and protein loss. Coconut oil benefits hair damaged by chemical processing and UV exposure, as well as undamaged hair.

Also, you can massage it into your scalp which helps increase blood flow and encourages hair growth, although this isn't specific to coconut oil, scalp massages in general do this.

Having said that, I've personally never seen a study where coconut oil was compared to other hair products, only other oils. So I'm not sure how it stacks up against the Nioxin, but for those dealing with damaged hair and hair breakage Coconut oil is an effective and cost-efficient treatment option.

If your hair loss is due to another cause, such as poor diet (I have this problem a lot), then obviously the coconut oil isn't going to do shit.

ETA: You can also try Rogaine (Minoxidil). My Mom uses this, and says it works for her. Only the 2% is approved for use by women, but you can still use the 5%, there's just a higher chance for side effects (such as extra facial hair growth). Proceed with caution, though, as one of the side effects of Minoxidil is actually HAIR LOSS. Go figure.

Thanks sierra! I think it's mostly damage/breakage issues..I don't think it's thinning @ the scalp. Just a lot of fallout.. I have been under a ton of stress this past year, had a stroke too. Today I used regular nexxus therappe moisture shampoo, & humuctress conditioner. That other nexxus product is like 17.00..I looked at Minoxil & another similar product @ Walgreens way too high, (although there was a third product that looked interesting somewhat cheaper) & I"m kinda scared of the stuff, plus I don't think I need it, but thanks so much!

^ I've used dozens of products. Pretty much every high end product out there since I have severe breakage from over processed hair and loss of hair due to fusion extensions and can tell you coconut oil did nothing for me. Everyone responds to things differently and it did nothing to help my hair....

Right, I get it..I know for me the 'home treatments' are so difficult to wash out of my hair.

I think you will be happy with the biotin - consult your local compounding pharmacy - we also use it on our horses with bad or poor quality feet - or an injury to speed up growth - you can actually measure the difference in the rate of growth and the quality

^ Any conditioner you leave in for 14 hours and wash out your hair is going to be soft and silky. The point is what does it do in the long run to help with damage? Other than growing out completely all you csan really do it coat the shaft to help with damage.

^ they say any other conditioner should only be left in for 30 min, after that nothing more can be absorbed. coconut oil is just all natural, and is also on a very small list of things that will actually penetrate the hair shaft and keep water from getting in and expanding it like sierra said. it also smells awesome! but i hear its only for very coarse, frizzy, or damaged hair otherwise it can weight hair down or make it even greasier. so it depends on your hair type as well. and its super cheap!! i don't know, my hair feels great though, without any of the sulfates or silicone they put in hair stuff

It's a bit pricey, but you can look into the Invati system by Aveda. Also, Aveda is all plant and flower based. The shampoo exfoliates the scalp so new hair can grow in better, the conditioner thickens the hair you already have to help prevent breakage, and the scalp revitalizer helps stimulate the scalp for new hair growth. I haven't tried it yet, but as soon as I save up some extra money I'm going to buy the set, but the picture of the results is pretty cool!

Oooh, thanks, yes I've been so wanting to try this! I think they had a free sampling program (you didn't have to buy anything either) I love Aveda, when I do get my hair done, it's at an Aveda salon
