    Default Stinky shoe solution!!

i just want to let everyone know i've tried something that works!!

my shoes always smell HORRIBLE and i get so self conscious that guys can smell them. within a week or two brand new shoes are stinky with seemingly no cure.

    i've tried:
    • using a toothbrush and scrubbing them with dish detergent (as found on sw)
    • doing the same with laundry soap
    • soaking them in vinegar
    • soaking them in hydrogen peroxide
    • sprinkling them with baking soda after each shift

NONE OF THESE THINGS WORKED TO COMPLETELY GET THE STINK OUT. and when i used them again, by the end of hte night they were just as bad :/

I figured I was doomed. I just have feet that sweat when i'm hot.

Btw, none of my nromal every day shoes smell.

    LOW AND BEHOLD!!

    DRYER SHEETS.

as a last alternative tonight i put a dryer sheet in each shoe. (a pair of heels i haven't tried any of the aforementioned methods on and that were particularly stinky). i figured, why not, i got this box of 40 sheets for 99 cents.

two hours later, they are STINK FREE.

tomorrow will be the true test when i wear them at work all night and see if they get their stank back. but so far, so good. i'm leaving them in until my shift tomorrow.

if nothing else, at least i found something easy, simple, and cheap to deodorize them in between shifts without completely soaking them in either vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or detergent then having to leave them to dry for a couple days.

    i'm pretty satisfied.

i know this is a long post and i'm overly excited but i have been stressfully dealing with this for two years and i'm so happy i found a solution that is simple, fast, quick, easy, and not messy, even if its only temporary, and i hope to help someone else who is also struggling with this!!

Dryer sheets also work to get cologne or cigarette smoke out of hair. They are just little white sheets of awesome!

    Whoa.

Thank you so much for starting this thread.

I have had this exact same problem and I tried different ways to keep them from stinking and nothing worked. I have a couple of heels that I just don't wear anymore because they smell so bad.

    I must try this!

also, what i'm going to start doing is buying the thin cloth inserts for my shoes... ones that are flexible/floppy and not structured and NOT plastic or rubber... cloth ones.. you can buy them at family dollar for $1 a pair.

i'm going to put those in my shoes when they are NEW then when they get really stinky just remove the cloth insert and put a fresh one in.

that way my sweat and nastiness absorbs in to the insert, not my shoe, and the shoe itself will last and be fresher longer...

aaaah this is honestly so exciting for me because i HATE how bad my shoes stink!! literally like a men's locker room... i always wonder if the guys can smell it.

picture of the inserts i got from family dollar. they even include a sticky backing so that they stay secure on the shoe.

**EDIT** i actually think i got these from dollar tree, not family dollar. but you know what i mean. :-P
