Question Forgot to sanitize sea sponge

I have googled everything seeing what to do...

I started my period...and i have never used a sea sponge...well i totally forgot to sanitize it in vinegar and water....but i however did rinse it in hot water. Noooow I am totally paranoid about having sand up my cooter or some weird particle.
Has anyone else done this? I soaked my cooter in warm vinegar bath water, just in case, lol.
I took the sea sponge out after like 5 or 10 minutes after i realized that I totally forgot to sanitize it. and i soaked it in vinegar and warm water, now its hanging to dry. Am I being paranoid?

I don't think I sanitized mine hardcore before I tried them. Just rinsed them like you did. I didn't even realize it, I was excited to try them haha.
    Think you'll be fine.

Default Maybe im paranoid about sea sponges

anyways, okay i slept with a sea sponge in...and in the morning i tried to get it out, but it was waaaaay up there
so i like moved my fingers around in a circle and i felt it...so kinda dug at it...and finally got it down a lil bit.
then i took my index finger and thumb...and kinda pinched at it to get it more...and i swear to god...
omfg..i heard and felt a rip...SO NOW IM HELLA PARANOID that i do have sea sponge floating around inside of meh.
I called my doctor and planned parenthood...and they said that i need an exam to make sure that i dont have anything "up" there
of course they want like 200 bucks at the doctor and planned parenthood cant get me in until monday..for an emergency visit.
i am sure it cant get in my cervix, but who knows. ..i dont. lol
but they said i could get an infection...which makes me wonder if i should squirt water up there to wash anything out?
    anyone have this happen?
and im super sorry if all i talk about is sea sponges lately...:p

I have never sanitized them and I am ok. I do not reuse them. I throw them away when they are full...like a tampon.

Oh my god Ginger you're adorable. You're going to be FINE, I promise. You gotta be careful when you pull them out but I'm sure you're fine. Squirt some water up there and you'll be FINE, haha. You won't get an infection. :p I've got one in right now and I promise you the world isn't ending. Make sure you're sanitizing it at least once a day with some tea tree oil or hydrogen peroxide, or both. lol

Sex workers will have a better idea about sea sponges than OBGYNs. XD And sometimes the sponge will be really far back. You just have to pull it out slower 'cause its saturated and weak.

It should also work its way out naturally. Try using your muscles throughout the day to push it out. Just relax! As long as it's not a huge chunk that's blocking your entire vagina, it should gradually come out on its own. Especially since you're on your period!

^Honey, nothing is going up your cervix. The vagina is self-cleaning, remember: it pushes everything from the inside to the outside. You're on your period, lady! It will come out. Just push your muscles - especially if/when you have to go #2. The cervix isn't trying to pull things upwards - quite the opposite!

Since we are on the topic, can anyone tell me if it is unwise to use sea sponges if you have an IUD? I actually don't get much of a period anymore but some spotting and would like to use them but wasn't sure if it could get caught?

^Nope, you'll be fine. The lines from the IUD should be cut pretty short anyway, but even if they aren't, nothing will happen. Just be gentle, and if anything hurts, stop! (of course)

Default All About Sea Sponges and Use For Menstruation

So, you've decided to become an adult worker! You've been working for weeks, making that money, working your pussy off. The next morning you wake up, you've got cramps, your irritable, you're bleeding all over the damn place. "How the fuck am I going to work?!" To StripperWeb you go! You frantically post a thread asking how you're going to work on your period. Girls respond, referencing everything from not working, to soft cups, to cutting off a tampon string. And then there are the Sea Sponges. There are a lot of interest in these little things, so let's get down to business. I know SO many girls that have been looking for all of the answers regarding these sponges, and here they are!

    What are sea sponges?

Sea sponges are a natural, organic way to collect your menses. They are harvested from the ocean by a company who harvests them strictly for use during menstruation. I don't recommend purchasing them anywhere else, because you don't know if they were harvested from pollution free waters. Most people that use them are environment-savvy people that don't want to hurt the environment with pads or tampons, but for adult workers, they allow us to still make our bills while dealing with a period. The link for purchasing these sponges is down below.

Here are my sponges. I purchased a three-pack and then a pack of mediums. I NEVER use the large one. Ever. Just purchase mediums and smalls. The one in the middle is soaked already and has been used every month since purchased, and the large one has never been used.

    How do they work?

Sea sponges arrive very hard and stiff. To soften them, simply run underwater, squish them a few times, and then just pop them up in there, pushing it as far back as possible. The sponge sits directly beneath your cervix, collecting menses as a tampon would. Sea sponges, however, can hold more than a tampon, and you can even wear them overnight without the risk of TSS. I still recommend wearing a panty liner, however. If your sponge is too far forward because of a low cervix (which you might have if you're 5'1) then sneezing may accidentally cause some leaking if you've had it in for too long...

    They Squish

    How do I clean them?

Sea sponges are not for the weak hearted. You better be comfortable with your own vagina and blood if you plan to use them. If you are working with a sea sponge in on your heaviest day, I recommend removing a medium sponge after about two hours. Simply reach in, wrap your finger around it, pull it out, and run it underwater, squishing it to remove everything. Then just pop it back up in there! You may find that if you've been penetrating yourself, that the sponge will be really far back. Don't panic! Simply bear down as if you are going #2, use a finger to gently reach for a piece of it, and very carefully begin tugging. Sea sponges can be delicate if they are very saturated, so try to not force it out too quickly. Once you've pulled it so far, you can wrap a finger around, and tug it out from behind.

Here is how I clean my sponges.
    Cleaning Supplies

What if I'm done using it altogether?

You will find that after a few uses, your sea sponge resembles a dish sponge that has been used for like four months. It may be stained brown and red and may still have some cervical mucous on it. Gross, right? Don't throw it away! Simply take a small bowl, add some warm water and hydrogen peroxide, and pop the sponge in there. Not only will the sponge come completely stain-free, but it will also dissolve any bodily fluids still in the sponge. Once the sponge has sufficiently soaked and come clean, simply squeeze it out, rinse with clean water, and lay it out to COMPLETELY dry. Do not put a wet sponge in a bag, it will mildew! Also, if you're worried about super cleanliness, I recommend buying some Tea Tree Oil. I ordered the one from Jade and Pearl when I first bought my sponges back in August of 2012 and I still have 3/4 of a bottle left. Sometimes I use it to soak my sponge between uses. A sponge with a little bit of tea tree oil in it will remove harmful bacteria from your pussy. Some even use it for bacteria-related infections because its a natural antiseptic! I clean my sponges with TTO after soaking them in the peroxide water, then store them away.

    Tea Tree Oil

How I personally use Sea Sponges

I know exactly when my period is coming every month, so a day before I'm due, I will take my medium sponge and start soaking it in a bowl of water with a few drops of tea tree oil. You can put the sponge in before you actually start bleeding, unlike tampons. Inserting a dry tampon with no reason can put you at risk for TSS. I don't like to work the first day on my period because I can't put up with guys, so I'm skipping to Day 2. Before working, I will take a shower, removing my sponge, rinsing it out, and putting it in my TTO solution. I also like to douche so that any excess menses are removed and I can work with my sponge in longer. Now, before I insert my sponge, I like to get myself wet inside someway, either with a little bit of lube, or a pre-work orgasm. This makes my cervix sit back further and gives me some lube to work with. I have a really low cervix, so if I don't do this, my sponge is too far forward to work adequately. After my sponge is rinsed and inserted, I like to take a dildo or vibrator to push it back further. Some days I still won't use toys, only fingers, but this is what works for me. For strippers, you don't really need to worry about that. :p

After I've been working for about 2-3 hours (sometimes less depending on flow) I will take a break to go and rinse my sponge out in the sink, and push it back again with a toy. It sounds difficult, but it's really not. Also, when working with a toy, your sponge may be really far back. Again, don't worry. This is completely normal. Follow previous directions on how to remove it.

    How I Store Them

My sponge doesn't seem to be holding as much anymore...

I'm having this problem this month. I have had my sponges since August, and I'm starting to bleed through my mediums after about 3 hours. I can tell by their density that it's about time to replace them. Jade and Pearl recommends replacing them every 5 months or so anyway, so mine are past their time. To order sea sponges and read more about them, visit:

Here, you will find more information about these delightful things that allow you to still pay your bills while bleeding.

    FAQs

    1. Help, I think a piece of my sea sponge came off inside of me!
Relax. The vagina is self-cleaning, especially during your period. If you are afraid that a piece came off inside of you (examine your sponges closely) then simply douche it out, or let your vagina remove it on its own. You will not get an infection, because it will come out before that point.

    2. I can't reach my sponge!
I covered this previously, but to review: When I couldn't reach mine at all, I got into a squatting position in my bath tub, and pushed down. It allowed me to reach a portion of it, in order to pull it down some, so that I could wrap my finger around it. You will get your hands dirty. It's all part of the job, right?

    3. Can I use just one sponge throughout my whole period?
You can, but I recommend rotating them out. I use one for the first few days, and then do my peroxide soak, TTO soak, and then dry it out to be stored away.

    4. Will I push my sponge out while going #2?
You are bearing down, so you may push your sponge forward, but it will not just pop out on its own. I like to take this opportunity to rinse my sponge out anyway.

    5. Can I completely replace tampons with these?
Yes! It's a little annoying to deal with it in public, but you CAN do it. Simply take a pre-soaked sponge in a plastic baggie, and swap your dirty sponge with your clean one, rinsing it out when you get home. Handicap stalls are great for this because they come equipped with a sink. But on my long jaunts out, I just like to use a tampon.

    6. Should I feel any discomfort while wearing my sea sponge?
If you experience discomfort, your sponge may be too big for you. The great news is that they can be trimmed! Instructions on how to trim it properly is on the Jade and Pearl website.

    7. Can I use sea sponges with an IUD?
Yes! I've known multiple girls who use an IUD that use sea sponges. The sponge is large enough, and the string small enough, that you do not have to risk pulling out your IUD when removing a sponge. As always, listen to your body, and don't proceed if its painful! Listen to your body, and don't be afraid to consult a OB doctor if you're concerned about your IUD. They may not condone the sponges because they aren't mainstream enough.

I'll include this in the thread I just made for sea sponges. So many questions were being asked in the chat, so it was requested. You can combine the threads for ease of access.

I love sea sponges! I find them more comfortable than tampons and personally love how much less waste they contribute to the environment. So far I've only used Jade and Pearl and would recommend them. I bought the large premium sponges and had to trim them down a little.

One thing that freaked me out and that I saw mentioned once was cleaning cervical mucus off the sponge. I wondered what the hell was wrong with me until I found a long, very thorough review that mentioned it. It's apparently pretty common and may require a little more than soaking and rinsing to get it off the sponge.

I've also read that they don't cause any dryness that tampons can cause and when I switched to mainly switching sponges my 'gina really did feel better. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but my periods are pretty long and heavy so using tampons for that long felt unpleasant at the end of my cycles.

Ive found that if i pee while wearing a sponge the weight of the urine causes the sponge to drop down low enough to reach.
