    Default Dental insurance recommendations

Anyone have any great dental insurance plan recommendations for individuals? I have health insurance under my mother's plan with Aetna, but they won't let me add my own dental, and I think that it might be worth it considering I need some work done.

I can totally understand why people marry for benefits at this point. Individual plans are such a headache.

Okay, I'm going to respond to my own question after a very frustrating day in case any of you are interested. Dental insurance for an individual (what we have to buy since we don't get benefits through work, unless you have them through a spouse or another job) is pretty expensive. My mother looked into how much it would be for her to add a plan and put me on it, and for three people, it would've been about $300/month, and most procedures were only covered at about 50%. No thanks.

Instead, I think I'm going to do a dental savings program. If you go to dentalplans.com, you can compare a number of options based on your top concerns. There is an annual fee with all of the ones I looked at (most under $150 plus a one-time $15 enrollment fee), and most procedures are reduced at participating dental offices by 20-75%. A few have a lot of "no cost" procedures, but they do not have many participating dentists. Some of the major ones like Cigna have almost 1000 participating dental offices in the US.

Seems worth it if you want to clean your teeth more than once a year, get x-rays, have work done, etc.

I had a plan awhile back, it covered dental & medical, they charged a monthly fee around 70 a month..they just gave you a discount basically so not that great..
What I am going to do, just for a checkup, I got a card in the mail, you pay a low fee for first time new customers only.
But yeah, I am definitely interested in dental.

hey i was in your situation. i went to the dentist, they said i needed 6500 worth of work...
one of the girls here told me about careington.com
i paid 96 dollars for the whole year to be covered. 6 dollars a month if you do it monthly
I have everything 20-50 percent off.
I went to a decent who takes careington...and it turned out i didnt need the 6500 dollars worth of crap.
I just need a root canal...im paying 1500 instead of over 2500 for a root canal and crown. this included the exam and xrays as well

I actually was leaning towards Careington when I concluded my search earlier, but the one that I saw was $139.95/year. Did you do the 500 series or another one?
