    Default Sore Thigh Muscles..how do girls work several days in a row?!

    I"ve noticed that I simply cannot work more than 3-4 days in a row before taking a break day, even if I want to keep working more days in a row due to thigh soreness. On the 3rd or 4th straight day of dancing my thighs feel like jelly like they will give out during a dance! I work in a club that doesn't allow touching or to be in one position for more than 5 seconds so the girls end up moving around a lot during a dance, which kills the thighs. Also, it is a floor dance club only, no vip rooms, no champagne rooms, and no much stage tipping. The dance couches are also REALLY high off the ground, so that kills my thighs even more! Besides getting higher platforms shoes, and massages is there anything I can really do? I've been dancing for years now on and off and for a few months straight, and my body cannot tolerate more shifts...Ack! THe interesting thing is my feet don't hurt like most girls, only my thighs and lower legs. thanks!

    I'm not convinced higher platforms will make you less sore... I always take my shoes off for lap dances and I find it makes a world of difference in how sore my thighs get.

    Yeah I've seen a lot of girls do this, I've done it myself, and it does help. Otherwise the only thing that helped me with soreness was getting used to all the work.

    Stretch before and after.

    Switch up moves and use ones that work your thighs less.

    Eventually your muscles will get used to it.

    Totally forgot about stretching. I actually do stretch before work and it has definitely helped with soreness.

    Stretch before and after work. Also, as someone else mentioned, work out your leg muscles. I know it's a workout already just doing that, but doing strength training at home will improve your stamina at work.

    Also, depending on where you're traveling, most places probably won't be like your club and you'll get more of a break on the no touching/moving around all the time thing, so you can sit/straddle/whathaveyou and rest your thighs more often.

    Like others have mentioned, workout your thigh muscles so they can be stronger and less delicate. Stretching before work is also extremely important! I took almost a month off recently, and returned to work and did not stretch at all. After two days of work, my thighs were so sore! It literally hurt to sit on the toilet because my hamstrings were so sore, lol. Investing in a heating pad will work wonders - whenever my body is sore, a few hours with the heating pad makes a significant difference!

    I work 6 nights a week and have for most of the 3 years I've danced if I take a vacation I get that sore feeling but I just use arnica gel over night it helps a bit but you just gotta get used to it.

    I agree w/ all of the suggestions above, esp abt stretching & strength training. Would it be possible to use a chair during your dances? When I do table dances I'll pull up a chair from another table if I have to & essentially incorporate it into my dance as a prop, esp when my knees are painful.

    I would look at your diet before I'd recommend working out. Technically dancing is exercising, and since you're doing so much of that, you should be building up enough muscle to handle whatever you're throwing at yourself shift-wise (within reason).

    Do you eat during your shifts to replenish your electrolytes? Do you eat bananas (potassium)? Do you take a multivitamin? Are you eating at least 3 complete meals a day on top of smaller, healthy snacks in between? Do you drink alcohol at work? How do you stay hydrated at work? Are you getting enough protein - either through vegetable or animal sources?

    thanks for all the suggestions. I am short and with heels on i'm 5'7. At my new club (maximum thigh soreness)Since the couches are so high, I end up with my knees at 130 degrees. At my old club (minimal thigh soreness) the couches were low and with my being short my knees were at 90 while i'm sitting on the guy back facing his face. I was thinking 8 inch platform shoes would lower rise my feet up and decrease my knee angle, putting less pressure on my thighs. I rarely eat bananas and sometimes get a tingling, restless leg feeling in my legs and thighs but only after dancing. sometimes my muscles also twitch randomly. I don't eat sweets and mostly eat lean protein, seafood, noodles, green leafy veggies.

    ^Make sure you're getting carbohydrates somehow. You should be eating fruits - bananas are pretty much ideal for what you lose during exercise. Even sports drinks are better than nothing...carbs are fuel for your body! Your body needs fats, proteins, and carbohydrates to work properly.

    Stretching!!!! It works wonders for me when I am working days in a row...stretching after work (when I get home, usually - I walk home and then do some stretches), and if I have really been working, I'll take a hot bath as well.

    I also second the slow dancing - I like to think "slower than molasses dripping" - not only does it save on the thighs - it also means that you are going to sweat less, save your makeup, save your hair...generally hypnotize them as well!

    Yes yes! I eat very poorly, my diet mainly consists of Subway, pasta & the occasional Ihop during the work wk. I drink a ton of water at work tho, sm times 3-4 litres in a shift, & also orange juice for the potassium & a minor sugar boost that won't result in a crash. Apart from being clumsy as hell on my own, I nvr drink alcohol at work as it dehydrates.

    Also, on the subj of stretching, I try to incorporate stretches into my stage shows. I can't do full splits anymore b/c of a groin injury, so I'll do smtg that looks like a centre split but one leg is tucked back under me instead of extended to the side. I do this where other girls might do normal splits or spread eagle type moves, & it gets the thighs nicely stretched. You can stretch at the pole, w/ your back to the audience, leaning on the pole lean forward w/ legs apart & peek out between them.

    I have to second Charlie61 on the potassium for this, twitching muscles tells me that you're dehydrated and have fucked electrolytes. If you don't like bananas (or are watching your weight like me) tomatoes are higher in potassium than bananas per calorie. And make sure you're getting enough sodium if you're prone to sweating. V8 is great for both of these things!

    This is more for your joints than your muscles, but I'd recommend glucosamine to every dancer out there ever. I only danced for 3 years and my knees are completely fucked because I didn't take care of my joints, even had to go to PT. And if your thighs are screaming at you, I assume your knees aren't far behind.

    hmm..well i don't work more than 3 days in a row, because i KNOW my body can't take it..im a very energetic dancer, i put my full energy into every LD and stage set so no way could i work that many days! your body WILL toughen up though! in the meantime, take it easy, don't work so much that your body gives out because what will that accomplish? itll only set you bad or cause injury and physical burn out. slow and steady wins the race. that's my advice for all its worth lol

    This is how I was when I first started. Its just thats your body has to get used to the fact that you are using more muscles than you are used to. Over time your body will get used to it.

    When I work I wear 7 to 7 1/2" heels (bigger platforms are a life saver). When I get home from work many times I also rub icy/hot, bengay or tiger balm (whatever suits you) on the sore or tediously worked area of my body. Also, during the day if I'm not busy w/ other work or errands I relax as much as possible & try to take a hot bath w/ loads of episom salt & the jets on before I go to work & take nap after.
