    Default Birthmarks/Mole Removal?

I tried to do a search but couldn't come up with anything. Have any of you ladies had a mole removed? I have a dark birthmark the size of a nickel I want to get rid of, just interested in hearing any of your experiences with this? I have a consultation coming up in 2 weeks hopefully they will be able to do something for me because it is in a visible area. Kids always teased me about it when I was younger and even some adults still ask me about it to this day if I don't make the effort to cover it up it's so embarrassing I just want it gone!

I have had 3 moles removed. They left scars, but they have faded over time and don't bother me at all. I am very fair skinned, and got the moles removed as a precaution in case they became cancerous. I was told that because of this they have to make sure to remove the whole thing, not just the top, and that this leaves a bigger scar. I was very young when I had this done though so I don't really know how true that is.

I've had a couple removed too (and plan to get rid of more) and indeed it leaves scars, but they fade. I'd just suggest that you go with someone who's skilled at doing stitches so you're left with a clean, straight scar. I have a scar on my leg (not from getting a mole removed) that's very messy looking because the surgeon wasn't exactly careful with my stitches, they were all over the place :/ The doctor who took them out even commented on how much they sucked... You'd think that every doctor/surgeon would be skilled at something so simple, but no...

Once a surgeon removed a mole by cauterising, promising me that it would leave no scar. YEAH RIGHT. There's just an ugly, uneven scar that's the exact same size of the mole...

Also, your aftercare is very important. That scar on my leg was an unsightly purple/blue/green colour at first, but I applied Nivea cream (the regular stuff in the dark blue tin) on it daily for months and it took all of the colour out. La Roche-Posay's Cicaplast is often recommended by dermatologists, but I found it to be quite light, whereas the Nivea is a very thick, heavy cream. It seemed to do the trick way better (plus it's much cheaper).

And obviously, no sun exposure, it might turn red. I apply SPF 50 sunscreen religiously anyway (tattoos and prefer to be pale) so that wasn't much of an issue for me.

I had one removed on my face. I opted to go to my plastic surgeon since it was in an obvious place. I barely have a scar - no one sees it unless I point it out to them.

edited - I had mixed emotions from friends and clients about removing it - some thought it was sexy and I should keep it ( re ..cindy crawford ) - others said good riddance it's gross - lol

I need to go get mine checked out. I have a bunch of freckles all over my face/body, and more keep appearing by the day. The spotted freckles, not the flat redhead freckles, but I do have some of those too. I know they'll end up removing some of them because of the shape/color, I'll let you know how they remove them.

I had a large birthmark, also near the size of a nickel, right above my... erm, lips. It had always been there and over time it got bigger, even somewhat raised. It was a pain to shave around and I always felt self-conscious about it with new partners. I eventually went to the dermatologist and was able to get it removed and paid for under the guise that it might be cancerous. They gave me about 5 shots around the damn thing, which hurt like a mother fucker. I kept apologizing in between shouting obscenities. The actual cut happened so quickly, that I didn't even realize she had removed it. I was like "can we get this over with please??" and they had the fucker in a bottle already. It was "shaved" off with a small knife. I was warned that because it had been there since birth, the roots may be very deep and that it could return and possibly look worse than before. I was willing to take my chances! Well... it's been over a year and I don't see any sign of regrowth at all. There's slight discoloration/a scar on my skin where it was, but it looks 100 times better than a big nasty birthmark.

I've removed some with facial acid, but I need to reapply. Depending on where it is, and what your comfort level is with doing it yourself, there's several ways for it to "fall off" without having to do something ridiculous like take a knife to yourself. (I'm not saying having a plastic surgeon doing it is ridiculous. I'm saying that I'm not advocating cutting something off yourself. Only applying something that eats the mole away so long as you read up a lot and are very careful.)

it stings. you have to be careful to just put it on the mole and not the surrounding skin. And you have to reapply. You need to do it a few times for it to be gone. I did it over a year ago and mine is kind of half gone, lol. I just have been too lazy to reapply and be consistent.
