Default 10 Reasons to Kill Your Microwave

Microwaved water vs non-microwaved water: That link is really interesting.

10 Reasons to Kill Your Microwave:

    1. Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term or permanent brain damage by “shorting out” electrical impulses in the brain (de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue)
    2. The human body cannot metabolize (break down) the unknown by-products created in microwaved food
    3. Male and female hormone production is shut down or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.
    4. The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual (long lasting, permanent) within the human body
    5. Mineral, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down
    6. The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when “cooked” in a microwave ”oven”
    7. Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths (tumors) This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in the US.
    8. The prolonged eating of microwaved food causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.
    9. Continual eating of microwaved food causes immune deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations
    10. Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and loss of intelligence.

I do realize that the above article might be comparing raw food to microwaved food, therefore completely missing a group of food cooked by an oven in comparison. But still, how can cooking with intense radiation be good for you? I really don't think our body is meant to break down altered foods. And that's either being altered by radiation (microwaves) or genetically modified. Or things that are only edible after cooking, like wheat. I've never been a fan and have never owned one. I knew something was up. The entire concept of a microwave has always disturbed me. I'm a toaster oven kinda girl.

My friend has Hodgkins Lymphoma - not microwaving is one of the things the cancer center told her to stop doing.

Why would they specifically tell someone to do that though, who is sick? Because cooking food in the oven still cooks food. And when you eat raw, aren't you ingesting far more nutrients, which your body needs if you're sick? lol

Great. Now I'll feel guilty every time I use a microwave!

I was on a raw food diet for 3 months. I felt great. Had tons of energy, lost weight. I stopped because at the time I was living with my parents and it was a hassle to make all the food especially when they were still on the standard american diet. I'd love to do it again.

As far as the actual microwaves go, I've noticed that not having one and using the stove instead makes me eat healthier anyway so either way it's a win-win.

I will have to call her to get the exact details as I dont really remember - I do remember she said using plastic containers to reheat and glad/saran wrap and some of the prepackaging etc... was bad - but in general she said to avoid microwaving - idk

the list of things to stop doing was pretty long

they didnt tell her to stop cooking her food - just stop using the microwave and as someone said above use a toaster oven to reheat

Yeah, plastic containers contain and leech BPA ? chemicals that can cause health problems and cancer. I need to replace all of my plastic dishes with pyrex glass kind.

I just cook all of my food in the oven or on the stove. Microwaves have bothered me because of the OP's article reasons...and the food tastes soggy, wet and gross. I'd rather eat food thats cooked well in an hour...rather than eating soggy shit that was zapped for 3 minutes.

Funny, how doctors decide to push certain things on your when you're extremely ill/knocking on deaths door....but they don't urge us to make these changes in our lives while we're "healthy". More money for them, I guess.

That's why I avoid water bottles and plastic containers.

A toaster oven is just as good (if not better because it won't be soggy!), and cooks faster than a traditional oven.

I have just now made the newly educated decision to stop using microwaves! I'm going to invest in a toaster oven.

It makes since that this causes cancer due to radiation, I am done microwaving as well and ugh I always use water bottles! I need to get like a metal one or something to refill, and as someone else said it is funny that they dont tell us these things while were still healthy to avoid cancer...

Microwave Cooking and Nutrition - Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide
How microwaving works, and how it effects certain kinds of vegetables (and how this compares to other kinds of heating).

Microwave Dangers? - Harvard Medical School HealthBeat
About microwaving food in plastic containers.
Not saying we should automatically trust everything the FDA says/approves, but I thought it did a good job breaking down how the FDA regulate plastic food containers and what the look at/measure. Not debating whether or not it's sufficient or safe enough (I feel like it might not be but don't really consider myself educated enough on the subject to say for sure), but it was interesting info.

Micowave Oven: Effects on Food and Nutrients - Wikipedia
"Several studies have shown that if properly used, microwave cooking does not change the nutrient content of foods to a larger extent than conventional heating, and that there is a tendency towards greater retention of many micronutrients with microwaving, probably due to the shorter preparation time."

It seems like heating food in a microwave isn't really anymore harmful than heating it in other ways, besides the possibility of chemicals leeching into the food from containers.
I do agree that microwaving could contribute to less healthy eating habits (but not always).
We have a convection oven at my house (which I guess is like a toaster oven, but with a fan) and personally I prefer to use that because the food does come out a lot better.

I wouldn't worry about any of that, since none of that is scientifically sound. It's just based on peoples misunderstanding of science.

What about mobile phones which when you're using them, emit microwave radiation right beside your brain?

^ Yes, but the point of the article was questioning, and ultimately debunking, those results.

    From the article:

"First of all, water heated in a microwave oven is no different in "structure or energy" than water heated with a gas flame, on an electric stove, or over a wood fire: It's just water, plain and simple. More important, though, is the awareness that drawing valid scientific conclusions from experimentation involves conducting multiple trials under carefully controlled conditions, something not in evidence here. The extraneous factors that could have produced the exhibited results (i.e., one live plant and one dead plant) exhibited above are legion. For example:

    - One plant could have been compromised from the very beginning and would have died even if both plants were treated alike.
    - The container used to store or boil the microwaved water could have introduced a residual substance into the water that hindered plant growth.
    - The soil or bedding material used for one of the plants might have contained something (either originally or introduced later) that hindered plant growth.
    - The two containers of water might have been heated and/or cooled unequally, resulting in one plant's receiving warmer water than the other.
    - The plants might have been subject to differing environmental factors (e.g., light, heat) due to their placement, or affected differently by external factors (e.g., insects, pets).
    - Since the experiment was not conducted "blindly," the possibility that the experimenter in some way influenced the results cannot be ruled out.

Rather than simply speculate, though, we performed the same experiment in a more controlled manner. We started out with three each of three different types of plants: one member of each set was given water that had been boiled on a gas stove, water that had been boiled in a microwave oven, or water that had not been boiled at all. All the water used in the experiment came from the same source, the same vessel was used for boiling water both on the stove and in the microwave, and all three types of water were stored in identical containers. The water given to all of the plants was at room temperature. The plants were kept in a carefully controlled environment that protected them from our pets and equalized (as much as possible) their exposure to environmental factors and watered in the manner described above for a period of time identical to that of the original experiment.

As evidenced by the photos below (taken while the plants were briefly removed from the environment in which they were tended and placed in a setting better suited to photography), at the end of that time period all three plants in each set were fairly thriving. When Barbara asked me to indicate (blindly) which plant in each set I thought had fared the best, in two cases I selected plants that had been given microwave-boiled water, and in one case I selected a plant that had been given unboiled water:
    plantexp1.jpg
    plantexp2.jpg
    plantexp3.jpg"

It's hard to see in the pictures, but the order of the plants, from left to right, is microwaved water, unheated water, and boiled water.

I got a really cute glass water bottle from Target. It's wrapped in this kind of silicone sleeve so if you drop it it won't break or if it does it won't shatter.

I prefer glass because I feel like stainless steel tastes kind of funny.

Yes, glass bottles are the way to go. And stainless steel or wrought iron pans/cookware. Plastic particles leak off into the liquid and non-stick pans emit toxic nerve gas.

Well the fact that they can heat something so abnormally quick makes me think that, by default, they are bad for you. They literally cook with micro waves, which is radiation. At least with using an oven or toaster oven, you are basically cooking with fire, which is naturally occurring.

Microwaved food breaks down into stuff the body cannot use. Like processed food. The reasons why some people don't think microwaved food is bad, are the same reasons why people say processed food is not bad for you. Do people die from eating mostly processed foods? No, but it routinely affects their health, energy level, and over lifespan length. Probably the same with microwaving. But IMO, both really are bad for you.

Along with the 10 reasons to throw out your microwave article, was this:

"In 1991, there was a lawsuit in Oklahoma concerning the hospital use of a microwave oven to warm blood needed in a transfusion. The case involved a hip surgery patient, Norma Levitt, who died from a simple blood transfusion.

It seems the nurse had warmed the blood in a microwave oven. This tragedy makes it very apparent that there's much more to "heating" with microwaves than we've been led to believe. Blood for transfusions is routinely warmed, but not in microwave ovens. In the case of Mrs. Levitt, the microwaving altered the blood and it killed her.

It's very obvious that this form of microwave radiation "heating" does something to the substances it heats. It's also becoming quite apparent that people who process food in a microwave oven are also ingesting these "unknowns".

Dr. Hans Ulrich Hertel, who is now retired, worked as a food scientist for many years with one of the major Swiss food companies that do business on a global scale. A few years ago, he was fired from his job for questioning certain processing procedures that denatured the food.

In 1991, he and a Lausanne University professor published a research paper indicating that food cooked in microwave ovens could pose a greater risk to health than food cooked by conventional means.

An article also appeared in issue 19 of the Journal Franz Weber in which it was stated that the consumption of food cooked in microwave ovens had cancerous effects on the blood. The research paper itself followed the article. On the cover of the magazine there was a picture of the Grim Reaper holding a microwave oven in one of his hands.

Dr. Hertel was the first scientist to conceive and carry out a quality clinical study on the effects microwaved nutrients have on the blood and physiology of the human body.

His small but well controlled study showed the degenerative force produced in microwave ovens and the food processed in them. The scientific conclusion showed that microwave cooking changed the nutrients in the food; and, changes took place in the participants' blood that could cause deterioration in the human system.
    "

^ yeah, the snopes article mentions that in the last paragraph.

"As for the coda to the example quoted at the head of this page, there have been some cases in which the use of microwave-heated blood in medical procedures has been cited as causing serious problems, but not because microwave heating "corrupts the DNA." Rather, conventional microwave ovens can heat blood too quickly and/or too unevenly (resulting in hemolysis), so standard (and slower) blood warming procedures are generally preferred or mandated."

Default Re: 10 Reasons to Kill Your Microwave

Sierra just give it up! Anything microwaved is bad for you. No matter why. It is bad for you. "An article also appeared in issue 19 of the Journal Franz Weber in which it was stated that the CONSUMPTION OF FOOD COOKED in microwave ovens had cancerous effects on the blood."-is that not enough of proof for you? How many more studies do you need to read to realize this. Look, if you want to you can use the microwave all you want. I'm not going to. When someone with cancer is told not to use the microwave. That tells you not to use it unless you want to end up like them. So you do the thinking and take what you will from what the doctor told the cancer patient. Cause he sure didn't say to prevent cancer use your microwave oven more often and eat only processed food...lol
